Agreed winter rates are nuts. But with demand likely to be through the roof again this season better buckle up. I’m sure summer rates will be up across the board too.

If demand stays like this and tee sheets continue to sellout instantly...its going to get real expensive.

Opening up the border and regaining access to the US courses near the border would help ease the demand I think.

^The rates these places charge mid winter in sub-optimal conditions is taking the p155.

Haven't played since the ice bowl rounds at SES and those were $60-something IIRC.

@Phireside - Redwoods out of season? C'mon now 😋

I do know better, but when you hadn't played in a few weeks and you get an unexpected text from a pal with a prime tee time, I couldn't resist.

Oh for sure. I think it'll be a little less nuts than last year but prob not by much. I've been fortunate though so I can't complain.

Same here, and I’m part of the problem. Largely working remotely since last March so I golfed more last year than I have since high school!

Takaya is the lesser of two evils. Been a few times now.

Wow. I only went to Takaya-once- several years ago when I tried out a G400 driver when they came out. On loan from Peak Golf when they were still in NVan.  Never been to the other one.

Very sad the recent goings on in your new neighbourhood.

@myspinonit Yes, terrible stuff the past week here. Hope it returns to sleepy hollow soon.

Takaya is not that bad of a range physically.  270 to the back, nice wide and reasonably appealing visually. Could use some better signage (larger yardage boards) and maybe a few more flags, has nice grouping of trees as a backdrop. By contrast, Seymour is like hitting in to a mud pit with a scrap yard at the back.

So far the mats I've used at Takaya have be serviceable and had tees of usable lengths. The balls at both are absolutely trashed and of various mix and feel. I hit a couple yesterday with the driver that caused a sound so loud I thought my driver head exploded.

If Takaya got better or at least uniform mats and started mixing in new balls, I'd have little to complain about.

I suspect we will not be playing across the border for a while.

Every private club's membership is full and almost all of them now have waitlists.

Some private clubs have very long waitlist.  At our club the Board has frozen any new members.

Public courses are jammed up and charging high rates to reflect the demand.

WTF I thought golf was dying.

I suspect the demand is just a COVID blip and things will get back to normal with most preaching the death of golf.

But who knows.

I'm seeing slippage on social distancing on the courses and I've seen the marshalls at the Vancouver public courses starting to be  more  proactive nicely addressing it with players.  Let's all also be proactive too addressing it in our foursomes both for safety and  that  it would be a PITA if golf got shut down again.

Swaneset today at noon for a single $85 for either the Resort or Links.

Great to see they can charge at a rate that allows them to make some money.

Not sure how long it can last though.

I played Links as a member's guest on the weekend. $62. I thought that was a good deal. Course in OK shape. Greens very shaggy though. Bridge from 1st tee/to 18th green in down. Not sure the story there, but you have to get to 1st tee by way of driving range and walking across the 18th fairway. Tee being set up at the start of the fairway now. get to 18th green the same way along the range's edge.

Played Swan Resort yest for full summer rate and what a rip. Unintentional cart paths around almost every green, greens with little divots everywhere, no grass around a bunch of the greens.

I guess that's what crazy demand, unprecedented amount of winter play and no managing traffic around the greens and no grass growth in the winter will do. Will not go back for a couple years at those rates.

West Coast Golf Group has really jacked up the rates.

I used to play Swaneset late twilight often for under $20 with a Redbook 15% off discount and finish 18 holes.

I just glanced on Sat....Hazelmere has a GREAT DEAL.....$85 green fee at 3:57pm.....LMAO

^Top pic looks like 16 on SES Links? Absolutely the result of no let up through the winter with people taking their carts there and playing bunker shots like someone in your pic is about to do 😉

Especially with greasy winter surfaces everyone would be taking similar paths with those carts. With their never close policy even a week of rain won't give them a chance to tidy up. They are going to be absolutely chewed to bits this season.
