PGA Jr League

Probably market dependent. My son was supposed to have his first match yesterday but it looks like courses are going to be closed through mid May.

I’m new to the board but I read through the entire thread. My kids are young enough that the social aspect of Junior League is their favorite part of it. It helps that we live on the course and they’re friends with most of the kids on the team anyway. However, I do have a question about the regional teams. Do the teams that make it to nationals ever have girls on them? It seems as though length is very important the further you advance. My daughter is becoming a pretty good player and wants to make the all star team one day but she will never be as long as boys her age.

At what age can kids play in PGA jr league?

As soon as you're comfortable that they can play on their own and keep up with pace of play.

My son made it to all the all star team as a 9 yo. Overall, the team was pretty young and They actually did pretty well and will hopefully advance further this year.

Ok thanks, I’ll wait a year or two then. He’s still a bit young to be taking care of himself. Plus his driver distance sucks lol.

June 1st earliest start date and they cancelled the 2020 postseason. I wonder how many of the 'Built for Postseason' teams just don't play at all.

I’m betting a bunch of kids don’t play this year with no shot at all stars. That is the only reason the good players sign up anyway. Going to be interesting to watch how it unfolds this year.

The good players won't play at all. There is really no reason for them to. You and I both know that.

My two oldest daughters made all-stars last year. My oldest aged out, but my middle has one more year. I asked her if she wanted to play even with no post-season and she said yes. She wanted to finish her last year.

Fast forward to this weekend where our club pro said that PGA was suggesting that Jr League be interclub play only, and no league play. Again, just suggesting, not requiring. If that is what it comes to, my middle daughter has decided she would not play.

This was a great read. It’s interesting how experiences have varied widely from team to team.

My son has played two seasons with Jr League and he loves it. He plays USKG tournaments and there’s some pressure when he does because it’s just him out there alone.

Jr League is much more relaxed and fun as he’s become friendly with all his teammates. He’s the youngest on the team by far and the older kids get a kick out of this little kid playing alongside them. We like his coach very much so it’s a nice environment.

Last year my son got to play in the playoffs and they advanced to Regionals. He really enjoyed the amped up competition and the opposing teams parents were all very gracious and supportive of all players.

Overall, it’s been very positive.

PGA Junior league is a great concept and we have had a lot of fun in our local league - the older kids get to practice leadership and the younger kids get to learn the game - luckily the league we played in just had a mix of local kids (no stacking of a team) so the league played how it was meant to be played - the stacking of teams is ridiculous and shows how adults ruin everything. My daughter made it on her all star team and we went to the playoffs and we looked like the bad news bears before they got good - the majority of the teams were stacked with kids who were 6 feet tall and looked like they were 21
