Tiger cleared for full golf activity

As well they should.

Let's call it the BIG CAT exemption.

I agree, and they should pair him with Phil Mickelson. It would be a fantastic opportunity for Tiger mix it back up with not only a formidable opponent but to see an honest, hardworking PGA pro like Phil interacting with his fans.

Whoever said Tiger should just play majors and WGCs......hate to break it to you

but Tiger won't be playing any WGCs until he gets his OWGR back up high enough.

Also, this (2018) will be the last year of his US Open exemption. After this year he'll have

to qualify like everyone else who hasn't won it in the past 10 years.

With all that said, I am pulling for him big time to win a lot and get back to #1.

You think Tiger won't get special exception whenever he wants?

I have no idea but I do think it would be frowned upon and I don't expect Tiger

would accept a free pass. Much better if he earns his way in...............for all......

He is obviously fully exempt for all other PGA Tour events and, of course, the

other 3 majors.

Just think of the threads that would blow up here if he got a free pass into one

of the WGCs, or even worse the, US Open in 2019.

I really don't think it will happen.

Where did I mention WGC's? What's wrong with an exemptions for past champions?

Well, since you asked.......................I think exemptions for past champions should

have a minimum world ranking attached to them. We have too many guys playing

in big events that don't even compete any more and they show up and play once

a year just because they can.

Lots and lots of one hit wonders win majors and get a lifetime exemption, essentially,

to play in them......except US Open winners who get a 10 year only exemption.

Nothing personal, but if a lot of these guys disappeared from playing, most wouldn't

even notice they're not there.

Palmer was about 75 at his last Masters and 65 or so at his last Open and US Open. Folks noticed when he quit playing.

I understand where you're coming from but who is drawing the line for who gets to keep playing?

Quick google search reveals Tiger says he is finally pain free a lot. He said it this spring, and then got busted for being loaded on pain meds not long after. He said it at the 2014 Hero. He said it in 2012. He said it in Dubai before he withdrew last winter. And on and on.

Why do people believe this guy every time he says that this is the time?

If you don't know anything about the back and how it acts, you might feel the need to ask that question.

And if you actually do know, then you wouldn't ask it at all..

Jack Nicklaus got 8 special exemptions into the US Open. Arnold & Tom Watson got 5. Hale Irwin got 3. Trevino and Player each had 2. If Tiger is healthy and playing tour quality golf in 2019 I see no reason why the USGA would not give him one if he doesn't qualify some other way. Especially with it being at Pebble Beach.

True, but the image of some pointy headed twerp in a tweed blazer roaming the halls of Far Hills and getting off on the power trip of making Tiger go and play a regional qualifier with all the vanity caps is much much funnier. And frankly I wouldn't put it past them.

OTOH, the WGCs would have to make up whole new categories of exemptions. As it stands, you truly have to play your way into them.

You have to play your way into WGC but they're easy to win because the fields are smaller. Much harder to win the John Deere.

I understand where you're coming from but who is drawing the line for who gets to keep playing?

I don't know........maybe whoever reaches 30 PGA Tour wins is exempt into all

the majors for life. That would pretty much limit it to superstars. Not too many

ever reach that number and I think, without looking it up, it would just be the

big names that everyone would still like to see.

Trevor Immelman will be playing at the Master's for the rest of his life and he is

still pretty young. He's tried to make a comeback; even played on the Web.com

but he is unable to qualify any longer for his PGA Tour card.

Rich Beem doesn't even play competitive golf any more. He works for Sky Sports

in the UK I think............but he will be teeing it up at the PGA Championship every

year anyway.

I could go on and on and it's nothing against these guys personally. I used to listen

to Rich Beem's radio show on PGA Tour radio. He's a great guy; funny too. Trevor's

brother Mark coaches a college golf team in Columbus, GA and does some live

radio work for PGA Tour radio. Trevor and Mark are both great guys.

LOL, the truth is no one cares about my opinion. I think things will continue on as they

have. I get that people want to see the superstars; even if they are well past their prime.

Golf is very different from other sports in that respect.

I don't think Tiger is all done yet. I think he can still play great and if he can play

enough in 2018 I have faith that he can get his ranking up high enough to qualify for

the US Open in 2019 and not need a special exemption.

Classic apologist.

Also if were talking smack about phil needing tips winning a us open maybe tiger could ask phil for tips about winning majors since phil has 2 since tigers last one?

I loved tiger but he was a dick with alot of fans. Ive seen it personally working several events including 2 presidents cups. Nobody would talk about it because he was winning. When he stopped winning people noticed. He doesnt have to be palmer or phil but a happy medium would work. I truly believe he doesnt know how to act around people because hes surrounded by yes men, very few friends on tour. Privately has nickname loneliest guy on tour. Anyhow not a deal breaker for me but ive seen enough of that over a span of 8 years to know its not a coincidence. Again i separate the player from the man so it doesnt taint my view of him and his accomplishements.

I think if you win more than one US Open or have achieved the Grand Slam in your career, you should be exempt for life for the US Open.

If your career wins gets you into the HoF and earns you lifetime exemptions on the Tour and in all the other Majors, assuming you won them at least once, why should the US Open be any different?

Didn't Tiger win all the Majors back to back and achieve 3 Grand Slams so far?

He was World Number one collectively for 683 weeks and consecutively for 281 weeks. Come on. That is an incredible achievement. I'm not even going to attempt to compare that with anyone or anything anyone in Golf has done. That is just simply amazing.

Yeah!

You win 4 Majors in a row and 3 GS

You shouldn't even have to make a cut!

Just show up on Saturday, no Sunday, in the final pairing.

And 1st tee mulligan.

Nuff said.

Happy Frrrrrriday ; )

LOL, oooooookay, there! Had a little too much caffeine this morning?

Maybe we should even get rid of the lifetime exemption on the PGA Tour just because you won a whole bunch of tournaments, too!!! YEAH!! That's the ticket!!! Q School after every season, too!! FOR SURE!!
