Ping G700? Irons in Spring

Recommended Posts

^^^^ it's vanity lofts. the head looks in shape/size as deep from front to back as G30/G types.

Yeah, I should have added that. The added volume (vs the current G400 models) brings the G400qx back up to essentially the size and look at address of the G/G30 series before.

to my eye, sitting at address, the back it's more G30 in shape.

Anyone seen info on new Ping irons called COLTS? Saw some listings of new clubs and there was nothing about G700 but there was an iron set called Colt.

Also looks like the new Vault 2.0 Putters will include, Dalehead, Piper, B60, ZB and Ketsch.

G400 Max looks like 10.5 degree is max loft.

Seems odd to release a G400 Max driver that it’s highest loft is 10.5. Would be aimed at high handicappers with a few of those looking for a higher loft in their driver. It must be very high launch

I agree. As a slower swinging 13.5* loft player I’d have loved a higher loft option and would have given Ping my money as I love the looks of the G400 drivers. The 12* SF Tec still flow too low for me.

Even if it plays like a 12* that is not enough loft for me.

Cobra Speedzone Xtreme 12*

Callaway Epic Flash 7w

Exotics Trilogy 5h / Xrail 5h -1"

Ping i200 6-GW

Cleveland CBX Full Face 56/60

Callaway Sure Out 64

Bettinardi BB29

Titleist ProV1x Yellow

Handicap: 9.2

If I had to guess "Colts" is something targeting towards the youth market...

As for as the G700 I hit a 7i this past week. It was a sample club with the Alta CB Regular flex. Easy to elivate, fast face, very forgiving, great finish, great shelf appeal, a little clicky at impact (hollow head) and personally through it looked better than the G400. Similar offset but the transition/flow from the hosel into the head seamed to be smoother and less angular. Offset looked to be about the same.

Is Ping betting that you'll play the (G700) in the short irons and the Crossover in the 3-5 irons? Why make a set that looks just like another product that your trying to sell.

Because 1) The Crossover is a driving iron designed for the iBlade/i200 crowd that snap hook the bejesus out of a hybrid and/or find hybrids far too spinney and lack versatility. 2) The Crossover only goes down to a 5i, so it's a weird transition from Crossover that is really long from heel to toe (more blade-like appearance) to go to a short and stubby GI iron.

Having said all of this, this G700 or G400 Max iron or whatever it is called REALLY has my attention now. I like the look of the P790 but find the G400 performs better for me. If I can get a best of both worlds thing going on, Ping is going to seriously hemorrhage my bank account.

Can't wait to see the G700's. For people that have hit them, do they look chunky'er from address thane the G400's? About the same amount of offset? Thanks!

IMO they look better. The flow from the hosel into the head looks cleaner. Offset may be the same but I think the improved cosmetics give it the appearance of less offset.

The new G700 will be $150 a club says they fly higher and further. But so does every club maker. Available Mid March Can't wait to see pics. I hope they have the same finish and thinner top-line like G400

I'm sorry to say if the G700 is an SGI, a thinner top line isn't likely.
