So Mayfair kinda lives in a different reality huh.. doesn’t exactly see or acknowledge the rules the way others would. Interesting. 
 

Does any know.. What was all the -lawyer being needed on phone calls- business? I’m not sure the article explained this..

to be honest, I don’t really know too much about it...

I remember azinger or maybe janzen or someone tell a story about Tuesday practice rounds...

and he “earned” the nickname...my recollection is very fuzzy but the “playfair” moniker was discussed a few years back and iirc it was well known...

 

But who knows...golfers are a gossipy crowd

I remember one year he was paired with tiger in the final group on a Saturday...

he was around 40 by this time iirc

 

anyhow, Carlos showed up to the COURSE 15 minutes before teeing off...

walked straight to first tee from his car...twisted a few times at the waist and striped one down the middle...

he refused to hit balls before a round...

said it didn’t matter lol

In 2001 I had the privilege of playing in a Challenge Tour event, Trevor had been a member of the tour in 2000 but placed high enough to earn his place on the Euro Tour for 2001. I'm unsure why he was playing the Formby Hall Challenge in 2001 but he was there and drawn in my group. 

 

Luckily I was a young cocky 19 year old so when he played a game I wasn't familiar with and made me look very, very mediocre I was young a dumb enough to not acknowledge/appreciate it lol

 

The difference was unsurprising, I was a EuroPro tour (level 3) player, he was a European tour (level 1) player and we met for a memorable to me (now) 2 rounds of golf at a level 2 tour event.

I remember that thread, it was very controversial.  Although Shamus claims there were up to *9 squirrels that attacked him and he still saved par but his playing companions attested there was only *one squirrel and Shamus made a double.

From memory I think Franco preferred to be out fishing rather than play practice rounds.

 

Franco's 5 brothers all became golf professionals and they grew up in home with a dirt floor.

Looks to me like that Jones fellow, who shot in the mid 70s on his par 69 115 slope course, and was ready to tee it up with the best.  It looks like Sir Nick is going to get a dimple in back of head when Jones hits a stinger pull cut that doesn't quite cut, in an effort to have Sir Nick take a look at his up and down game when being semi obstructed by shiny objects blocking  a clear shot to the green.  I tricky one indeed. .

btw, his rookie year RYO had headcovers of his head/face wearing a visor and clothes to match his outfit of the day...

Who Els could it be?

 

Ryo is pronounced with the r and y sound starting with the tongue pushed against the back of the top front teeth, then dropping the tongue and making the O sound. It's an acquired sound that is difficult for many non-Japanese to get it right. There is no real R sound. The R and Y sound more like "ri."

 

Ishikawa is still to this day and amazing ball striker. It's a mystery that he hasn't won as many tournaments as he could. He hits it in the precise middle if the clubface more consistently than anyone measured on tour. He made so much money in Japan, especially after shooting a 58 as a teenager on tour, that he didn't have to play golf anymore. His father was a banker and he pushed him to turn professional so he could pay off all the debts making Ryo the player he was. There is no such thing as junior golf in Japan, so he had to pay full boat to play golf and it was expensive near where they lived.

 

Ishikawa got in a little trouble in Japan because he got a drivers license from California (I believe, or Hawaii) during a tournament. He was 17 years old. He was stopped in Japan for something and showed that license, which is a no-no in Japan. He could not get a drivers license in Japan until 18 years old. He had to drop out of sight for a while to pay the social penalty of contrition. He always wears a band around his right upper arm. There is a rumor that it's to hide a tattoo and that would be a big, big problem, since only yakuza have tattoos. He wouldn't be able to play golf anywhere in Japan with a visible tattoo. Big, BIG problem. He was so good at such a young age. Maybe he started to think about it too much as he got older.
