Lil tease of my set. Took a long time to get, but we’ll worth the wait. Like nothing I’ve ever played and instantly made my Mizzys obsolete. 

 

Incredibly surprised at my new found ability to hit low nippers with this  NCW 58 degree. Unreal.

Question without reading through the whole thread...

 

Anyone ordered a short set of clubs with just the lofts, not numbered?  Something like a 56*, 50*, 9-7-5 irons?  I was just thinking it'd be fun to have a sweet little set of blades for old-school carry duties.

I drooled over NCW images for a long time, and after a lot of planning and emailing got these in recently.

I went with 6* loft gaps from 23-47 (essentially 1.5 club steps) and Patrick helped advise on length/lie according to my specs. I was looking for something between my Miura Baby Blades and a Titleist CB and think they came out great and look forward to getting them dirty. Engraving wise I was going for a family heirloom set to pass onto my son or daughter...probably son 🙂 The sole is our family name, a la older Macgregor style, and the muscle are family nicknames; Hosel DW for Don White and the lofts; Modus 120S and Tour G grips.

I like the way you mixed different muscle backs into the set. "Bobbi" and "Jie Jie" are nice, but I really love the muscle pad on "Sebito" and "Billy Charles".

Wow!  Along with the Rolex, I can't think of better heirlooms to pass along to the future golfer in the family!!  Fairways and greens, friend.

@FairwayFred my apologies if I missed it, but does NCW have any plans to release a more mass produced type iron like Scratch did with the EZ-1 or something to that affect? I love the understated looks but I'm afraid to ask for a quote LOL

Patience my friend. I ordered last April (2020) and as of mid April (2021) they were in Don’s hands.

Have you been in contact with Patrick and Ari? I was told 2-3 weeks a month ago but I also have a pretty standard buildout (combo set - Small CB + Machine Milled blades) so hopefully it'll be soon? If its another 6 months out that's going to be pretty disappointing as it'll be in the middle of winter but oh well

It’s been a couple months but I’m not in a hurry either. Between work, life, and constant rain, I won’t be playing this year.

Irons have arrived! Currently being built out and should have them tomorrow! Was able to see them yesterday and they are gorgeous

I'm sure this has already been answered in the thread, but haven't had a chance to review fully, so apologies if this is duplicative. 

 

These clubs look amazing to me, and my Apex Pros (early version) are beginning to show signs of wear. I've been toying around with idea of new clubs and have always been incredibly impressed by NWC. However, would love the feedback of someone who's gone from a club like the Apex Pro to a handmade, forged iron. The Apex Pro aren't exactly shovels, but they're certainly more "tricked up" than a club as pure as these. For reference, I'm a low single digit handicap who has a good, but not great iron game, so my concern is I'm not good enough to play these. 

 

Based on my research, sounds like NWC has plenty of options to design clubs right for your game, but would still appreciate any anecdotes for those who've made the transition and how their game has trended since the change. Would also appreciate any details on how you built the club (e.g., lower CG, etc.) to fit your good, but not superior ball striking.  

 

Lastly, I know a combo set is an option, which may solve for some of this, but the ego in me would love to go muscle-back throughout because it feels more true to art of NWC.

Ari, Patrick, and Don absolutely knocked it out of the park with these. 4-6 CB and 7-G MB with Mitsubishi MMT 125TX and Lampkin ST+2 Calibrate grips. I was a bit concerned with going back to traditional lofts AND blades but so far distances have been pretty close vs my previous gamers (Cobra Forged Tec Black). The feeling when struck well is just so damn pure its hard to explain and the turf interaction with the DW grind is remarkable. I feel like it can finally take a divot again

Figured I'd lay out my experience and some tips for those considering taking the plunge

 

Process:

1. Consultation took ~3 weeks from first email to purchase. I would recommend spending some time on the Instagram determining the details of what you want like top line, offset, toe shape, and personalization (stamping, logo location, iron numbers, lofts, etc) It could have been faster on my side but Ari was incredibly patient. 
2. From purchase to delivery was just over 7 months. Patrick's communication was great throughout

Tips:

1. Plan ahead - The iron heads are going to take months to get. With how crazy the golf business is right now make sure you order shafts, grips, and ferrules (BBF&Co is Patrick's other company) lined up in the month or two before your heads arrive
2. Find a local shop (if you can). I was lucky to have a great local club builder that has worked with Scratch/NCW so I ordered shafts ahead of time and had the clubheads shipped directly to them to build out. Made the process really easy

Observations

1. The CB's really aren't that much bigger than the MB's - I went with a combo set to get some help at the top of the bag and I'll just say that they are almost indistinguishable from the MB's. The CB 4iron is tiny so if you are on the fence I'd start your set with a 5 iron

This thread. Woof. After I view it, I always want to jump on the phone with them. But then I remember that I'm a 12 and have no business playing irons like this (not a great iron striker and I need all the help I can get to get distance and trajectory).

Granted wedges are cheaper than a full iron set.

I just picked up a set of DW Scratch Bulletbacks to satisfy my desires, but the NCW’s just look so great!

One month update - Decided to let nature run its course with the raw finish and couldn't be happier. I love how no two irons look the same. Next step is to go over them with a bit of gun oil and steel wool 0000 (Patrick's recommendation) to clean them up a tad and lock the look in. Performance wise I couldn't be happier with the turf interaction and the feel when struck well is unlike anything i've ever hit - think Mizuno but a tad crisper. I came from Cobra Forged Tec Black (Players Distance) and haven't missed a beat even with the weaker lofts on these. I also cannot recommend the MMT 125 TX shafts enough.
