Any recommendations on rain gloves that are warm as well?  I currently use the FJ rain gloves but I play in the northwest and this time of year is wet and cold and I find the FJ gloves give me grip but leave my hands wet and cold.

Zero restriction windstopper gloves are a little warmer than the FJ rain gloves.

How are the pockets in the Torrentshell pants? I have some old ones for hiking/dog walking, etc., but don't like them for golf bc the pockets are mesh and not lined. It makes getting tees in and out a pain.

I’m not sure, I had my first kid and have not even touched my golf clubs in a long time. When I go to my other house I’ll check and report back

Anyone ever try the Inesis rain gear? They have some pretty good reviews online for a "budget" brand.

I'm in need of new rain gear (mainly the top since my FJ pants are still preforming admirably), but at most I might play 4-5 rounds a year in the rain so it's hard for me to justify spending $400+ on a really good name brand rain suit.

Bumping this back up to ask a quick question or two about the ProQuip PX6/PX7 set.

  1. I typically wear a 30/30 pant, but hear that these pants run long.  Should I be all set with a small/29" inseam?  I don't think I need to go down to a 27, but wanted to ask others to see how true to size they run
  2. I wear a 38" regular coat. That puts me right between a small and medium jacket.  With a 30" waist, I'm a pretty slim guy, so I'm assuming the small should work as I don't want something baggy.  For reference, I typically wear a small for many golf brands, maybe a medium here and there. Any comments on which size fits best?
  3. This is totally random - anyone know if the black from the PX6 line will match the black from the PX7 line?  I'm thinking of mixing lines and am a little nuts about things matching up. Has anyone put the two next to each other to see if they are similar in color?

Typically I would just order multiple sizes and then return, but with the ProQuip stuff coming from the UK, shipping will get out of control quick.

You pick your brand, but make sure it’s Gore Tex… I learned my lesson the hard way in Ireland in October.

Love my Kjus rain gear.  Not goretex but works well for any rain storm.   Bought for Ireland in 2019 and it was clutch.

Couldn't agree more - it's not cheap, but my Kjus gear has bumped Gore-Tex out of the rotation.  Far more comfortable and breathable.

I believe the patent for Goretex has run out so manufacturers can make copies of the material.  I know most of my gear is Goretex but my last two pieces (Zero Restriction Stealth model) are lighter and still guaranteed for life.  I find they breathe better than Goretex also.  The Goretex keeps me warmer however, so in the heat of Summer I'll wear the Stealth but Fall and Winter put on the Goretex.

Arc’teryx if you’re willing to spend the cash.

I love my Arc'teryx gear but I find it's on the crinkly side.  I've got 2 ZR jackets and those are really nice, a little stretchy and quiet. Obviously nowhere the durability of Arc'teryx but it doesn't have to be either.

I agree on gore Tex I wouldn't make it a priority unless you are playing in rain and cold weather. I don't play when it's cold so I never wear my GG gore Tex it gets way too warm for me. The kjus 3L is the best rain suit I've ever had but as others have said it is a lot of money for something you wear infrequently.

Goretex used to be the gold standard and it still is a great product. But yes other companies have come out with their own versions of waterproof breathable PTFE membranes such as eVent which directly competes with Goretex.

VERY IMPORTANT for those that don't know. A good waterproof membrane like Goretex won't work properly if the DWR (durable waterproof repellant) fabric on the outside is not working properly. If water is not beading and shedding water the garment will "wet out."  When this happens the jacket won't breath, will trap moisture in and maybe even leak.  I've heard guys complain "my jacket leaked and it's Goretex."  This is usually because the DWR on the outside needs to be restored. Restore it by washing and treating with products like NikWax tech wash and waterproof spray or Grangers.  Once done the water beads up again.  Just follow the manufactures instructions.  Also NEVER EVER use fabric softener or dryer sheets.

cristphoto suggested washing and spraying my Sunice Tornado jacket.  A buddy actually had stuff called Gear Aid that appears to be similar to NikWax or Grangers.  He uses it on his jackets that he takes hiking.  I washed the jacket twice and then sprayed on the waterproof spray.  I haven't used it in the rain yet but I did test it by shooting the kitchen faucet spray on it for a minute or two.  Seemed to do a much better job beading water than prior to washing/treatment.

