Tom I think that brings up a great discussion point. What do you think is the worst hole around? This could go one of two way...worst design or yours nemesis hole (let’s say one that hard on paper but always gets the best of you)

Number 5 at Riverside is a terrible hole, especially since they changed it from a par 5 to a par 4 several years ago. It’s almost impossible to hit a tee shot inside 180 from the green. Even with a perfect fade. Then the green is tucked against dense grass where you easily lose a ball and is elevated and sloped. Plus there is a nice cesspool pond short and right if you’re too aggressive and hit a poor second.

Not to mention it always floods and is in horrible condition.

Glad I don’t play there anymore, but it stands out in my mind as awful.

I don’t mind 16 at Grey Eagle, but can see it may be a little too long to the corner for some. It reminds me of similar holes at the Broadmoor West in Colorado and also one at Old Oakland. Requires solid distance control off the tee to leave the right angle in.

I have a strong distaste for L shaped 90-degree holes. So if you're asking me worst design around not only is 16 at Gray Eagle on that list, but so is 18 at Stony Creek. Can't hit it more than 240 or less than 220 off the tee, and it's always soaked down there in the creek bed so no bounce/roll. Then it's straight uphill to a huge green. It's not an overly difficult hole, I just don't like it. 18 at Killbuck near Anderson is another disappointing L shaped finish.

I think the 11 hole at bearslide is a really bad design. I hate the tee shot and being a long iron or hybrid off the tee. You get it too far right and you’ve got no shot onto a a blind green that is narrow with no where to miss especially left with the creek. I’d say it’s the worst designed hole I can think of.

I wanted to bump this and see how many players we had interested for Friday 6/15 afternoon round? I want to call and make a tee time, but need a soft head count.

I am still shooting for eagle creek, but they can’t make tee times until 2 weeks in advance. I’ll get a tee time as close to 1 pm as possible.

New to the group but I am hoping to play this Sunday the 20th. I live in Fishers so looking for something on the northeast side mid to late morning. Saturday may also be an option but we are going to Chris Rock Friday night, so if I play Saturday I may need a volunteer to tee up my ball.

I play decent at times but I don't take the game too seriously, index ranges from 10.0-12.5.

Welcome aboard... I'm in Noblesville and we have a pretty relaxed group of regulars that play when we can. I'll shoot you a PM about this weekend, a couple of us are talking about playing.

I was talking with some of the regular group today, and I would like to come up with a "chili dipper top 10". This would be the best 10 courses in the greater Indianapolis area that we can as a group come up with. I think this would be an awesome resource for guy new to the area or those looking to make the drive to Indy to play. I hadn't played but two of the amazing courses in the area prior to moving down here a little over a year ago. We have decided to base it on criteria that would be similar to golf adviser, so I am wanting the 10 best in the naptown region with all the criteria like layout, clubhouse, range, food and beverage, customer service, challenge, aesthetics, value etc. I think this would be really neat to discuss and debate upon the guys that have experience playing all of the data. We can then compile all the data and opinions to make one chili dipper top 10 mother list.

I have thought about this at great length and these would be my top 10:

1. Prairie View

2. The Fort

3. Royal Hylands

4. Trophy Club

5. Bear Slide

6. Purgatory

7. Eagle Creek Sycamore

8. GCI

9. Sarah Shank

10. Brickyard (I haven't played it yet, but I know it has to be on the list somewhere).

Please feel free to share and debate this awesome topic. I think we can formulate an amazing master list here.

Sounds good, I will be there. If you want more people to come you might post it on one of the Facebook groups and see if any of them want to join. I played with a few of them this past weekend.

I could look into that, but I am not wanting to have a true outing, more of a get together. It’s going to be friendly. Nothing serious and no major gambling

I played Prairie View on Sunday. I don’t know if they are gearing up for the Indiana Open or what, but the greens were the best I’ve seen them in years. Go check it out.

Got a new candidate for the toughest hole discussion.... not really in the Indy vicinity but I'll throw it out there: 14 at Club Run. Probably the tightest short par 5 I've ever played. Their description says it's 2 bulldozer widths wide, and there was nowhere to miss with not much rough before you're in mature trees/woods lining it. Add to that a pond left/short of a tiny green. And the left side was blocked by trees on the approach as well. Put up a nice snowman on it today, including a backwards shot after being stymied off the tee and then one in the pond. Would love to meet someone who routine-birdies it.

Had the privilege to play the Kampen course at Purdue yesterday, and I cannot recommend it enough to play it! Wonderful track that is in immaculate shape. Dye really put his heart and genius into this one. I wouldn’t have to go out on any sort of limb to say it was the best course I’ve played in Indiana to date.

Completely agree with this. If you play it, pick the right tee box and don’t miss the fairway.

I’m currently hiding from a thunderstorm on Ackerman and it’s easily top 8-10 in the state too. Well worth a day trip or stop for anyone traveling by the Purdue/Lafayette area.

I need to play Kampen this Fall after I get the game tuned a lil better. No doubt I'll need to play it 2-3 times before I can play it decently.

Can' wait for trophy club next Friday. Never played it.

Love the two Purdue courses. Need to get back up there this year, and take advantage of the Purdue Golf Card I get with my season football tickets.

Coyote Crossing in West Lafayette is another gem just 10 minutes from the Purdue courses. It is just as good as Ackerman IMO
