Don't mind this one:

There's also a great color shot of Gary leaning against Jack in the scorer's tent at the same event, but the only copy I can find is proprietary and can't be posted here.

I was also looking for a copy of the Nicklaus family around a trampoline in the back yard, just a terrific family shot, but I haven't been able to find it. I could shoot it with my phone (from the book I have it in, Jack Nicklaus On & Off the Fairway) if this new phone wasn't smack in the middle of refusing to sync with the PC.

How'd you like to take on Jimmy Demaret and Ben Hogan in a 4 ball match ?

I think perhaps Nicklaus and Miller could handle it ... based on their Canada Cup success rate ... but not many others

Somewhat related, one of my favourite books is The Match where Hogan and Nelson take on Ward Jr and Venturi. Awesome part of the book when Nelson calls Hogan from Eddie Lowery's house and lets the am's know who his partner will be

That is an absolute must-read, just a great book. And these are great photos. Wish I could hit "like" about a hundred times.

What has been seen cannot be unseen.

Those pictures were actually in Golf Digest one month. How Tom Kite was convinced this was a good idea is one of life's mysteries. You think he took some heat on the driving range that week?

I would imagine so. Lots of helpful friends walking up with trifolded scarves and such.

Kite had a helluva career, though, and was (and as far as I know still is) a total mensch. Just a little side story here: While I was living and workin in Austin in the early '90s, the Legends was still being held at Barton Creek. I got to go out early in the week for an exhibition match with Trevino, Chi Chi, Crenshaw, and Kite. They were all terrific and in a great mood. Trevino's ballstriking in particular was...I don't even know how to describe it, other than like an experienced musician or artist who is totally secure and confident in what he's doing. If you're a good player -- I'm a plus-2, but even if you're a single-digit at all you'll know this -- you know how it feels and sounds to hit a control shot, like when you're between clubs and take the longer club, choke up a little, shorten the swing a little, etc., and you hit it absolutely smack on the sweet spot, no vibration, with a little deeper sound that's just perfect? Every iron he hit was like that. Every freaking one. I'll never forget it. Kite was like a machine, just an efficient "snick" with a tight ball flight. Crenshaw was like he was when he was younger -- a little spray-oriented, but still a beauty to watch. Chi Chi was Chi Chi. Herman was still caddying for Trevino. It was a blast.

So after the thing is over, people are lined up waiting to catch the shuttle back to a parking lot up the hill. Kite comes out of the clubhouse, and instead of avoiding people, getting somebody to run him in a cart back to his car, end-running the line, waiting until everybody's gone, etc., he walks right to the line on the way to his car and stops for a good five minutes, telling everybody thanks for coming, recognizing a person here and there, "how ya doin', hope you enjoyed it," etc. It was clear that he made a point to do this deliberately. I've heard other stories along the same lines. Usually they don't involve diapers at all.

C'mon bscintnct where is a photo of a Tiger fist pump.

I'm waiting for the Tiger fire hydrant pic.

U

Yup. I was more interested in people who didn't embarrass themselves and the game. Or humiliate a wife and children. But to each his own, I guess.

Actually, I had forgotten about Tom in diapers until I just saw that again. How could you ever live that down? I can't laugh, I can't hardly look, just in shock - again!

I would like to know what bet he lost.....

It's science, I tell you.

Well played, Constantino :)

Ha. That was completely ridiculous, but a lot of fun nonetheless.

Sorry, guys. I have no idea what's malfunctioning here -- why a string of replies to different posts is appearing as one post, with command strings. Didn't do anything out of the ordinary. Not sure what I can do.

What an iconic shot and photo. It has always been my favorite.

My favourite is this famous photo of Ben Hogan at Merion and the 1950 US Open where he plays his 1 – iron shot to the 18th green in the fourth round! This photo by Hy Peskin was fantastic – capturing Hogan as he fought against nearly insurmountable odds to return from the near fatal car crash in 1949 and the head on collision between Hogan’s car and a Greyhound bus. It was also dramatic for documenting his comeback and marked the start to an incredible period in Hogan’s career.

Probably the best Sunday at a Major in recent years, what a battle!

Henrikfist-e1468793168214.jpg

Could very well be. I got the last two days recorded on my Tivo box and am rerunning them now little by little each morning when not working while getting some exercise on my exercise bicycle in front of the TV. Both days were terrific! A man-against-man race for 36 holes, exciting even on the last hole (if Stenriks drive would have reached that right bunker...). Obviously special for me since it was the first Scandinavian Male Major win, but regardless of that, one of the greatest tournaments ever. But as for a picture, the sinked putt on 16 is even better.

I am pretty sure at the 18 he hit his famed 3w and the big birdie was at the 15 ;)
