look, let me settle any recent speculations... does it look like a SGI iron? no. it looks considerably more like a current G400 than former GMax (now, this was just a 7 iron of it I handled a couple of weeks ago, longer irons might have more progressive offset).

 

there is no "foam" in the heads. the finish is exactly like G400. any comparison to TaylorMade P790 would be a reasonable one.

Is the CTP gone? Will the screw in the toe now be how they adjust swing weight? I think it looks great.

Oh My!! That pic was not what I was expecting after hearing it was a GMAX replacement.

 

The G400 driver was already on my radar, PING could be making a serious bid for my bag in 2018.

Not filled with anything. And I wouldn’t put it in the same sentence as 790. It is still a SGI iron. It’s much bigger than the 790. That being said they still look and perform great!

A much better looking Mactec nvg2 iron. That was a hollow body, spring face design and they were cannons, but I found them too fugly. Really have to get them in hand and see what they feel like. Any idea when they would hit stores?

Thanks for those. Other than the offset and a slightly wide sole, nothing about that screams GI to me.

 

Based on the pics of the hollow body, they have done a very good job of hiding the bulk on the back of the club. If this iron truly plays closer to GI than say the I200 then giddy up!!

CTP looks to be gone. They can add hot melt via the screw port though. I know they add hot melt to some of their drivers so why not these? One other thing, since the head is hollow they need some way for the heated air to escape while the face is attached, and the threaded hole accomplishes that task too.

Woooaaaa they are going to cop it from Ping. But they get a big thumbs up from me.

 

The cavity of the G700 is exactly the same as PXG, but not filled with anything. Nice looking club, very wide some but at address doesn’t look SGI at all. G400 max driver says available from Feb 8th

460cc. Weight is neutral. Supposed to launch 1.5* higher than stated loft.
