Best Clubcorp Courses Tour! Got a hall pass ;)

Recommended Posts

Got a go ahead from the wife to go wherever I want for two weeks. So I figured I might take advantage of my clubcorp membership. I'm in San Diego so I've done everything within 800 miles of here. Looking to hear your suggestions and hopefully string together a few spots with multiple courses. Don't want to spend a ton of time flying around. Lets hear it!!!! And I want to do firestone but nothing else around it to justify.

I was going to say I really like the courses in Palm Springs, but that be because we don't have many courses like that here.

My 2 suggestions would be DFW/Houston, or Miami/Naples.

I live in Houston and go often to Dallas to play with friends. Between the 11 here in Houston and 10 or so in the DFW area there are plenty of courses to play and never leave a clubcorp course. PM if you want more details on the specific courses.

I have a similar trip planned for Miami and Naples. It was hard to pass up PGA National and Tiburon but playing others outside clubcorp so it is a bit more.

Thanks for the reply, I was thinking about DFW, but also Atlanta as I could play for about a month with a new course each day.

Any other suggestions that you have hit up?

Yeah I want to take advantage of the "in-network" courses and do other later. Not sure if I will have my membership forever.

I'm the same way about my membership. I think DFW has better courses than Houston, but then again, I like something other than what I'm used to. Las Colinas (LPGA tounrament host), Gleneagles, Stonebriar, Stonebridge, the clubs of prestonwood the hills are all stellar tracks. The dye course at Stonebridge is one of the harder course I've played. Trophy Club is pretty nice as well. For Houston, Woodlands country club (Senior tour stop), golf trails of the woodlands, Cubs of Kingwood including deerwood (tin cup filmed here), Lake windcrest and Magnolia Creek (personal favorite) are all great tracks as well. My home course is the Club at Falcon point. Pretty much target golf, von Hagge design with plenty of water.

Tiburon is no longer affiliated with ClubCorp.

Great, I'll have to check those out! I really like fast greens and proper conditioned fairways. That can over rule layout a lot of the times. if you head to DFW maybe we can play

If you come through DFW, play Timarron before your play Trophy Club - they are a couple miles from each other and Timarron is a far better design than the 2 at Trophy Club and generally in much better condition.

Ok so if you only had 4 tee times would you do las colinas, stonebriar(which course), gleneagles(which course) and stonebridge? or double up on stonebriar?

Personally I'm not a fan of Las Colinas, it's an OK course with some holes that make you scratch your head. Also due to some elevation changes on a few holes you can hit a perfectly struck tee shot only to find yourself behind a tree in the left or right rough, just screwy design.

Timarron?

Solid course, good conditions. Front play easier then the back, in some ways a tale of 2 9's. One of the few courses designed by Bryon Nelson and his estate regularly reviews it for adherence to his design otherwise they'll pull his name off of it.

JL so right now I got Gleneagle Kings, Timarron, Stonebriar Fazio, and stonebridge Dye. What do you guys think?

  • 3 weeks later...

To add another track in the mix, I think Hackberry is a great course if you have time to play it. I definitely like it more than Las Colinas.

Agreed, I know I'm in the minority but I just don't see the allure of Las Colinas, The Dallas area has muni's that are far better then it. Hackberry is a challenge, new greens will make it even better.
