This comment surprised me. I recently bought a pair of PX6 trousers and played wearing them this past Sunday. My pair absolutely has pockets (both front and rear). I used the pockets all day long. I also have a pair of PX5 trousers that also have pockets. So, I'd be surprised if this were a mid-stream design change. If your pant don't have pockets, it's my opinion that they are defective. I think that I'd either contact the retailer or Proquip directly and see if they will swap them out for you.

Can the pants be worn overtop shorts or regular golf pants? Or do you have to wear them as the primary pant?

I haven't owned any Galvin Green items. But, I recently tried some on and would have been XXL. FWIW, I'm XL with the Proquip and XXL with the Ping items that I do own.

I recently ordered some Dexter pullovers (one long sleeve and one short sleeve) from Kjus. But I haven't received them yet). Kjus has a sizing app on their site where they ask a bunch of questions about your dimensions and then recommend a size for you. For me, the app recommended 2 sizes with a 66% recommendation of the larger of the two sizes (56) and 33% recommendation of the smaller (54). I went with the larger and will exchange if necessary. UPS says that delivery is expected on Monday. I'll update after I receive and try them on.

The Dexter pullovers arrived today. The 56 (which they also list as XXL on the collar tag) is more snug than the Proquip XL and Ping XXL. Although I only tried a Galvin Green jacket on in the store and can't do a one to one comparison in my house, I would estimate that the Kjus XXL is pretty close to the Galvin Green XXL.

Awesome, thanks for the comparison!

For those who are interested in ordering Proquip gear, but are not interested in paying Proquip USA prices, I would suggest looking at some UK sites other than Golfsupport.com. Some are still shipping to the US. I've recently ordered some Proquip wind / warmth gear from a UK site with no difficulties. Although their prices are not as low as Golfsupport's prices, they are definitely lower than Proquip USA prices, even with the 25% off promotion that's currently running (code "FALL25). Given that they are apparently in violation with something from Proquip, I'd rather not publicly out the site from which I ordered my gear. But, I easily found them when I did a Google search looking for a specific model.

It's possible that the the UK limitation is isolated to rain gear, in which case it wouldn't have applied to the items that I ordered. There are also some items that appear to be sold in the UK, which are not being sold in the US. The items that I ordered were a combination of things that are and are not available in the US.

My advice is to look around before buying directly from Proquip USA. You might be pleasantly surprised.

When I was looking to buy some rain gear I got a lot of great information from this thread, so thought I'd chip in with my experiences.

In July I found a **Kjus Pro 3**L jacket on ebay for a good price. It is a fairly thin shell which fits snugly but comfortably and stretches very well in all the right places. I was a little warm and stuffy in it on warmer days in the 70s and higher, but it does the job of rain gear excellently.

With the cooler fall weather, it is making an excellent outer shell. I wear it every round now, rain or shine, and layer underneath it. Very comfortable to wear through a whole round and I add or remove layers underneath it as needed. I hardly notice I'm wearing a jacket as it is light, moves well, does not restrict movement at all, and is quiet. Today was in the high 30s and with a Smartwool long sleeve shirt and a thin wool sweater underneath, I was perfectly comfortable and warm without overheating. I walk, which makes a big difference. If I was riding in a cart I probably would have been freezing and needed another layer of insulation.

Zero buyers remorse for the Kjus Pro 3L.

Eventually I'll probably add the pants, though I don't imagine those will get as much use.

  • 2 months later...

Bumping this thread as I need to update my rain gear (2002 Zero Restriction) in advance to a trip to Bandon next month and Ireland later this year. I like to spend $$$ for quality that will last. I want basic black - no color accents like I have seen on some brands. My old ZR gear fits like a lot of clothes back in the day...really baggy. I assume modern rain gear is less baggy than before.

Also, my old ZR pants were roomy enough to wear regular pants under them. With modern golf pants, do you still do that, or just wear a base layer like under ski pants?

I can get FJ, Kjus and GG through my pro shop at a "member" price. As an aside, I wish Arc'teryx made golf rain gear, as I use it for skiing and have a relationship with the company to get it at a great price.

Thanks.

I'm really liking my ProQuip Stormforce PX6 Pro, which I got over the holidays.

I went with a Medium (6'1" 185) over a Large, as I didn't want the bagginess. Had a flash 15min shower a few weeks ago, so got to test it. I wore UnderArmour base layer, polo shirt, jumper, vest underneath it and it works a charm.

Scored a deal on Galvin Green Goretex. I'd personally trust any Goretex gear. Had it before for Golf and also Snowboarding stays dry.

But you're also paying a premium.

