Cabot Cliff/Links Question

Headed to Cabot this Sep! First time for me and very pumped!

couple questions I have answered from the thread. One remains though, do you guys recommend flying with your sticks? I'd be headed there from Denver, and changing plans in Newark (to an air Canada flight) to Halifax. Or better experience using ship sticks?

thanks everybody!

In my opinion, Ship Sticks is a good option if....

  1. You don't mind being without your clubs for at least a week before and a week after your trip.
  2. Budget isn't a concern - International shipping runs anywhere from $300-500+ round trip with SS and that is before taxes/fees.

If either of those are a problem for you then it might be best to check them with the airline.

Thank you so much for the info! I found way more leeway with the connections if I flew Den to Toronto, then booked the Toronto to Halifax leg separate.

also looking at playing highlands (I know conditioning may not be great per Arg's thread) but one of the guys is a real sucker for a good design. I was looking at airbnbs out near highlands the first day we're there, and man that's way out there. I could rent a hut for like $80 a night  lol

The conditions at Highlands are perfectly fine, will they be Cabot? No. But its about 1/3-1/4 of the price of Cabot and their hands are tied due to the course being in a national park etc etc. The only really bad hole is #6 (which is an incredible par 5), because its right on the ocean and it floods. Its an unbelievable design and possibly the most "Canadiana" golf course possible, oceans-mountains-rivers. A must play at least once while you're out there IMO.

What's the general lead time needed to book at Cabot?  I went years ago (opening weekend for Cliffs) but my dad lobbied the idea of going back there as opposed to Bandon later this year.  I am used to the Bandon demand, which is endless.  Can you get lodging/golf at Cabot in say, September of this year or is it booking further out?

If it's only two of you getting tee times should be OK.

Lodging will be unlikely based on my recent experience. You might get lucky with the new cottages that are now available at Cliffs since they are more expensive.

I'm taking my boyfriend to Cabot for his 50th.

I booked everything from JFK to Sydney round trip, rental car, golf view room at the resort, tee times and caddies.

We are playing June 14th Cliffs/Nest, 15th Links/Cliffs, 16th Cliffs/Links.

I hope to get the girlfriend of the year award.

(I'm the one who really wanted to go to Cabot is just a minor detail)

AMAZING!!! That definitely Wins the girlfriend of the year award...unbelievable!!

Heading there next month. How were conditions?

It rained a lot and the courses aren’t firm yet.

But by July weather should be better and the courses should be in better conditions.

I would say late August to early September might be the best time to visit Cabot.

Played Cabot Cliffs last week while driving through.  I called 30 days in advance and didn't have any trouble getting the tee time I wanted.  Absolutely amazing course.  Views reminiscent of Pebble Beach at times.  Challenging, but fair, and the conditions were top notch.  They still had a bit of drainage issues with the recent rainfall, but nothing major.  Greens were rolling true and decently fast.

I loved it and will definitely be back for a golf focused trip.

I have played Cliffs and Links a few times each, the last being in May 2018. I am overdue to get back there. its very expensive now unfortunately for local east coast people like myself (PEI). $450 a round peak season is too much for one round. but will be looking at a twilight late season time possibly which is way more affordable. the courses are unreal, great golf, views and staff. cant wait to get back!!

Question for anyone out there that also had this issue. Hurricane came thru last week and cancelled the trip (course, flights, etc). Those not staying on site were not given a refund, but a credit to come back. Wondering if anyone else had this happen to their groups. $10k in funds held and not refunded due to Hurricane feels a little harsh. I understand not staying on property they have to save their financials but still..

Jeez...that's brutal. If there's any reason that's outside of your control, Hurricane should fall under that list!

Really bad look for them to not provide a refund there.

Well my fellow Golf nuts, I just played Cabot Cliffs today for my first time ever, and I was absolutely blown away!!

Obviously expectations were very high for a course ranked #1 in Canada, and some rank Top 5 in the World!

But somehow it still ended up being better than I expected!! Hands down the nicest course, and best Golfing experience I’ve ever had…and the views were absolutely breathtaking!!

I’m in LOVE, and this will be a trip I’ll look forward to once a year hopefully!! 😍😍

Here’s some of the many incredible pics…but it’s even better in person!

played it summer of 2023. From our Airbnb to the course was about 1.15 min drive

they are turning into a cash cow selling condos on the resort. No big clubhouse? surprised  , no place to sit and enjoy drinks after the round/meal . Build the clubhouse before the condos !

played the Cliffs. Spectacular course. It's not an easy walk , terrain is not flat haha! The signature 16th is such a tough tee-shot.

well worth it imo. Feel fortunate to have played such a beautiful course

If Bandon is remote, Cabot seems to me like outer space.

Depends on where you are coming from. Cabot is super easy for us east coasters.

Direct flight to Halifax, 3 hour drive from the airport to Cabot. If you fly direct into Sydney it's only a 2 hour drive.

I'm probably heading up to Halifax at the end of May for a week. Hoping I can get a few rounds in as a single, as I'll have total flexibility on times. Anyone else done this?

I'm going to give them a call this week to check on availability. Staying with friends outside of town, but I'm the only golfer.
