Puzzling that they made a 16.5 and it's not available to the public.

Common practice mate. All the standard models for tour boys are TC or tour spec depending on oem. Lie angle face angle and even headshape mods.

I guess. I didn't think Callaway did much of that though, I thought that was more of a TM thing with tour issue heads, and variances in shapes. I could understand it if it were some sort of niche club or something that few would buy. But there's a pretty clear gap in their retail lineup, odd to see what could fill it be made, just not apparently abundant or sold retail.

That said I do really like the 18* I have, but would have liked to test it vs a 16.5 or something. Unfortunately I cracked mine on Saturday, already. 2 range sessions and halfway through a round I looked down and tried to wipe away a blade of grass, but it wasn't grass, rather a crack behind and parallel to the top line. Can't really tell if it's the crown or just the clear coat, but something isn't right there. Calling Callaway this morning. :(

Just replaced my Epic SZ 13.5 (tee shots were fine, but off the deck wasn't consistent for me) with a standard Rogue 15 and the HZRDUS Yellow 75g shaft (it is actually yellow in color). Not too much experience with it yet, but first testing off the deck is promising (I rarely hit a wood off a tee). First feeling is 'forgiving' - (Almost) everything I hit is at least reasonable. The face at address is obviously more closed than the Epic SZ - to the extent that I am thinking, it's closed, open it a big. Having said that, I haven't noticed any particular left flight tendency - and my miss is left. Loading and unloading of the shaft is smooth through impact. For me this club is about confidence on narrow fairways. The Epic SZ 13.5 may be longer on perfect shots, but I didn't get enough of those with it (ditto M2 tour 15*). Looking forward to the season.

Cheers,

David

How is the rogue sz off the deck. Considering 13.5. Easier than original sz?

Yeah, same here. Literally only about 30 balls on it when I noticed it. But Callaway is really good about it, replacement already on the way.

Does Callaway have even flow black 85 in the fairway as a stock shaft?

There was talk that they have the Even Flow black as an option, but it's backordered. You might have to call, but I don't think 85 was an option, I thought only 65 and 75.

Yes, you just have to have the store you're working with call in the order. I just placed an order for the 13.5* SZ with the Even Flow Black 85X yesterday. No word yet on if it's backordered. However, when I had the store call on Saturday, the person that answered said they have them and there's no upcharge.

So, just got a call from GG and apparently the Even Flow Black 85x isn't an option to be ordered. So now I have to decide if I want to move forward, and if I do...with what shaft.

My 15* with evenflow should be here tomorrow, also have 7, and 9g weights coming, like everything to play heavier.

I am skeptical it can beat my gamer, but good deal, need to experience the jailbreak in the fwy.

I have hit my Rogue SZ fwy 2 times on the range and 5 or 6 times on the course. It is hard for me to really say much this early in the season. What I can say is that it looks nice, sets up well behind the ball, has a nice feel at impact, tends to fly alittle higher than my other 3 wood. It has been too cold and fairways to wet for me to assess distance at this point. They Synergy shaft may not be a good fit for me, so I may have to change this out. Promising, but need more time with it.

I had the place I ordered my rogue sz from ask about a 5 gram weight. Callaway denied them, which I think is a crap move, considering everything on Callaway's website says the rogue sz has a 5 gram weight. I am purchasing a 5 gram weight though anyway.

I played a M2 tour before this rogue sz. The M2 tour was very long when hit, and very short when not. It was like the SLDR driver for me, some of my longest and shortest hits. The difference in distance was pretty big. The rogue sz seems to be so forgiving I can't always tell when I kill it or miss it.

That was my big issue with the Epic SZ driver. Couldn't tell where I was hitting it. Flushed shots felt bad but flew well, shots off center but on the jailbreak bars felt great but flew more awry. So bizarre. From what little I've experienced thus far, the feel is better with the Rogue fairways. Flushed shots feel awesome, shots just off center feel great as well but I can tell I missed it, yet they still fly extremely well.

Replacement 18* SZ came in today, 3 days after talking with Callaway. They're good.

anyone playing the 85 Hzrdus Yellow 6.5 Flex? Does it feel whippy or overly soft, or launching too high?

6.5.... HZRDUS yellow......whippy? I’m guessing you are either a complete animal or you’ve never tried one before?

Ill be honest I didn't expect to see this in a thread

Only on Golfwrx, where the average swingspeed is 135... with a 6 iron.

Woods/Fairways:  Callaway with Mitsubishi shafts

Irons:  Srixon with Dynamic Gold shafts

I've got the HZRDUS Yellow 85 6.5 in my 18* SZ. Driver SS is about 110 and it feels just about right to me. I don't think I'd describe it as soft or whippy, but I also wouldn't say it's the most demanding x-flex I've ever played. It launches fairly high, that's probably due to the loft I'm playing, but without the ability to swap shafts and see side by side I cannot give a definitive answer on that.

Edit: I will say I've hit the HZRDUS yellow in the past and it felt like rebar. But those were Taylor Made builds and only later came to find out about their tipping methods which were likely the culprit for the feel.

I have the 85 6.5 yellow in 15 degree, it's tipped one inch, and it is not whippy...I think that is the stiffest stock offering actually.
