I agree. Great looking shoes, but if I'm dropping $750 it's not going to say FJ on them.

If they hadn't shuttered their US operations that made the FJ Premier Shoes several years back I would be more enthusiastic... I'm pretty sure that's where the props (sewing machine, forms, etc) came from that make them look like a hand made shoe as opposed to the production line in China that cranks them out.

Hand-made by an Italian artisan, right? Regardless, they felt significantly heavier than the classics in my closet, or the Ecco world class I've tried. You'll be dragging anchors out there.

The Footjoy factory was the last shoe factory in Brockton, MA, a town with a long a rich history in shoemaking. It was closed 9 years ago with 103 people being laid off. Now we have basically the same shoes coming back at 2x the price. And the footjoy factory offered the customer a lot in the way of customization both with the exotics line and just in the regular Classic leathers and styles. In the meantime, we've lost all the machines, know how, institutional knowledge, etc. that goes with the factory. A shame really. I hope that such shoes find a big enough audience to continue in the market.

 

The tour players were quite unhappy with the discontinuation of the Classics, as they were ubiquitous on tour. How many will now be wearing the 1857s???

 

I still wear the classics with the leather soles frequently, I could never stand the Tour sole. They weigh a ton. Apparently the Tour sole alone saved 8 ounces!

Would have been entirely reasonable to follow classics pricing with an adjustment for inflation. Pricing is way out of line IMO. I used to buy classics back in the day, but I'll pass on these without much thought.