I got 17 years out of my last rain gear purchase (ZR), so I am a firm believer in paying for quality and then not worrying about it. I'd keep wearing it, but I don't want to look like I weigh 300 lbs in pictures...all that old golf stuff was really baggy.

carrera; I'd say you will be a big fan of the Kjus Pro 3L 2.0. Comes in all black, no accents. It breathes really well, unlike my Galvin Green Gore-Tex (or any paclite Gore-Tex for that matter). The Kjus jacket actually comes in right and left-handed models as the stretch panels on the back are different for each. Pretty amazing technology. Their ski jackets and pants are pretty amazing too; as you mentioned Arc'teryx.

Thanks Togotown - I am leaning in that direction. I will have to figure out sizing. I wear a Medium jacket in Arc'teryx and large pants, so I will have to figure out if Kjus fits the same way. There are no local dealers that carry it.

With modern golf rain pants, do you still wear regular pants under them, or a base layer? I assume regular pants, so you can take off the rain pants if the conditions are good.

No problem; Mine are a 50 in the Pro 3L 2.0 jacket and a 50 in the Pro 3L 2.0 pants. I'm 5' 11", 175lbs. They fit really well - a nice modern trim fit, not tight and not baggy. I wear the pants over golf shorts with no issues. Also; check out their site, they have a really good 'fit finder' that takes you through a bunch of questions. The stuff isn't cheap, but the quality is such that I don't anticipate having to invest more money in rain gear down the road.

Darn. While my club has a KJUS account, the company wouldn't fill a one-off order like mine. They had a huge minimum (like 30+ sku's) that no way my club's pro shop could do.

So I will probably have to go with FJ Select - my pro shop has that in stock. Any negative opinions about it?

I don't think so, bar on a forum of golf anoraks you're going with the FJ option instead of a connoisseur's choice like Kjus, Proquip, Galvin Green etc... ;-)

One big pro obviously, is being able to try it on, if it fits and you can pop out to the range and hit some balls and see it doesn't impact your swing, go for it.

I have had two or three different FootJoy jackets and I still use a couple of them and I have never had any problems with them at all. There will be people on here who will say differently but what I can say is that I have used FootJoy jackets a lot, part and parcel of playing golf in Scotland and I have never had any issues with them. That in itself to me is something of a validation. I recently picked up some RLX waterproofs as well and they have been pretty steady as well.

I have various FJ, Kjus, GG and ProQuip products. My experience with FJ has been very different than a lot of comments (many which I personally think are exaggerated) as I have never had an issue with any of them. In fact, I played a tournament two weeks ago in a steady downpour wearing one of the Hydroknit tops and my shirt was as dry after the round as it was when I teed off. My only issues with FJ in the past have been style, weight, stretchiness (if that's a word) and lack of overall tailored look. As far as handling water penetration, their products have stood up against anything else I've worn including Kjus, GG and ProQuip.

Two points here. You're always going to hear the internet stories of how FootJoy is soooo terrible, people get wet the first wear, and other exaggerations, but the truth of the matter is that FootJoy has been just as good in terms of waterproofing for about 6-8 years now, as long as you make sure to compare "apples to apples" and buy FJ that actually contains a waterproof membrane. The internet stories seem to have come from the days before FJ widely used waterproof membranes and leaned more on DWR only, combined with consumers seeing/buying garments that are labeled as "water resistant" (DWR), and not "waterproof" (membrane). I've put FJ membranes through far more wear/harsh scenarios than more than likely anyone here, and never, ever had one fail. And many posters here can tell you how much rain gear across all lines I have, and how much I use it.

On the KJUS account thing, for us Acushnet account holders (Acushnet/FootJoy acquired KJUS last year), the latest info I have from them aligns with the previous poster's experience. Last time (late 2019) that I talked with FJ/Acushnet reps, they were basically allowing KJUS to operate standalone, and like they always have (separate sales reps, etc). For KJUS, the last time I spoke with them on a retail account level, that meant that an account had to have a minimum order quantity (as you stated in your post), agree to maintain "X" amount of in-season/in-line product in stock at all times, and order "X" amount in dollars each year. For KJUS, with the price per unit (even at wholesale), the MOQs and X amount of inventory ordered per year makes it very hard for a standalone golf course/proshop to carry. But, for the courses and retail sales channels they are targeting with the brand's image (very high end locations)

Thanks guys for the comments. I will probably give the FJ Select carried at my club a go. It appears to be "waterproof" (at least warrantied as such for two years) so will do the job. A local golf store (Golf Mart) carries Galvin Green, but I don't like the color accents on it, and the selection is pretty limited. FJ and GG are basically the only brands carried locally (SF area) aside from lower priced store brands.