My wife thought I had lost my marbles when she walked into the kitchen.

Bringing back this thread instead of starting a new one. I am looking for a pair of rain pants that are actually quiet. Ideally quiet enough to walk through a silent house early in the morning and not have the "swish, swish" sound with every step. Do they exist?

I have a pair of Galway Bay pants that I wear somewhat regularly for damp, wet, cool mornings. Love that you can wear them like regular pants. They are quieter then my previous REI rainpants but despite the marketing they are not in fact "quiet".

I see Sun Mountain as the new Cirque line or the updated Rainflex line. Both of which are marketed as quiet. Anyone tried these?

I was going to suggest Galway bay.  I mean, over simplifying it, the swooshes what helps give you waterproofness

We’ll, that was a long read….

looking for a jacket , being in Canada the prices get worse for a European product sold from the US, and imported into Canada.  Oh well…

im particularly interested in the Kjus 3.0, and the ProQuip 7. My size issue is that most jackets are not long enough in the back for me, when I address the ball the jacket rides up and rain gets in the back of my pants.  All this in XL sizes, L is tight across the shoulders.
Looking for user experience on the Kjus, is it long enough to prevent this?  I’m 6’2”, 185, 34/32 pants.  I have a 20 year old ZR Goretex jacket that seems to be longer than anything I’ve tried, including the GG high end jacket I tried on today.

Also, anyone tried the new ping Graphene Jacket?

As someone who has spent tons of time and money thinking about and buying waterproof gear for climbing, skiing, and mountaineering, I would never buy a 2.5 layer waterproof jacket. Generally speaking waterproof stuff has an outer layer of nylon that protects the waterproof membrane underneath it (with a few exceptions). 3-layer waterproof jackets have another layer of material on the inside of the jacket to protect the membrane as well and help wick moisture away from your body. 2.5-layer jackets basically have a pattern printed directly on the membrane that basically lifts the membrane away from the layer below it - however, this leaves the membrane exposed to oils from your skin as well as to direct wear, which will break down the membrane over time. That's why you'll often see 2.5-layer jackets delaminating or breaking down on the inside of the neck area.

Thanks, I agree on the 2.5 or any jacket with no extra layer.

Have you looked at Sunice? Canadian company I think. They make a really nice Goretex Golf Jacket. https://sunice.com/collections/mens-performance-jackets/products/s12006-mens-apollo-gore-tex-waterproof-performance-jacket-1

Yes, they appear Canadian, I’ll check them out. Easier to try and return here than USA and the UK.

I have their Eddison GoreTex pants. They are great. I also like my Sunice Jay rain jacket but it's a lightweight 2.5 layer jacket.

I have two Sunice rain jackets - one Goretex and one eVent.  They both protect from the rain well but there is one quirk to both.  The zipper is reversed from standard American style. Not a deal breaker but slightly awkward when zipping up.

That's odd. I have several Sunice jackets (rain, hybrid, etc...) and they all zip standard US style. And I bought them from Function18, a UK retailer.

To clarify, the zipper pulls on the Sunice’s are on the left. EVERY other piece of my clothing the pull is on the right. One Sunice was purchased from TGW and the other was purchased at a course (about a year apart). I’m talking about full zip - not quarter zip.

My Sunice is the opposite. I also tried on stuff here (Seattle) and it was the same as what I bought. Galvin Green (jacket on right) is definitely euro zippered.

One thing I’ve noticed playing in Scotland and Ireland is that the majority of the caddies wear Proquip rain gear. They deal with the rain more than any of us, so I’m looking at some of their stuff.
