Ping G700? Irons in Spring

G700 reminds me of P790.... is this their answer to it? Hollow body...Not really an MB style design like the 790, but certainly not as gaudy and chunky as G400. IS it injected with foam???

Also a big fan of these stealth's on looks. I'd be game to try the 54 and 58 in ES. Just wish they'd make a 50 in a lower bounce option.

Not quite a P790. A bit bigger. This is a direct replacement for the G Max irons, with a good bit of offset. Look at the specs. Same offset as the current G400 irons. I've held these G700s. They look much smaller in photos than in hand.

These are not a direct replacement for the G Max irons as the G Max will still continue to be offered. This directly from my local Ping rep.

Maybe I should say it like this...the G700 is the successor to the G Max in terms of the most current SGI iron. PING never "discontinues" an existing line when they replace it. Typically takes 2 cycles or more for a model to be completely phased out. For example, the "G400" iron took the place of the "G" iron, but the "G" iron is still most definitely available, just at a lower price than the current G400 iron. But I can tell you that reps are telling accounts that the G700 is "replacing" the G Max as the most forgiving, most distance oriented iron in PING's lineup.

Really surprised at how much these look like the 790s. That can't be a coincidence. Ping typically doesn't pattern their clubs after other companies.

I could be wrong, but comparing the 790s (which I’ve seen in person) to the 700s (which I’ve seen in pictures), the Pings look to have significantly more offset, which is really what the Taylormades needed.

790's are likely to appear 2/3 the size of G700. No way these two could be mixed up for one another.

No one is mixing them up, but they are awfully similar

Toe screw and polished component on back? Ping has no speed foam to speak of. Looking at side by side of G400 the G700 are as long a blade as GMax. Really NOTHING awfully similar about these two.

You can’t be taken seriously when you say “nothing”

Ok. Now that you mention it the 10 mm of polised back component and that toe screw had me doing a double take for sure. Thanks for the input on this one and hopefully your analysis of "this looks like..." doesn't catch on here at WRX. Just imagine if nearly every club manufacturer has somewhat similar design cues from a competitor. I've demo'd the 790 at length and just couldn't get along with the compact shape but do like the low amount of offset. Having said that I've already ordered my G700 based on the specs of offset (identical to G400).

I will back Holy Moses up here in saying that they look similar in photographs, but in hand, I see and feel very little resemblance. The G700s photograph very well for as big and offset as they are.

This is how I somewhat imagined the G400 looking like when they started talking about them. G700, I200 and Iblade look so much cleaner than the G400...

Agree it looks much "cleaner" but I had a great conversation with a great Ping rep on the phone and agreed that the G400 and G700 are really going after much the same thing however some differences that may or may not be important Having owned 45 sets (6 Pings of all genre) I get where she is coming from. I would love to see the 700s but although the look will be far better I feel the function will be similar to the G10s,G20s,and G30s I have owned and the 400 closer to the i5s,i15s,and even S56 I have had. Really a function of point and shot and point and shoot with some playability. Both good just different.
