Course recommendation?

Hi,

Anyone with recemmendations to courses in Bali, Indonesia? I'm heading over there at October and would really like to play a round or 2. Not looking for anything really challenging, just a nice relaxing round of 18s to go along with a nice relaxing week long vacation by the South Indian Ocean.

Also, anything I would need to know about etiquette wise? Thanks.

Caddy tip is about $12 total ( 100.000 rupiah ), Offer them a drink and snack during the round ( it's a culture thing there if you know what i meant :tongue: )

 

Be nice w/ them, they'll give back more than you give them if you are treating them nice. That is the nature of Balinese!

This may sound stupid but do you have to be really good to play oversea? I usually shoot in the 90s and don't want to embarrass myself.

No golf recommendations, but Bali is awesome. Went there on honeymoon. Check out the temple at Ulawatu (?), but watch out for monkeys!

In Asia, sometimes golfers are required to take some proficiency test before they're allowed on the course. But at most resort courses they will let anyone play... haha.

 

In cases where a proficiency card is required, an official handicap card from a foreign governing body is usually allowed as a substitute (assuming your handicap is lower than their requirement).

 

For example, it's been a while since I looked it up, but at Hong Kong's public Kau Sai Chau North Course, you need to prove you have a handicap below 30 in order to play there on the weekend. In Singapore, I've seen the handicap limit be between 24-27, depending on the club.

 

So... if you want to play a course that is frequented by "locals", then my advice is to be prepared to produce an official handicap card. But if you go to a resort course that is mainly used by tourists, don't worry about it.

Have been to Bali many times and I'm sure you will like it.

 

With regards to the golf you should definately play Nirwana - it is managed by IMG and is by far the best condition course with great view over the ocean on several holes. The green fee is around USD 150, but it is worth the money an the transport time!!

 

As mentioned by Joe is it a good idea to treat the caddies nice - the are always smiling so it will anyway be hard not to.

 

No questions asked about your skills - the course is never full, but to ensure you do not have to wait I suggest you book a teetime.
