Club weight... swing and overall (heft)

As there are numerous threads on the topic of club weight where both swing and overall weight are covered, anyone aware of the "best" thread on the topic, which can hopefully be pinned and referenced? It just seems to be a topic that comes up often, where swing weight is given center stage without regard to the importance of heft.

Within this "best" thread, suggest it should cover the effect of grip weight.

Suggestions on how to get this done?

I'm unaware of one "best" thread.

Both total weight and swingweight affect the feeling of "heft" of a club. Between the two I'd say total weight is far more important.

Grip weight affects feel but don't use different grip weights to chase swingweight numbers. That's not the right approach.

The best way to measure "heft" is with an MOI machine. Unfortunately, it can be hard for many to find someone who has one

From what little I understand two drivers can both be a D2 but dramatically different total weights?

Correct. Also, 2 clubs can have the exact same total weight and different sw's.

Different golfers have different sensitivites to each, and "chasing" a specific sw (which we see as a recurring theme, especially with grip changes) may not be the best solution. Hence the request for a pinned thread to clearly and simply explain the topic.

I'm not sure anyone would want to take on such a topic as it can turn toxic quickly. There are many issues with both SW, MOI, MBI, etc and how they are applied...and at the end of the day they are only complimentary fitting specifications to properly fit clubs.

Thanks, and yes, I am familure with that thread, and use it when needed.

That thread could be used for this, but seems more a great resource for tremendous detail about sw, as compared to an overall topic about weights I was hoping existed but have not found.

Understood and certain agree.

Looking for more of a practical definition of terms, and some guidance (where as you suggest, the guidance could become quite opinionated!).

Yes, have read through numerous times in the past, and lots of great info.

Again, trying to be able to quickly help those simply "chasing" swing weight with info that helps them see it may not be (and is most likely not) that simple.

Still thinking a simple, high level "executive summary" to point to would be a great start before going into detail, but maybe that's just me.

Swingweight vs. total weight is but one topic that could use a pinned thread. I can think of about 10 more common topics that are in greater need though. I say this in response to repeat topics that never seem to go away (people don't search). Such as "how to raw my wedge", or "how does bounce change when a club is bent", etc.

I nominate you Scottie68 to put an update into that pinned thread about swingweight and discuss how "heft" is affected by total weight and how swingweight is not the end all be all. That will get the info covered within an already pinned thread.

Yes, perhaps other topics make sense to create and pin as well.

As far as creating a post within a an existing pinned thread, which has 400 other posts already (where many touch on this) is not going to be helpful in my opinion. I'll try to find some time to put something together, that if found useful, could be used.
