$-Taper is a non uncharge shaft. I believe Callaway stocks the standard finish on these. If you order the black $-Taper then it is considered an exotic upcharge shaft.

Gave in and ordered the x forged 5-PW with C Taper Lites. I’m a sucker for the x forged models.

Anyone compare the 2013 and 2018 X-Forged head to head?

2018, to me, is a slightly bigger head, great shape, as soft as 2013, 2018 is quite a bit more forgiving to me. I own the 2013 and comparing on trackman, 2018 was just easier, more forgiving, and a bit longer with better dispersion!!

The 2013 X-Forged is an all-time classic, a Roger Cleveland masterpiece. Anything comparable is very strong. I loved the look of the 2013 and may give it a slight edge over the new one, but they borh look pretty good.

I would rate the forgiveness on the 2013 model as not bad but not tremendous for a players iron, so good to hear of improvement there. A more forgiving, slightly improved 2013 is a winner, given there are pros still competing with the 2013s. I like the sole on the new ones and that is something I always pay attention to, far more than topline.

And I'd like to swing the MB in scoring irons. Interesting mid-sized sole on those makes them more forgiving than one might expect by looking at their muscleback design. Callaway is really off to another great year with these designs.

Definitely agree that the 2013 X Forged were hands down the best Player’s CB Callaway has EVER produced. I loved them but at the time they were a little to demanding for me...but GOD did they feel smoooooth and very soft. I (at that time) went with 800 Pros for more forgiveness but there was no similarities in feel at all. Fast Forward to the present and I currently game J15 CBS...and I can say with all certainty that the J15 is the best feeling, most forgiving CB on the Market. That said, this was BEFORE the release of the 2018 X Forged. I call this, if they have incorporated the smoothness, the incredibly soft feel, the aesthetics, and the sole of the 2013 and added a slightly larger clubhead and slightly increased the width of the sole to prevent digging....we are probably looking at a legend in the making, and the best all around CB Callaway (possibly even all manufacturers) has ever produced.

And my J15s are in for a quite the battle.

You must have missed the 2007's. Equal or superior in every category.

Nope, didn't miss them...They are fantastic as well but they didn't have the forgiveness the 2013 boasted. But Good Lord were they soft. ?

Tried the X-Forged today at the store (7 Iron). They felt great. Definitly not as soft as my MP-18's but, very very very good.

Only thing was me have a bad case of the "lefts". Saw there was a Project X shaft on it and for some reason, they just never have made it on any of my clubs.

I'm sure whoever grabs these will be beyond stoked.

Looked today and looks like Pw - 8 is being built but 5-7 is backordered 2 to 3 weeks for lefties.

100% sold on the MB after a monitor session yesterday. I'm not a Callaway guy at all, but these will be my first blades. No fitting head here, just the PX 6.0 demo. So I'll be ordering in Modus3 120 without ever hitting that specific combo.

Also considering a combo set with Apex Pro 16. Seems like a closer match than X Forged in terms of blade length. Any thoughts, or straight up comps?

Played 18 more holes today with my new '18 X-Forged. It was cold here in Dayton, OH but good to get out. The feel of these clubs, with the Modus3's, is incredible.......truly, they are. However, I have to say the sole grind is so noticeably better than anything in recent memory. I think the best 2 sets, with perfect sole grinds for a players club that I've ever hit, were the TM 300 Forged NS grind and the Adams CMB's. That said, these run close behind, and just flat out perform. I'm going indoors on Trackman on Wednesday just to get yardage comparisons against my old gamers in a controlled environment. Early indication from outside is they are very close to my '14 Apex Forged.......and anyone who knows those, know they were a club longer than most.

I went forward with grabbing a set of X's today. My local range had a 4-PW set setting in their box for a few days. This is my 4th set to to try this year after a 9 year break from the sport. I have enjoyed them all but I have not been able to find the flight I want. I tried MP25's with KBS tour stiff, 716 MB's with recon proto F4's, and most recently 716 AP2 with AMT stiff shafts. I could not keep any of them down in the wind. Having said that, I am closing in on 59 years old and the Project X 6.0 made me a little nervous reading the talk on the net about how harsh they are and how they play a little stiff. The shop owner however offered me a fair deal IMO ($899 plus tax) and I thought they were worth a shot at that.

You never know until you have multiple rounds on a set, but even then there are good days and bad with them all. However after 2 large buckets of balls I am for sure enjoying the honeymoon. I still had plenty of height BUT I was able to keep them down when I tried. I did not feel the shafts were harsh in any way. I am a believer that some players want to feel a smooth flow through the ball and some of us want to just smack it. I belong in the later group and the Project X 6.0 allows me to feel like I am hitting the ball if that makes any sense in place of putting a swing on it. The flight pattern was stronger than any other set I have tried this year and had just a little draw. My long iron distance was the longest I have had sense my return to the game.

3 things stood out today:

1. First day and I was able to repeat distances one after another.

2. This set stood up to both standing on them and half swings with equal aplomb.

3. Not one shot suffered any huge distance penalty even though my normal heel miss occurred several times.

Sorry to be so long but I feel like I have found what I have been looking for and it is exciting! We will see if the feeling last. Hopefully my hands and arms will stand up to this set. Having compound fractures in both arms 9 years ago adds a little uncertainty to the equation. But, I am thankful to be able to play at all!

Happy Thanksgiving to all!
