D.J. level talent.  Too bad he drank too much and really lacked the self confidence to dominate.  His quote about what Jack was thinking at the Masters says it all.  Being from Ohio he idolized Jack.  I will say I enjoy playing his courses more than Jack's.  Tremendous talent, great architect, good career that could have been much better.

Watch this video of Elkington talking about Nicklaus' mentality.

He also talks about Weiskopf and Trevino's "weaker" mind set.

https://www.secretgolf.com/videos/vintage-vault/mental-game/mental-game--steve-elkington/nicklaus-never-blamed-himself-

Jack was famous for never remembering bad shots.  He erased them from his memory.  When sports writers would ask him about a bad shot he wouldn’t know what they were talking about, but he could recall great shots years later.  Jack was his own sports psychologist.

It's amazing isn't it?!

I loved how Nicklaus said he couldn't could have practiced harder than he did.

My favorite Larry Nelson story is the time that a reporter asked him about the intense pressure of playing in the US Open.  Nelson replied something something to the effect that playing golf was not pressure, pressure was walking the point in Viet Nam.

Underrated player: Bruce Lietzke

  • 7 Champions Tour wins including the 2003 US Senior Open
  • 1 Ryder Cup team

Thomas Pieters chalked up a win for team old school…

he has a beautiful move and between him and Niemann, I like the chances of a reverse c major in 2022…

Anyhow, his swing is spectacular and like a merger of Sean O’Hair and Vijay…

total feel player with a Tom Kite kind of thought process on the range..

very cool video of his thinking below when hitting range balls…

Found this beauty on the gram this morning. It's probably somewhere in the last 82 pages, but it's worth revisiting. Left to right: Hogan, Snead, Middlecoff and Nelson. Imagine that strolling up to your fourball scramble tourney....

Nice. An even better version:

he was awesome…very cool swing

Always comforting to look at a player's backswing over the decades as I get older myself. Often it gets shorter, but in the case of players for whom it doesn't, you can see the expression on their face change from determination to discomfort.

Don't need the best thread on wrx getting lost in all the drama - and thinking of golf history and some issues between players and tours over the years and how they were handled, I think of this guy as a . . . . leader who embodied what the terms means!

Edit:  lol, no idea that would come out as basically a thumbnail, sorry Seve!
