Welcome dmuck!

I haven't been downtown for a few months now.  Found any good restaurants/bars down there that are open at this time?

Greetings fellow chili dippers!

I am new to the area and even newer to this thread. Very glad to have stumbled across it as I am looking for people to play with this year.

I am downtown (for now), so it's pretty easy for me to get around.

I've only played a few courses around the area (Brickyard, The Fort, Prairie View). I'm excited to play new courses and meet some of you all this season.

Dan

Greetings. We have a nice little group of guys from here. You’ve played the right courses to start, but we can show you around to others too. When do you usually play - weekday/weekend/both?

I'm in the political science department down in Bloomington.

I managed to play the Pfau course a few times last year before moving up here, and I highly recommend it to everyone if they haven't played it yet.

LOL.... I'll send you a PM

Anyone for a Saturday morning round?

Since this post is a few days ago not sure if you're still looking for anyone @DrOldSchool, but I could play tomorrow morning just about anywhere.  For that matter, I can play just about any time any where this weekend!

Sorry man we got 4 tomorrow already. I will probably try to get out Monday afternoon or Thursday during the week next week if you/anyone can join.

Gauging interest in doing 36 at Purdue. Targeting Sunday April 25 or May 2. They stopped doing public bookings more than 7 days out but I thought if we had a larger group they might. Even if you can’t do 36 and would want to do 18 let me know.

They are back on groupgolfer.com this weekend at $49 per round. Their “all day” rate is $159 so getting 2 of those to play 36 is a good savings. Even one round that’s more than half price on the weekend if you got the group golf deal.

Thoughts on the two courses at Purdue? I know traditionally Kampen has been the better option but I’ve heard some really good things about Ackerman post redesign. The Indiana Mid Am was actually at Ackerman last year. Thought it was interesting they selected it over Kampen.

I picked up a couple rounds from Group Golfer for $50 a piece and I am trying to decide which course my group should play. Any comparisons to other local Indy courses? I know the majority of them fairly well.

The group golf deals for Purdue are easily one of the best deals in golf right now. Both courses are fantastic. Ackerman would stand on its own just fine even without Kampen across the street. Of the courses I've played in the state, Kampen is Top 3 while Ackerman is Top 10 (List is here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15syiDDZrjMDwjTz43T2VjYCr0v8lp3STXUBSpPJNTSM/edit?usp=sharing

Kampen is a big, modern course with lots of undulation and variety. Has the Dye hallmarks of elevated slopey greens that you need to hit to spots mores than the flag. Position matters throughout the course, and learning it has helped but I put up some ugly rounds there as well while learning the course. If you spray and miss the rough, the thick stuff is just a wedge out at best. But it is a fun challenge and I always look forward to it.

Ackerman is a more traditional parkland style course. Has many of the same Dye hallmarks, but while difficult it is not as tricked up as Kampen. if you play the tips there is a 330+ yard par 3, a 500+ par 4, and a 600+ par 5. Its a bit more straightforward in layout in a traditional way versus Kampen. But it can bite you as well if you spray. I was paired up there a couple years ago with a 15 year old girl prepping for a tournament the next day. I played pretty close to my A game... and beat her by 1 because she lost a ball late, she was beating me most of the way.

Both courses have always been in fantastic condition tee to green. Including the many sand traps. Solid practice facility as well. I posted above about doing 36 there because I like both courses so much, and since they are about 75 min away from me it makes sense to hit both while there. But if you pick one you can't really go wrong. Both are very different, but very fun and solid tracks.

I enjoy Ackerman myself, but I usually end up playing both when I drive up there.

I consider Ackerman to be most similar to the Fort and Prairie View and Kampen to be more like Trophy Club and the front 9 at Bear Slide.

As stated above, both are great courses and virtually always in tremendous condition.

Looking for others who are interested in playing Otter Creek sometime in the first part of May.  Have a pass to get 4 on for $25 each.  If interested let me know.  Don't have a certain day yet just wanted to see if anyone else was interested.

I'd be interested in playing on the 6th BUT that could change and PLEASE don't work around me.  Just throwing it out there.

Appreciate the invite.  Have played OC a number of times but it's been a few years.
