Quick google search reveals Tiger says he is finally pain free a lot. He said it this spring, and then got busted for being loaded on pain meds not long after. He said it at the 2014 Hero. He said it in 2012. He said it in Dubai before he withdrew last winter. And on and on.

Why do people believe this guy every time he says that this is the time?

its the linebacker in him... ;)

IF

If he can play, the USGA will give him special exemptions(s) for the us open.

again IF he can, 2018 is not his last US Open

The ability to physically play will have more bearing on his majors schedule than exempt status

Agree, Jack and Armor received multiple invites as did Irwin. If You're returns he'll get exemptions for at least the first couple years and then either he would be exempt or would retire. If he's healthy enough to play, and as others have said it may be a pretty big IF, he will do well and become exempt. I don't see him playing long of the hurts and the results are poor.

Whoever said Tiger should just play majors and WGCs......hate to break it to you

but Tiger won't be playing any WGCs until he gets his OWGR back up high enough.

Also, this (2018) will be the last year of his US Open exemption. After this year he'll have

to qualify like everyone else who hasn't won it in the past 10 years.

With all that said, I am pulling for him big time to win a lot and get back to #1.

You think Tiger won't get special exception whenever he wants?

I have no idea but I do think it would be frowned upon and I don't expect Tiger

would accept a free pass. Much better if he earns his way in...............for all......

He is obviously fully exempt for all other PGA Tour events and, of course, the

other 3 majors.

Just think of the threads that would blow up here if he got a free pass into one

of the WGCs, or even worse the, US Open in 2019.

I really don't think it will happen.

Jack Nicklaus got 8 special exemptions into the US Open. Arnold & Tom Watson got 5. Hale Irwin got 3. Trevino and Player each had 2. If Tiger is healthy and playing tour quality golf in 2019 I see no reason why the USGA would not give him one if he doesn't qualify some other way. Especially with it being at Pebble Beach.

True, but the image of some pointy headed twerp in a tweed blazer roaming the halls of Far Hills and getting off on the power trip of making Tiger go and play a regional qualifier with all the vanity caps is much much funnier. And frankly I wouldn't put it past them.

OTOH, the WGCs would have to make up whole new categories of exemptions. As it stands, you truly have to play your way into them.

Hopefully, he will qualify by then and it won't matter. I didn't know about those past

exemptions given to Jack and others. These are different times though. Certainly

there would be pressure to give him one and pressure on him to accept. It is about

the money after all but something in my gut tells me he would rather earn his way.

Come to think of it he's a past champion of many WGCs, isn't he? So maybe he

would get offered a past champion exemption into those? No, just call it the "Tiger

Exemption", lol.

Somehow this all sounds a little cheesy. I guess we'll see as time unfolds.

Correct on the WGCs. Unless he wins something Tiger won't be playing in them any time soon. I'd like to see him come back and play and play well if he is truly healthy. At this point despite being given the go ahead to practice full out nobody knows if he will actually even play. Likely even Tiger. Hyperbole on this is extra strong this time. Possibly an all time high in regards to his recent comebacks.

I'm 100% certain he can get into the opposite field events when the WGC's are being held. Definitely see him in the Barbasol Championship.

Retief Goosen got a special exemption to the US Open in 2016 and VJ even got one in 2010. Tiger would get one if needed. Much to the dismay of many here.

Not to my dismay. I guess I just didn't realize all these special exemptions are being

handed out. If anyone would be offered one it would certainly be Tiger, if needed.

It seems these names brought up are all past US Open champions. If this is the case

then why doesn't the USGA just allow all past champions to play up to a certain age

like the British Open?......or THE Open as some insist it be called.

My PC won't let me click on your link Darth. My bad on that but if your link says

the Barbasol is going away or moving I won't be surprised. I always thought

having a tour event in Bama in July is insane, lol.

I have no idea how the USGA operates. Not sure why VJ got an exemption in 2010 as he has never won a US Open. 2 PGAs and The Masters were his majors. If Tiger is healthy and playing well in 2019 and is not qualified I have no problem with him getting an exemption especially as he is a 3 time US Open Champion. Like everything time will tell. I'd rather he beat his demons, be a great dad to his children and find a good place in life. That's much more important than ever hitting another shot in competition.
