Staying in Burlington Area in July and was looking for course recommendations. I have played Green Mountain National and loved it but its a drive from Burlington. Any great public courses in the area that aren't $270 to play (Stowe Mountain Course)?

I played Williston golf club and found it enjoyable.

If you have a car it's a quick 45 minutes across the ferry to Adirondack Golf Course, and Bluff Point that's anywhere from $30-$55 depending if it's week days or weekends.

Reviving this thread as I am headed up to Lake Champlain next week around Willsboro, NY. Will be playing Adirondack Golf and Country Club as well as Westport. Have never played Adirondack but it looks like a *very* tight piece of property. Should be fun but looks like I will not be needing my driver unless I want to lose a sleeve of balls.

Vermont National was a lot of fun when I played it a few years ago as well if you're up by the lake.

How did you enjoy Adirondack?  Very interested in your thoughts!  I played there 7/17 while we were visiting family/friends in Plattsburgh.  I've played there many times including a cold day in late April '95 on the Saturday of our wedding.  It's always been a tight course with a fine layout.  Can be wet in spots negating any fairway roll and I totally agree that lost balls can and will happen there.  

 

Funny enough, I grew up less than a mile as the crow flies from the course and played HS hockey with the son who now I believe is the owner.  It was opened in 1990 and I graduated from HS in '81.

 

Looks like I was in the North Country 1 week before you...perhaps next summer our paths will cross.

It was delightful, actually! I have played in the adirondacks area several times so I know that conditions can be a bit spotty in places at all of those courses but I thought Adirondack G&CC was pretty good. A lot of interesting holes and required different shots and wasn't as tight as I thought it would be (didn't lose any balls). @NCLancer I agree the layout is very good and the only thing I would say is that there were some long gaps between holes that made it difficult to walk. It is definitely rustic so if someone is expecting high end conditions or amenities, that is not going to be it.  A few standout holes on the back and really just a tranquil walk in the woods. 

 

They had issues with 1-2 greens but didn't really impact playability. I would be happy to play there every summer I go up to Lake Champlain. I did hole out for eagle on 18 so that probably made me leave on a rather high note.

I am in Burlington.  The private tracks - Burlington Country Club and Vermont National - are the best.

 

If you are in Stowe, Stowe Country Club is a decent fun track and more accessible than the Stowe Mountain Course.

 

Unless you are driving an hour from Burlington that's what you got...
