PXG 0311 iron Tip Size? All current models 0311, 0311T, 0311xf, 0311x

Anyone know what tip size of shaft to use for pxg irons?

 

0311: .370

0311T: .370

0311XF: .370 parallel

0311X driving iron:? assuming .370 like the rest

 

 

I have a set of 0311XF in front of me and to my surprise they seem to be parallel. I am guess that is to accommodate most graphite shafts and lighterweight steel shafts. I imagine the other irons 0311 and 0311T are taper. 0311x Driving iron should be parallel.

The 0311 are parallel.370 tip. I just reshafted mine and had to use shims to install .355 shafts in them.

Thanks for the info guys. I don't know about you guys but I was very surprised to find out that they were parallel. Also the ferrules used for these irons are strange. the collar that inserts in to the hosel is surprisingly deep.

If you're in need of similar info in the future, Golfworks has a wonderful page with all the stock shafts and hosel sizes for a bunch of brands dating back quite a while. I've used it multiple times for different projects.

Golfworks also has the PXG ferrules with the collar and that match the outside diameter of the hosel so you don't have to turn them when reshafting.

I’m trying to get away with not buying the “pxg” specific ferrule but it seems to help the fit significantly. I also hate to be shimming irons as expensive as these are.

 

I am wondering if the guys on tour have taper tipped versions or have theirs shimmed as well.

All PXG irons are .370. To accommodate .355 shafts, they developed a special ferrule that goes deep into the hosel and a tip spacer that needs to be applied to the .355" shaft tip after abrasion and prior to installation. This spacer acts as a shim to allow a .355" tapered shaft to seat correctly in a .370" hosel bore.

Just to confirm: are the Gen2 irons also .370 tips? I can't seem to find anything definitive referencing the Gen2 tip sizes out there. I can't see why they would change but just want to know before I buy shafts.

All PXG irons are .370”. To install a .355” shaft, use their proprietary shim. They’re available at billy bobs along with ferrules

I’m looking to put colored ferrules on my 0311t irons. Has anyone done this successfully. I’ve seen several pictures on Instagram so I know it’s possible, just don’t know how risky it maybe of a head flying off because the colored ferrules do not have that deep sleeve to correctly seat the shaft regardless of it being taper tip or parallel? Anybody?

What about the Hosel diameter for the PXG Big Daddy, Romeo or Zulu Milled Wedges? Are these Parallel .370 shaft size also, or are they .355 ??

Tip diameter for a PXG 0311XF Gen2 irons says "universal" on the Golfworks website, what does this mean?

I’ve had a few heads come off even using the special PXG golfworks ferrule. Put taper tip dynamic golds in them for a friends. Not sure why? And suggestions?

I would look at @GeminiGolf note above and make sure they were assembled correctly with ferrule AND the spacer. Personally I like parallel shafts because I like to play in between flexes and you can really dial them in with the tipping versatility. But tapers should work fine in a .370 hosel if a step isn’t missed on the install.

There is a lot of space in the hosel when installing a taper tip shaft into a parallel .370 bore.  It's critical to clean the bore really well. 

 

- remove old epoxy (ideally) while the head is hot after pulling the shaft

- use MEK or acetone to degrease the hosel

- abrade the hosel using a fresh/clean 100 grit cartridge roll on a mandrel spinning in a drill motor.  When done the metal should be bright and fresh, with a crosshatch pattern

- use MEK or acetone again to degrease

- do the same for the shaft

- use QUALITY epoxy and a collared ferrule. 

- brass shim works well, or get a PXG shaft cap, ideally lightly abraded so the epoxy will bond to it.

Thanks for the reply. I’m pretty sure I prepped everything correctly and used the PXG collared ferrule and small plastic tip for the taper part of the shaft. No shim. I’m thinking I used some older glue since multiple heads have worked loose. It was Brampton’s 2 part and I remember the hardener was a little firmer that usual but thought it would be ok. Not sure of the shelf life of epoxy but maybe had it in my basement for over a year. Had it in a ziploc bag also. I ordered new glue so will try again. I will use shafting beads also. Anything else I’m missing? Thanks

Skip the shafting beads.  They do NOT increase the bond strength in cases like this.

Old thread and sorry for the 7 month bump haha.  But, would the use of a shim allow for use of a non collared ferrule?  Or, when using a .355 shaft in a .370 hosel basically necessitate the use of a collared ferrule?
