I played The Fort on Sunday, the course is starting to look stressed as usually is the case this time of year.

Greens and tee boxes? Or some burn out in the fairways and bunker areas? I’ve only played the Fort in late May so I’ve mostly dealt with soggy conditions while down there. Especially holes 4-6 at the Fort.

Tee boxes are okay, fairways are starting to burn out, but the bigger issue is the ball marks on the greens that don't heal and seem to get worse with the summer heat.

The greens at The Fort take a beating more than any other top tier course around here, as @"Indy Golfer" described. You can usually fix you ball mark and 5 others at least this time of year. Been that way the last 4 years that I've lived here.

Purgatory usually slides off a little bit towards the end of the year. We have had so little rain though recently I can see where they could've gone downhill a little earlier than usual.

I have played both the Fort and Purgatory in the past week. As others have said, neither is in top shape due to the heat and lack of rain we have had over the past month. That being said, we did get 1" or so yesterday.

In my opinion, aesthetically Purgatory is in slightly better shape, but from a playability perspective, the Fort was better in my opinion. The greens were definitely faster at the Fort when I played, but it also happened to be a day when they had US Mid Am qualifying in the morning, so they may have made an extra effort for that.

Either way you go, you'll find a playable golf course, it just won't be a lush as usual. Purgatory is almost taking on an Open Championship type look with brown on top of hills and in several low areas, whereas the Fort just has some areas that are a bit beat up. As I said, neither will affect the play of the course, but in my opinion the greens at Purgatory were just slow enough that it changed the way they played as the slopes got largely negated.

Also, if you've ever been to Purgatory, they've kept a lot more fescue this year than in the past several years, so the teeth of this course is back much more like it used to be in the 2000s. It is likely playing a couple strokes harder than the Fort as a result.

I'm here to plug the Golf School Of Indiana over at Prairie View.

A scratch golfer I know went over there recently for a putter fitting with Brad Fellers and worked with Matt Glenn through the rest of his bag.

His experience was rather shocking in how each instructor not only quickly diagnosed issues with his current hardware but was able to switch out and get to the proper heads and shafts for his swing in short order via Tracman and outdoor range.

I don't have any affiliation with the GSoI - I just wanted my Indiana brethren to know there was a very capable fitter available to us in Indy if needed.

Played a twilight round a Purgatory today. They seem to have lost the 13th green (the signature long par 5). They've tried to patch it, but it's a mess of mud and grass.

Rest of the course I've seen worse, but I've seen much better from them. Cutting trees down definitely helped growth on the 4th fairway. But it shows wear from the season throughout with some bare spots and lots of ball marks.

Shout out to cardinal hills golf course in Selma. In great shape for this time of the year, and outstanding customer service. This used to by home course when I lived in town and yesterday was my first time playing this season.

I was out at Purgatory earlier this month and this is absolutely true. The course was playing firm and fast and in areas where the native grasses were allowed to grow in it was visually intimidating in a way that I haven't seen in a long time. The grasses were so high and grown in that the only portion of the 18th fairway visible from the tee box was the very right edge of the divided fairway. It was actually difficult to pick a line for that tee shot.

The season is probably 2/3rds over up to this point, and this thread needs a much needed bump. How has everyone’s season been so far? What has been your favorite course you’ve played this season? Have you achieved your goals?

Played the Brickyard this summer for the first time. Father's day treat from my son. Played well. Loved it.

By the way, their clubhouse has some great bbq up at the bar.

Played 126 holes in 4 days a few weeks ago on our annual trip up to MI. Only played 18 since then. About time to scratch that itch.

Bob cat, glad you loved the brickyard! I also played the brickyard for the first time this year. It is an amazing course, and I highly recommend anyone that can get on to check it out. Played chariot run for the second time this season, and it was simply the best course in the state of Indiana I have played. It will be an annual trip for me going forward.

Kind of been slow golf for me last month or so. Royal Hylands, Tri County about the only place I've been lately. Did play Players Club few weeks ago..and didn't hit one ball OB..that's hard to do. Highlight of my year was going to Harbor Links with some yahoos. Would like to get back there one more time this year, should be cool in the fall with all the views. Played Walnut Creek with BC and Dr.O. That was fun and liked the course. Great weather for golf right now!

The Fort was ok yesterday, except a 4 hour round felt like a 6 hour round with all the waiting around and people hitting into us. Looks like they have some disease on some greens too.

Was trying to think where I have not played this year that I'd like to, and the only one that comes to mind is Rock Hollow. Not sure I can pull off a trip back to Harbor Links this year, but I'd do it with the group golf deal again if it pops up.

I can get out with a little notice over the next few weeks, as I'm still on daddy leave until 9/30. Let me know if anyone wants to get out. Afternoons or late mornings preferred.

YES to Rock Hollow. Do they ever come up on Group Golfer?

We need to make this happen. Weekday afternoon would be great, except Mondays.

They have outings on the 19th and 20th so I made a noon tee time for the 18th.

Let me know if that works for everyone. If not, give me alt date and time options.
