National Am Tournaments.

so I have several friends who are highly ranked national senior golfers, and several who are nationally ranked mid-am's. I don't ever pretend to be able to compete with any of these guys, it's not even close. So I play tournaments with my state association, or on one of the AM tours. I do well on the Am tours, and have won a good number of tournaments.

I was talking to one of my senior friends, and wanted to know what tournaments he was going to play this winter in Florida. He was telling me that a lot of these events have mid-am divisions. Although I have no shot of competing on this level, should I sign up, for the experience/golf courses. A lot of the mid-am players in these events make it to many Usga events.

So what would you do, play for the course and experience, and never being able to compete. Or just know you lane and stay away.

I think it's fun to compete against tough fields if you feel like you can make the top 20 or so.

Personally, I respond pretty well to getting my Word not allowed kicked, so I appreciate the challenge of competing against better players.

You absolutely sign up and give it a go.

Two reasons.

1. Playing at a higher level of competition will raise your game just from being around that level of player and watching how they go about doing things.

2. It's a massive buzz. I don't play in that level cause I"m not good enough to make those fields, but I play in some open and I can sneak my way into and love every minute of playing in them, even though my best golf is 15 shots away from ever contending.

I just love getting out there and playing the toughest course set ups and highest level events I'm allowed into.

If you belong in the field go ahead and enter. If you aren’t able to compete for second to last place by all means spare them the misery, but if you are able to hang with the middle of the field go ahead. You’ll never get better beating players you can already beat, you need to get your butt kicked to improve at a certain point.
