Streamsong Caddie fee

Recommended Posts

As a career caddie for 20 years currently thought put some input. Have personally worked countless rounds at the below properties and many others.

Whistling straits 65$ shop caddie fee

They get less than half on a check.

Typical tip around $75-100$ a bag for a solid caddie.

Player cost $140-165$ per, $260-330$ for 2 bags

Caddie gets $105-130$ a bag $210-260$ 2 bags total with cash and check.

Streamsong

Caddie fee paid directly 100$ + tip

Typically $120-160 a bag for double

Caddie makes $240-$320 cash 2 bags

Golfers pay same. $240-320

4 players in cart typically pay $40-100 a player with cash fee and tip combined payed at end. These can be crazy good loops though when players have a great day. Well over 100$ a player.

So in many cases it is the same or less, but everyone wins. No middle man stealing. For the most part that's why those places have quality loopers!

Streamsong, bandon, sand valley, ect follow these guideline. It may seems expensive to fork over a few hundos after the round but it's not hidden and broken up in payments.

Also bottom line is if the guy was great just tip well! Gonna give him 120$? Throw him $140 or $150, we will appreciate the extra 20 or 30.?

I got though this thread and really didn't find the answer to OP's question

Streamsong Caddie Fees:

Single Bag $100 plus gratuity

Double Bag $90/per player plus gratuity

What is a fair amount of gratuity for someone double bagging ($180 pre-tip)?

I'd say it depends on your experience and the quality of service provided by the caddie. If it were me, I'd probably tip as follows:

> Top-notch service (exceeded my expectations) - $50-60 tip, maybe a bit more

> Average or above-average service (met expectations) - $30-40 tip

> Below-average or poor service (didn't meet expectations) - $20 tip

Again, it will vary from golfer to golfer as there is no cut n dry amount to tip a caddie. What applies to me could be completely different for another golfer. It really depends on the quality of service provided by the caddie in the eyes of the golfer. And some golfers have vary different perspectives. I've seen some golfers tip a caddie 200-300% of the caddie fee for what I thought was average service. Others tipped 20% when service was top notch imo.

The ABSOLUTE WORST caddy that I ever had was at Streamsong. I'll carry my own bag from now on.

Compared to caddies I've had at other resorts, I would say that the caddie I had at Streamsong was probably at the bottom of the list. He wasn't awful, he just wasn't... good.

I get it. I’d estimate that 25% of caddies are just plain bad, a good number are sort of indifferent, and about 25% are very good. My caddies at SS have all been very good.

But it’s annoying to be lumping around with somebody for four hours who’s not good, knowing that you’re going to fork over $100 at the end of the round for the privilege.

I felt this way at Pebble Beach... i had a hungover bartender on his first loop and he reminded me what the min tip was.. i was less than pleased

The next time I have a caddy, I'll remind him/her of my "expectations" so that he can get his "minimum tip". Otherwise it will be less. Not having to ask for yardages (accurate ones, not guess too) isn't too much to ask. Just do your job.

On a side note, I am playing Streamsong Red and Black over New Year's Eve and I have decided to carry my own bag both rounds. I'll shoot my own yardages, at least I know they will be correct and not "guessing". I don't need anyone to read a green for me, that part of the game I am good at.

The times when I utilize a caddy I have different levels of expectations that run parallel with the amount I tip:

Minimum service/tip - carry my bag, help look for balls in the rough, rake bunkers

Good to above average service/tip - all of the above + help with reading greens, preferred line of play, and club selection

Excellent service/tip - all of the above + generally fun to spend 4 hours with and excellent local course knowledge i.e. wind directions, hidden fairway speed slots, etc.

when we play streamsong in June 2023 i purposely got tee times where we can walk and not have to pay for them.  i dont need you to tell me yardages when i have my own range finder, i dont need you to rake my bunkers, i am not an idiot.  reading greens is about the only thing i am good at these days it seems.  so no worries there!  i will save my $100 and move on.  just no reason these days to have caddie.

That is the worst. TBH I think we're seeing caddie quality go down across the board. As golf has boomed, the number of caddies on staff at a lot of resorts has gone way up so now there are a lot of new guys out there that aren't trained well and really don't know what they are doing. A good caddie is a great experience and they can shave a few shots, a bad caddie can cost you shots and frustrate you / remove some of the enjoyment of the day.

When you land on a bad one the best thing you can do is tell them in a respectful way that you like to use your own range finder and read your own putts, but could use their help with the bag, raking bunkers, pulling flags, finding balls, keeping stuff clean, etc, and that if you have any questions about the course you'll ask and they don't need to provide any input unless asked. If a bad caddie can follow that request then I can have a nice chat with them while we play and we both have a good day... but yes - I'll tip the bad caddie less.

Our group is looking to book a last minute trip to Streamsong for end of April. Carts at that time are not required but I can’t seem to figure out if caddies are? Ideally I would prefer to walk and do everything on my own but I see carts are $35 and require a group caddie of $45/golfer.

thanks

Unless something has changed recently, you can walk and carry your own bag with no caddie, or they also offer pushcart rentals. Caddie not mandatory.

Good luck at streamsong then... loosing at least 2-5 shots a round with that route

I mean depends if you've seen the courses before. They certainly helped me a lot the first round or two, but I've played each course enough I don't get much out of the caddies.

I do, however, think having caddies makes a huge difference when you are playing 36 a day for multiple days. I'm paying them as much to carry my bag as anything.

Oh man gonna lose sleep over 2-5 strokes. $20-50 per stroke basically. Yah you can still keep that bull crap fee.
