Best shot of 2017 ??hmmmmm.

I guess it was probably a bunker shot. Or more aptly a " non bunker shot ".

Was in a Cga proAm later in the summer. Hit tee ball on par 3 and pushed it wide right to where I thought it was in a sand trap.

Get up to the ball and it's laying on a mounded lip at the back of the bunker. One of those where sand has spilled out over the years and the grass has grown over. Leaving a lip that's built up but has grass on top. Very softish lie. I had around 20 yards to the pin on the far side of the green. I knew all I could do was play a shallow explosion shot and try to spin it. Just hold on and slide the club head under the ball without releasing the toe. Was with a 54 degree sm6 copper vokey. I clipped it perfectly and flew it to within 14 inches of the left side of the cup and it spun hard right and clanked off the pin. Stayed out. But I tapped In with the same wedge for par.

Playing partner looks at other pro and says " what kind of Word not allowed can't hit the green from. 150 out but can hit that shot "? I smiled and said " this jolly old Word not allowed"... lol. True story so help me ..

Thanks for the opportunity. Hope I win. That will match my bag perfectly !!

Best shot just happened to follow a terrible drive on a somewhat tough par 4. 240ish to the pin in the rough surrounded by trees, but with a good lie. Hit a 5 iron super low to stay under the branches with a 30 yard draw. Ended up 15 yards short of the green, middle of the fairway! Up and down for par!

And I’ve never owned matching headcovers!

Sweet headcovers!

I had a few good ones including my 4th HIO but that wasn’t the shot of the year. 500 yard opening hole at my home club, 220 down wind to the pin after a good drive. Hit 6 iron, landed on the front fringe, told my league partner it was going in. Watched it curl right for what felt like forever before it dissapeared and we all started screaming in the fairway. Had a bunch of witnesses with it being pre 9 before league. Tied my brothers low score on that hole, he made a very similar albatross on Thanksgiving Day the year before.

My best/favorite shot was reaching the Par5 18th at Kapalua in two shots, the shot was the driver, ok it was downwind and downhill but it was 392y...would love those covers, they look amazing!!!

I was fortunate enough to play Kapalua several times this year while out in Hawaii. I loved that whole course! 17 and 18 are a blast! How did you do on 17? The first time I played it I blasted 3 wood into the junk at the end of the fairway, I thought I had plenty of room, but the ball just keeps rolling/bouncing.

I went driver hybrid on the green on 18 with some wind at my back, but I don't think the tips were in the same spot the pros were hitting from. Such a fun finishing hole.

I played it many times as well, I was stationed in Hawaii twice, 3 years the first time and 6 the next...17 was very tricky depending on the wind, I want to say that I made bogey more than I made par, you are correct the ball just keeps rolling and you can get in the crap...I've hit everything from driver to 4 iron on that tee, it is challenging but, hey, you are in Hawaii who cares!!!!...lol

That sounds like a nice place to be stationed!

You are correct regarding wind on 17. One of the times I played it I hit hybrid and it faded right. Distance was what I expected, but fading it instead of the expected draw I had planned added a ton of distance! Second shot can be difficult as well. One day I hit a near perfect shot and instead of being pin high I was on the back fringe. Another time I thought I was over the green, I ended up short of it. You are exactly right though, the course was so beautiful I didn't care much about score (well, I didn't care as much as I usually would)

My Best Golf Shot of 2017:

My wife and I were invited to play in a charity event at Winged Foot earlier this summer. All day I was wrapped up more in the fact that I was playing the famed West Course at Winged Foot rather than just another round of golf. After 17 disappointing holes, there were some good, there were some bad. I mostly struggled with my putting, which was not necessarily a result of the greens but rather with my alignment, posture and aim.

Our final hole of the day was the Par 3 10, playing at approximately 190 yards, had about a 15 - 20 minute wait before we were able to play the hole. After the other 3 members of our group played the hole, I got up and hit an absolutely pure and beautiful 6 iron into the green. It landed and stuck approximately 2 feet from the hole netting me the closest to the pin for the tournament. It was the perfect end to an absolutely perfect setting and round of golf. Yes, I made that Putt :-p

Yeah it was my last "real" assignment, from there I was sent to the Pentagon (to retire) since I have a home here in VA...I really enjoyed Hawaii, I played, if not all, almost every course on the islands...plus I had the opportunity to caddy at the Sony Open, Lotte Championship and Champions Tour...

I think I will have to go with a shot from my most recent round. I hit a decent drive, a bit more fade than I wanted and ended up on the right side of the fairway with 85 yards left to the pin over a large bunker. Pin was middle left of a large tiered green, sloping back to front. I hit a knockdown 56* Mizuno MP-T4. Flighted it a bit low and it landed about 6 feet right and 2 feet long of the pin. Took one hop left and trickled back into the cup. The wedge(s) are pretty new for me, I think this was the third round playing them and I am getting great spin and distance control with the 56* in particular. A nice eagle that helped offset the double bogey I started with.

