Wow! Another terrible iron design In the name of “technology”. Thought they would learn from endless face cave ins from the toe and heel slot fiasco of past designs but they still insist on using it.

 

Now a second massive problem....A giant cutout at the bottom of the hosel to aid in lie adjustment because the body of the hosel itself is obviously incredibly delicate Because of removing weight from it.

 

Guaranteed to bend more upright with heavy use, especially off mats. Wonder how many will break during adjustments?

 

A warranty nightmare in the making.

Drivers look great . . But why would anyone buy this junk? 790s seem to be selling well, just make a larger version of that and be done.

They look horrible to me, but I like simplicity. They will sell like crazy. Tis the way of the world. Lots of changes and new slots there, but will they lower anyone's score? I wonder how long the golf economy can survive the constant and short new product cycles.

From what I’ve heard, post-adidas, TaylorMade product release cycles will be very different.

 

The P Irons are in the line for 18-24 months. Maybe longer.

MG Wedges will be 24+ months

Woods and GI Irons annually.

 

No one has said it explicitly, but I get the feeling that the frequent release strategy was pushed by the adidas side and the TM guys were never comfortable with it.

Just looks like every other TM iron of the last 5 years. I'm actually going to force myself to look at Ping/Titelist next year because they have sensible progression and evolution. These are almost identical to M1/M2 of last season save for some blue and red paint fill. Horrible.

The ribs don't seem to work in the same way that jail break does. Ribs allow the face to flex more while jail break stiffens the club structure.

 

But why does TM not just thin the face at the edges a lil' bit more?

Probably. Taylormade logo is on my CCM hockey stick.

 

I have an M1 demo still... Blade length is actually pretty good, just a wee bit thick top line, and you can still see the back poking out a bit, which I think is the biggest draw back. P790 slightly shorter blade, but definitely more thin top line and obviously no stick out on the back. I don't see tons of guys really wanting to play the M3..They'll either be in M4 for all the forgiveness they can get, or P790 for similar distances but better looks and feel.

I question the durability especially with the face slots. My RSi2 had 3 clubs that caved in the face and the worst part is that TM would not honor the warranty if you are the 2nd owner. I just moved mine on in a trade in at Roger Dunn. Funny enough, I have not seen any RSi2 irons in the pre-owned sections. I would just wait and see...my 2c

Ribcor tech aka we are tired of our faceslots caving in but refuse to give up on them so now we have support for the face slots that basically makes them cosmetic, tech.

 

Id give the M3s a swing.

Saw these back when the rep brought the 2018 line around to the pro shop in December. The M3, in particular, is a good addition to the TM line. Presents with low offset and really like the addition of the white aim line at the bottom groove. At address, the M3 is a slightly beefier (and more affordable) version of the P790 (which I think is a phenomenal iron). Opinions on the back are subjective--personally I don't care what the iron looks like in the bag, I care what it looks like in the hitting position.

I can't help but think that the issues we see on the face slots here on golfwrx are not really happening that much "in the real world". Because we all know that if Taylormade was getting that many complains about them they would have removed that from the new irons and created "something better". Yes we have heard of them failing and most of those have been taken care of by Taylormade (for the original purchaser) but there they are in the new M3 & M4 irons. Can't wait to put my M2 up against an M4 to see if there is any difference at all. Because I know my 2017 M2 was identical in performance to the 2016 version when I put them side by side.

Also noticed on the spec sheets, M3 has less offset than P790, yet blade length and thickness is less on the 790. Additionally, lie angle looks to be .5* or so more upright with M3. So for anybody maybe thinking of combo set... you may need to mess with lofts and lies.
