When you try to buy the PX6 through golfsupport.com, and you are in the US, at checkout it will make you remove the items and gives a pop up stating that they can't be shipped to your country. So it looks like this loophole to buy PX6 cheap may be closed. Which, honestly...makes sense. Golfsupport.com's price is cheaper than the US wholesale price, so it had to be stealing a lot of US sales from ProQuip direct.

I lucked out and was able to get mine before this happened. I really like my PX6.

Hey Chris,

I have the Sunice Orion paclite right now and I was wondering which you would go with between the Px6 and the Sunice Apollo lined jacket. In a perfect word price being a non factor which one would you rather have?

Also I have the narooma pants any benefit to changing to the px6 pants?

Cheers.

If price was no concern, I think I'd still go with the PX6 jacket. I have plenty of lined GoreTex jackets, and in terms of comfort and breathability, they aren't the first ones I reach for when I know it's going to rain and I need something more substantial than a 2.5 layer (Paclite or the sort). PX6, Kjus Pro3L, are softer, quieter and more breathable than GoreTex in my experience.

On the pants, if you already have good pants (as you apparently do) that fit, I wouldn't worry with spending additional money on more, even the PX6. I've found (for my own use at least) that pants aren't nearly as critical as the jacket, and I use the jacket far more than I do pants, often times jacket only during light rains. For someone looking to buy rain pants for the first time, I'd always push them toward PX6 (but that may change as the cheap loophole has been closed), but someone with GoreTex pants already, I'd say keep the cash.

If the golfsupport.com loophole is indeed definitely closed, then yes, unfortunately ProQuip direct will be the best place to buy, as long as it's done during their sales. But for those of us who have been spoiled by the golfsupport ProQuip prices, it's a bit of a tough pill to swallow, as even when ProQuip USA runs their 30% off sale, the PX6 is still WAY higher than when bought on golfsupport. The ProQuip website would have to have approximately a 55% off sale to meet the golfsupport.com price.

I emailed golf support to find out what the deal was and they replied that they recently received an email from proquip to stop selling their products to buyers in the US and South America

Makes sense. The Euro golfsupport.com ProQuip pricing had to be doing damage to US ProQuip sales. The golfsupport retail pricing is under US wholesale pricing.

You know I love the Zero Gravity stuff. Probably (in my opinion) the best ultralight weight rain gear I've got. Has ended up better than my Kjus Dexters, and Kjus themselves have recently confirmed my suspicion that the Dexter is only meant for minimal exposure/emergency situations, and not designed for long term use in the rain. It's basically to pack in your golf bag and get you back to the clubhouse in a rainstorm type of stuff. Zero Gravity half zip is almost as light and can be used in a sustained rain.

Ok Chris , with all the most recent Proquip news, what would you do for a trip to Ireland? Just looked at the proquipusa site and Px6 jacket Px5 pants combo is $650. That still may be worth it for me, but what would you do. Anything else you would recommend on that kind of trip?

No idea if it would work but what if you ordered it through golf support for delivery to where you’re playing in Ireland. May well get the decent pricing that way and come out a winner. Worth seeing if they’d do it.

Sounds like a good idea but I’d be afraid it wouldn’t fit.

Chris, thanks again for all your help.

Quick concern I have based on the above comment. I have an 8-day Scotland trip coming up in July and then Bandon in October. Based on review of this thread, I bought the KJus Dexter 2.5 half zip on sale a couple months back and had hoped that (and an older Footjoy rain shirt to wear over it in heavy rain/emergency) would get me thru Scotland and then make a determination if I needed something stronger for Bandon... Reading your comment on the Dexter, do I need to just go ahead and buy a PX6 or Zero Restriction Power Torque to be prepared for both trips?

I have ProQuip pants from a couple of generations ago so I should hopefully be good there.

I'm heading to Scotland in June and asked GolfSupport about doing exactly this, having it sent to the Golf Inn in St Andrews as that's our first stop. The reply I got was this:

"Unfortunately the only way to do this would be to use a UK based credit card to pay for the order, as we aren't able to ship to a different country to the registered billing address"

Does the PX6 have some stretch to it? Where you wouldn’t have to wear it baggy to not feel restricted? Love the idea of their pull side tabs if it’s a little baggy

Hadn't been back to this thread in awhile, mainly because I got in on the golfsupport.com deal 15+ months ago. I will say the following......

I have tried numerous Gore-Tex and other rain suits, from when I was in High School and College playing on the golf teams. Gore Tex was always great, but only when it was chilly and it tended to get hot for me.

I have the PX5 Stormforce, I used them in Scotland as it rained like crazy on the Friday of the open when I played the Jubilee course. They were absolutely amazing, and what was even more amazing was that was the only day I really needed them. When I played Royal Dornoch 6 days earlier we got a little spitting of rain and I used an old Ping short sleeve that worked just fine.

In March we had a tournament at the club I joined and I was able to use them as well and they were great. They were great in Scotland, and they have stayed great the three additional times I needed them back in the states. While the deal is gone from Golf Support, knowing what I know now, I would still pay the higher cost and order them without question.

Anyone on the fence, you can get off. Otherwise if you have a friend in Canada, you might be able to get them to order them and ship to you, or have someone in the UK order and ship to you. You will still save a pile of cash.

You two guys get in touch with Auchterlonies that is on the same street as the Golf Inn and see if they sell Pro Quip, or any of the other 3 or 4 golf shops there may as well.

I'm firmly in the proquip camp. Both the PX6 jacket and the PX6 pants are the best pieces of rain gear I've ever had (and I've tried/owned quite a few—though not as many as @chris975d). I was very lucky to have jumped on the GolfSupport.com deals while they lasted... and I'm so glad that I did. Nevertheless I would still buy PX5/PX6 again today, even at proquipUSA's prices (though I would wait/hope for a sale).

I had both the Kjus Pro 3L jacket and Clive 2L jacket briefly, but I eventually sold/returned them partially due to Kjus' weird wrist cuff design with large velcro flap/wing. The Clive seemed to breathe better than the Pro 3L, and the fabric in both Kjus' models were really nice, but the PX6 material felt even softer, was quieter, and its waterproofing performed brilliantly in downpours. The PX6 stuff just breathes so well and feels so incredibly soft/stretchy that I'm always amazed when I remember that they're quite waterproof too.

I do still keep a Kjus Dexter 2.5L jacket in my bag at all times though since it packs away so tiny. Nothing (certainly not the PX5/6) comes close to the Dexter in terms of packability/portability.

But yeah, it's an absolute bummer that proquip decided to prohibit GolfSupport.com from selling/shipping to the US.

I still can’t see the real difference between the PX6 and the PX5 pants. So my default is to go with the cheaper of the two since PX5 stills has an outstanding reputation

Sorry, I wasn't clear, I was communicating with GolfSupport not Proquip. I edited my post above. My wife is going to London for work next week so I asked them if she could purchase them as well but they said she would need to drive 3.5 hours to their store, so that isn't happening.

I've given up on getting Proquip at the GolfSupport prices at this point. I ended up buying a pair of Kjus Pro 3L II pants off eBay yesterday for $200, now I just need to find myself a jacket. Kjus has the Dexter 2.5L 1/2-zip on sale for $129 in a couple colors and they have my size, so I'll probably go that route. I know Chris illustrated that it will fail given sustained hard rain but I rarely play in the rain in the first place. Knock on wood we don't get dumped on when I'm in Scotland next month.
