Weird front side yesterday...

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, i decided to play a quick nine last night and it was an odd one at the least.

When i got to the course i checked in and went straight to the tee....BAD IDEA. The greens had just been sanded( our greens crew seems to be very bad at sanding, very incosistent, alot of sand is some spots, not alot in others))..and it was so hard to judge the speed at first because the ball would not roll on the green but instead skip across somewhat.

This led to a miissed birdie put on #1 from about 7 feet, a missed 5 footer for par on #2, a three-jack from 15 feet after leave it short in the bunkeron the par 3 #3, a missed 2 1/2 footer for par on #4, parred #5, put it in the bunker on #6 and missed my 6 foot sandy.

So i'm standing on the seventh tee +5 through 6, with 6 fives in a row to start. The seventh is the toughest hole on the course, 420ish par 4 with a 260 carry over a creek. The wind was a bit strong so a decided to hit a soft driver left and short of the creek in the rough (rough not very thick). That left me 187 to the pin into the stiff wind in and from the left. I decided to pull out my 20* hybrid wich i carry about 205 in static conditions. Played a high draw over a pretty big oak tree about 90-100 yards in front of me. I struck it well and i swear i saw it drawing towards the center of the green so i stopped watching it when it was about 50 feet in the air, expecting to be about ten feet away pin high right. And that when my brother yelled ... "IT WENT IN", with is arms raised so at first i thought he had drooped his punch shot from under the same tree i went over as he has been playing for only about three years but has holed out from over 75 yards about 10 times including a hole in one on a 200 yard par 3 which is on the back side. But then he pointed to me but still i thought he had dropped his shot not mine as i hard him take a swing as i set up to my shot. But indeed it was sitting there in the bottom of the cup for my first hole out ever for over 70 yards out..AND I DIDNT EVEN SEE IT!!!

My home courses head pro was pretty impressed when told him as he has eagled all but three holes on the course one of them being #7.

After that i bogeyed the easy par 3 eigth as i almost toe shaked my 8 iron from 155 ( missed the grooves almost completely). Then birdied #9 as i made my first putt from outside 3 feet on the day and finished shooting 39.

Sorry for the rambling long read but i havent posted here for a while, so i said what the heck.

BTW, any wierd rounds, for you lately?

When I played in college I had the tendency sometimes to make a ton of birdies, but throw in some others occasionally. One meet I shot a smooth 75 with 9 birdies. Another time i went 40 30. Then another time we were playing a practice round where I wasn't striking it that well, then i got up on the 8th hole (213 yard par 3) and aced it, then on the very next hole (560 par 5) I knocked a hybrid to 15 ft and made the eagle to finish off a front side of 37. Before those two holes it was pretty ugly.

A couple weeks ago I went 31 - 46 for a 77!! I can't explain it, I just couldn't get my ball in play off the tee and for the life of me couldn't make a putt on the back (4 putted the 16th). Granted I did play a course that for whatever reason had a links/heathland style on the front and a traditional parkland style on the back. I think the links style courses fit my eye a lot better, it didn't hurt that the fescue hadn't grown in too thick this year so I could play any wayward tee shots out of them quite easily. I'm an 8 hdcp so if you'd told me I'd shoot 77 at the beginning of the day I'd be stoked, but the way it went down was just awful!!
