All the courses damn well better be in good shape now lol

Played Cedar today and it’s in good shape but the greens still have a “softness” to them, they roll great though.

we played the Quarry Friday afternoon - condition was really good but boy i did not play well at all. I shot an 84 and couldn't strike my irons well enough. then Willow Springs Saturday morning. had some rain and waited it out for about 30mins before teeing off. drizzled off and on for a few more holes and it was just overcast the rest of the round. it was soggy and found myself just in the second cut most of the round. getting out of that wet thick stuff wasn't easy. shot an 80 but could have been worse. not my best golf but it was good to see different courses and they were great for the price.

Golfnow or teeoff you can find some deals. La Cantera, the palmer course being much more challenging than the resort (seperate clubhouses), is close and would be a good option. Cedar Creek is also near there and a great track for a muni if you want a cheaper round. Couple of fun holes teeing up high down to a fairway. Canyon springs is also near there and is good.

The Quarry might be close depending on where you are staying. It's the best outside TPC and La Cantera.

Silverhorn wasn't too bad either.

A lot of people will tell you to play Brackenridge. It's an old course and has a lot of history but that's about the end of it. I wasn't much of a fan but that's just my opinion.

played Brackenridge on Thu and la Cantera Palmer on saturday... think i got good deals on the supreme golf app

brackenridge was not bad, but the Palmer on la Cantera was awesome, those greens are fast, demanding from the tee, spectacular views.... very much enjoyed it!

Thanks for the heads up JBird, heading to Cedar for a quick 9 after work.

Anyone played Hyatt Hill country in the last few weeks? They punched their greens two weeks ago and I’m wondering how they are playing now.

Have not been to Hyatt in a while.

Here is a rundown of the courses I have played in the last week or so

Northern Hills: Perfect shape despite construction on an irrigation project. The vehicles and tools and holes are all off in the rough with little filled in trenches in fairways. Greens are fast and smooth. Currently offering a discount due to the project. Worth it imo.

Cedar Creek: continues to be in perfect shape, greens fast and firm. Fairways plush

Brackenridge Park: Sustained storm damage, they are still chopping up fallen trees but it does not affect play unless you spray. Greens are firmer than normal, and fast. 3 green was bumpy, all others great. Tee boxes in the shade have a top dressing of sand, but it does not affect play. Fairways are perfect.

Here is what I have "heard" through the grapevine:

Quarry is in good shape, Willow is in good shape, Palmer is in good shape. Riverside is decent shape.

Republic greens are in really bad shape. Mission Del Lago, Olmos Basin, and San Pedro Par 3 have both punched within the last 2 weeks.

Alamo City Golf Trail now offers a punching calendar which is super nice. http://alamocitygolftrail.com/irrigation_calendar/

Cheers.

Just played La Cantera Resort and while the tees and fairways were excellent the greens were the worst I’ve ever seen them have.

Front side was the worst, they were a brownish tint and were shaggy for La Cantera; back side was better but still not their usual.

> San Antonio aficionados, will be in town next week with my brother and father. Never been to SA. We will be there for a week(not specifically a golf trip), any must plays/courses in best condition? Thanks in advance.

I’m a big fan of both of the La Cantera courses. The resort plays a little easier and has some cool elevation changes and is right next to a theme park which is a little wild with the coasters and screams. Palmer is the better of the two and a great example of hill country golf.

Hyatt hill country golf club out west near sea world is a lot of bang for your buck with 3 separate nines all with their own personalities.

One of my favorite tracks that gets little fan fare and that is on the cheaper side is the republic. It’s on the south side of town and is good clean fun. Another good cheaper track is Olympic hills on the north east side of town. Also can’t go wrong with Brackenridge. Classic course.

There is a ton of great public golf in SA. Have at it!

Also, if y’all want to spend the dough can’t go wrong with the oaks at tpc.
