Brickyards daily rate is $150 now

Their website says it goes up to $175 on June 1. Wonder if it shows up on golf now again this season? Even if it does the hot deal would probably be $145 or something like that.

Trophy at $65 is the best full freight deal in town. It's funny to me at least it's $65 to ride or $60 to walk in peak times. Though I do understand why there.

Gonna play somewhere tomorrow (Monday 4/4) after 2. Looking at Bear Slide or somewhere like that. If anyone wants to get out message me. This weather needs to improve already

I’m hopeful this is the week the season finally breaks open. The second February that we’ve been having since mid March has been lame.

I’ve played both of them lots of times. Neither this year yet though.

hickory stick is awesome. One of my favorite tracks in town. Lord of fun undulations on the greens. Little collection areas around the greens if you miss. Pretty forgiving fairways. It’s a playable course.

southern dunes is a great layout. Maintenance is always lacking though. Spring is the best time of the year to play it. Links style course with lots or water on it.

Nothing wrong with either but they’re definitely not worth going out of your way to play. I suggest hickory stick over Southern Dunes. I’m sure we could suggest a few better courses if you’re open to it.

Hickory Stick is wide open with man made mounding. A lot of raised greens with runoff areas and short grass. Course is flat and treeless.

Southern dunes is a tale of 2 9s. The back (use to be the front) has a nice variety of holes. 3 par 4, 5s, and 3s. The front I find pretty bland. It may not matter but the back 9 really isn’t an enjoyable walk. One hole in particular is a 500+ yard walk around a lake.

I have played ALMOST everything around Indy, so I am trying to play some new courses. The IU course is on my radar as well, but I'll wait until the weather gets better. Will Dye's Walk CC allow outside play?

Traditionally they don’t allow outside play but it’s definitely worth a shot. They’re doing well right now, like most places, but they may let you on. Through the week would be your best bet.

Have you played Buffer Park? It’s a 9 hole track but it’s very good and worth going around twice. It’s in an odd area and their clientele doesn’t always look like the stereotypical golfer but the course is definitely worth a play. The property is an old landfill and with the exception of the first hole it’s nice and secluded. Makes you totally forget your in a city. Given 10 rounds I’m playing 6 at Buffer, 2 at Hickory Stick and 2 at Southern Dunes.

Would agree with everything said above. SD has potential as a Gary Player design, but the conditions there are always subpar at best. Hickory Stick is fun, only knock on it is pace of play can be slow at times - it starts with 3 short par 4's, then a 3, then a tough par 4 all smashed together. Buffer is the 2nd best public course inside 465 (Brickyard).

Played the Pfau course when it first opened during covid... didn't have the heather grown up yet.  Course has gotta be insanely difficult with the heather and how windy it is this 'spring'.

I believe Dye's walk only allows outside play with a member.

first post here.. but been lurking for a bit.

Surprised you never played it! Definitely heading down there for 36 one day this summer and we can drag you along if we have to. You can carpool with me, save you the extra $500 in gas or whatever it costs from up your way to get there.

I'll definitely check out Buffer this summer. I did play Southern Dunes (nothing to write home about) and Hickory Stick (slow play big time).

anyone know of a decent instructor here on the southside of Indianapolis? most of the courses are less nice than the northside courses (that's the political way to say it right?) so I have a bad feeling/stereotype about the instructors. I need a couple lessons to point me towards getting rid of some poor tendencies.  Any direction, feedback, reviews are appreciated!

I don't think your playing the right courses if you can't find anything decent on the southside of town to play.

As far as instructors go I've heard the guy at Orchard at 135/Fairview is supposed to be pretty good. If I was gonna get lessons (which I should) I'd start there. Can't remember his name though.

Don't know the guy at Orchard but try Eric Huther at Sarah Shank.  Good dude and talented player.  Tell him Bobcat sent you.

I’m not sure how they do lessons without a driving range but Eric Hunter (shank) and Franklin Christ (pleasant run) are both very knowledge about the golf swing and would be great with lessons.

Sure, the majority of Public courses on the north side are nicer, and vastly more expensive, but try not to equate niceness of course with capabilities of the instructor. From my experience, there isn’t a correlation.

Rumor is Franklin is no longer at Pleasant Run. Someone reading this may be able to confirm. 😀

And there are some good courses on the south side. What about Legends, they seem to have decent facilities, would think they would be good for lessons? But I honestly have no idea.

Franklin Crist is now at Fort Wayne CC and I believe you're referring to the afore mentioned Eric Huther at Sarah Shank, not Eric Hunter.

Thanks y’all. Will do some research and make some calls.

southside just has a huge mix of average courses when you think about it.

Smock - decent, but the slowest place to play most days

valle vista - occasionally slow, conditions go up and down like the stock market

hickory - roller coaster, sometimes it’s great other times it’s conditions are miserable

buffer park - usually solid condition but only 9 holes leads to huge wait so the back

legends - surprisingly nice this year.  Figured their $200 special a couple years ago would have lead to this places demise. But I thought wrong

I know I’m missing some. I play most of those somewhat often.. would just be nice to have a well manicured place with a nice range, nice range balls that aren’t trash to be able to pop over to for the occasional nice round.
with that said..l walked nine at Dakota landing this morning. Soooo 🤣