My best shot was during the Houston City Amateur. I was 200 yards out on a par 5 during an up to that point terrible round. I pulled 5 iron from and uneven lie. It landed just short of the green and bounced up and rolled into the hole for my first double eagle ever. The best part was one of the rules officials was on the hole and watching and saw it go in and drove up to make sure, then came back and celebrated with me.

Was playing in the Alberta Open practice round here in Canada, having a mediocre round. Really just struggling to get much going. Sprayed a tee shot into the trees on a 450 ish yard par 4 and hacked out twice (pretty dense trees). Ended up holing the next shot from about 150 out. Was just a par, no big deal, however was hilarious as ongoing people were walking around watching and they thought it was a hole out eagle and were all clapping in enjoyment. My little secret and just rolled with it :)

had two this year.

2-man best ball tournament from earlier in the year and holed it out from the bunker for an eagle (it was either the bunker for eagle or a long chip over water - we both had the yips that day. i'm a pretty decent bunker player). I opened my 60* SM6 since it was a close pin and another bunker on the other side waiting if i got too thin. aimed a little left of it and flopped it perfect which took 2 bounces and rolled about half a foot and in the cup.

another just this past weekend on a short par 3 but with the a sideways wind going with my fade it was hard for me to control my shot on this specific par 3. hit my smooth 9i from 135yrds (bunkers on the front) and it sailed way left to where to wind was taking it. ended up with a 40yrd chip pin high into the wind but the pin was close to the right edge close to me so was aiming for a flop with my 56* to the middle. ended up hitting it right at the pin (back right) and took one small bounce and into the cup to save birdie. went on to shoot 1 over for the day.

Havent played much this year, but it was a par 3, about 160 yards. Took 8 iron and hit an absolutely towering high cut shot. Landed about a foot away from the hole and then spun back about another foot. Drained the putt for biridie.

Best alternative I've seen yet to the current stock Titleist headcovers!

My best shot this year was on the 13th hole a the Pete Dye Challenge course at the Mission Hills CC. The hole was cut at the crest of a mound so it was very difficult putt, let alone get close with an approach shot.

After a good drive, I hit a low-flighted punch shot into the wind using a 716CB PW (the GPS incorrectly says SW). The shot nearly holed out. The ball carried 92yds, took one hop, and stopped at the edge of the hole. Tap-in birdie.

I picked this shot as the best of the year is because I haven't had another yet with as much control, precision, or feel.

Best shot was on a par three in a business outing. The President of the hosting company was playing the hole all day as a "beat the pro" hole. He tells me the yardage (142 IIRC), and I say, "that's exactly how far this goes (holding my PW)". Admittedly, I caught it a little thin, but sure enough it landed soft and slowly rolled, right to left, into the hole. First ever hole-in-one.

my best golf shot in the most recent memory was a 40 feet par putt from end to end greenside.

370ish yard Par 4 hole at my home course, I just had three worst shots ever in a row:

1. sliced tee shot that put me side of big trees.

2. punched second shot directly to pin but rolled off back of green

3. tried to be cute with lobe shot with no green to work with but topped and rolled all the way to the other side of green.

4. drained a perfect 40 feet par save putt that roller-coastered up and down around contours.

somehow, it felt special soon I hit that putt and chased down with my hands up for perfect celebration.

Had a few that were really good -

On a downwind 485 yard par 5, I launched it and carried trees on the left for a total of 330 - my biggest hit in a long time and one of my biggest ever.

Third shot into a par 5 on the wrong side of two trees with a back right pin, and I intentionally sliced it a good 20 yards to about 8'.

Nearly hit a partial lob wedge in the hole on a short par 4 leaving a tap-in birdie - it was the first hole. Couldn't have been happier!

Going into the 18th hole tied against my playing partner, I hit my tee shot into a fairway bunker... From there with my 8th iron i knock it 2 feet from the pin for birdie and to win the match.

I birdied a nemesis hole of mine. I got to within 40 feet of the pin on a par 5. I decided to use a hybrid and putt it. The hit ball went around the hole and then behind it. I thought I was going to putt it for par. Then the ball starting rolling back and went into the hole. I was playing by myself and threw up my arms in jubilation. Thanks for the opportunity. Love to have this to put on my Titleist driver.

Best shot the the year was my second on a 380 yard par 4. 3 wood approach just short of a pond and a 115 yard wedge that spun back to about a foot. Usually I’m short of the pin and spinning back further, so this was a nice treat.

These covers look awesome!

Best shot of 2017: Playing Shinnecock on a beautiful June day, come up to #18 and have a 30 ft putt left for birdie, downhill and breaking hard left to right. There is a pretty sizable crowd on the patio watching, and I make the birdie putt with a subtle fist pump for a 77! One of the most memorable experiences of my life. Doesn't get much better than Shinny!

My best shot of the year was on 17 at Pebble Beach. A 5i that never left the pin, landed just short and rolled just past the pin. The groups backed up on the 18th tee gave it a round of applause. Tapped in from 6” for my third birdie of the day, and then proceeded to dump my tee ball in the Pacific on 18, still a highlight of my year.
