There are some people I see and hear using them on IG. But other than that very quiet. Don't see much on them but hardly ever see them sold so maybe that's good?

I just received my Cody James custom putter.  I can't say enough about Cody, his communication was great and the putter turned out better than I possibly could have imagined.  I had a very bad experience with another custom putter maker so it was nice to have the process go the way I envisioned it.  

 

I can't wait to get this thing on the course!

Definitely want to see it, I really enjoy his work. Prices not so much lol.

Here is the putter, he recently put it up on his instagram so I'll just use that link.  I wanted a chromatic bronze finish - but I had him torch it to add a little extra flavor and it turned out incredible.  It's subtle but also a little flashy, which I love.

Wow. Cody James’ putters just look so nice. I love that he’s not trying to be a master welder. He just perfectly mills a one-piece putter and then perfectly finishes it. The finished product just flat-out looks perfect and expensive, without having to punch you in the face. With the never ending discussion about steel types and/or whether or not certain custom/boutique putters are worth the high price tag, these putters actually look like they are worth their high price tag. Maybe that’s why there’s virtually no used market on his pieces...they basically look as good as you can get in an Anser-style putter, so you just stop rotating through putters after you get one.

He quoted me $1,300 for a patriot model with hand softening, hammer-tone sole, and a timascus “J” insert and I’m a righty. So, $1,000 sounds right if you don’t add that stuff in. Did you just ask for a regular custom without the timascus letter and hammer-tone sole?

 

Really though, I don’t know if I can pay that much for a putter. But his putters look like they’re probably worth the money.

His putters are worth the money if you don't mind paying 1300 USD for a "Lamb-esque" custom putter.  There is no way anyone is getting anywhere near their money back if they ever choose to sell. This isn't a Scotty or a Betti or a Byron or Swag that hold their resale value.   

Seeing a guy make great putters that the average Joe will never buy does nothing for me.  That's just me.

From a machinists point of view I think Cody is just about doing the cleanest work out there, maybe if you're a fan of the hand finishing/stamping sorta stuff he won't quite do it for you but I'm sure he's going to be putting out some impressive stuff.

 

Price wise I think if you're getting something that isn't stock, $1000 isn't wild, it would cost an awful lot more to walk in to a machine shop with a an idea and have them make you something - design, model, machine and finishing.

Very good point. You’re not just paying for a chunk of metal; you’re paying for time, talent, know-how, access to expensive equipment, etc.

 

I think Cody may do a release of some stock putters soon (like Brandon Matthews, Olson, etc.). Maybe these will be a little lower cost to let me in the door. Or, maybe I should just pony up if I want an Uber clean custom putter.

Yeah I just wanted a stock head shape (I forget which one now; whatever the 009 look alike is) with a flowneck. No fancy materials, customization, anything...I passed and got a Brandon Matthew for $600 instead.

The old thing of 'you're not paying me for the 10 minutes it took, you're paying for the experience to do it in 10 minutes...'

Batches will certainly give more folk the opportunity to get in to something from one of these makers, it's crazy how quickly Olson's releases go!!

I like seeing the stuff behind the scenes, how they machine things, there's always something to learn!!

I think Cody does some of the nicest milling out there. The extra hand work is really cool but not quite for me, I would love one of his putters but seeing as I like quite simple it would be a hard pill to swallow for $1300 unless I do some extra milling and what not to make up for that price point. Unless I win the lottery or get a sugar mama then that changes everything.

 

Oh an @1puttTUT Nice grab on the Matthews at $600 I think his prices are now starting at $800
