I’m a little biased here as they’re fresh in my bag, but my TM 790’s are very forgiving to me. The only other forged iron I’ve ever had were some Mizzy JPX 900 forged and the 790’s are way more forgiving for me.

The 790s are way more forgiving than the JPX 900s? Would never think that. Which feel softer?

Myself, I am a different bird - I find that MB clubs are the most forgiving (whether forged or cast) ... I am currently dialling in a better shaft for myself and the best results, regardless of shaft, is always with a muscle-back head. I get better trajectory and spin numbers as well as ball flight and dispersion with MB heads over any of the forged or non-forged more forgiving heads.

Wow! I agree with you! It’s not the popular opinion. I feel like the more compact the club face the easier it is to find the sweet spot. I’m not saying it is a bigger sweet spot or more forgiving, but when I have a wide landscape like a hockey stick to hit the ball off of I am less precise.

Callaway XForged from like 2004-5-6. Those things were damn near impossible to mishit....thicker top line than I prefer in a iron but damn they performed.

The question was more forgiving....IMO, the 790’s are much more forgiving vs the 900F’s. As far as softer, this ones a little tougher and the line between sound and feel gets a little blurry...but the mizzys did feel softer...but center strike on both and i prefer the sound of the 790’s. Some would argue the p790s aren’t forged....I would be inclined to agree....but you don’t hit the ball with the muscle or the cavity or the sole...you hit it with the face and in that respect the p790 is forged...even if there’s goo behind the face. I respect players who can play a full on set of forged clubs, especially the blades; but where I’m at in my game, I need a little help and the p790’s have been very helpful in my game so far.

OP, don't get hung up on 'forged' clubs. Ping i200 and iBlades are very soft feeling. But to answer your question, AP2s, MP53 and MP5s are some forgiving forged for me.

I would agree the MP5 is pretty forgiving. Maybe not the most, but it is surprisingly easy to play. Some don’t like the larger profile in the short irons, but that helps too.

Most forgiving I personally have played would be the Nike VPC. Almost bought the JPX 900 Forged and found them quite fun. For this year, I believe the Wilson Staff C300 Forged may rate pretty well in this category.

I had the opportunity to hit the Apex MB 18 and X Forged 18 side by side a couple days ago and I found no difference in them. Both were PX 6.0 all standard out of the demo bag and I much preferred the MB. My misses towards the toe side were not as harsh as expected and not as severely punished as with other MBs. I realize results may vary and it could have just been a good day. It was a really nice surprise.

... WRX, the only place on earth folks will call MB's "the most forgiving forged iron". Thread is not what irons do you hit best or post your best scores using, but some here would claim a current MB has "the most perimeter weighting" you know when compared to MBs from the 60's.

Really is crazy how different people see/feel things differently. I went through a full fitting yesterday and hit the 790s and JPX 900 Forged back to back. Both felt great but I certainly wouldn’t say the 790s are more forgiving. No one is wrong here, it’s all our opinions but very interesting how we see things differently.

Spent an few hours yesterday at a green grass demo specifically to hit irons and some wedges.

Most Vendors were there, with the exception of Titleist (Flu)

I hit Cally, Mizzy, TM and Srixon.

For me the winner was Srixon 765's with the Modus 120. Great feel ( XForged a close second) good distance and fairly forgiving on mis hits, losing only a couple of yards distance and slightly off line. This according to Trackman, and my visual observation.

Wasn't able to hit the XForged with anything other than PX (come on Callaway, Make fitting heads for this model! ), which I hate, but at least the had it in 5.5 for my 82mph club head speed. Not as forgiving on mis hits, losing more distance than with the Z765s. Could have been the shaft, though. Hit the Rogue pros !( Not Forged, but they did feel pretty good! ) with PX LZ and Modus 105. Nice sticks.

Spent quite a bit of time with the Mizuno JPX 900 forged, Modus 120, 105 and PX LZ 5.5, but I struggled with consistency and their turf interaction, and they really don't have that Mizuno feel of the past.

Honerable mention - TM P770. Probable the best feeling forged iron they've put to since the RAC 300. Too bad they had crap for shaft selection at their tent. Literally 50 iron shafts, yet no Modus, or PX LZ.

So that was my experience as a 8ish handicap with the latest forged CB's out there.

Ordering some Srixons nest week.

Difficult to beat the TM P790 for forgiveness as well as the performance.

As the P790 has the same design as the PXG irons might try them as well.... "sweet spot the size of Texas".

Both would be my picks and yes I have tried both!

AP2 is forged? I thought they are partly forged — the 'chassis' is forged, which has nothing to do with feel, and then the club itself is multi-material with a steel face attached to it. And the OEM makes players think it is forged by writing 'forged' only on the portion of the club that is forged. It is a marketing play because they know so many players get hung up on forged vs cast.

They sure don't seem forged in the classic sense, as you would experience with a muscleback or true head forged from a single billet of steel.

AP2 has a forged face... in fact, the only parts that aren't forged are some insets in the cavity and the tungsten weights. Even you 965s that are coming are multi-material (tungsten toe weight in longer irons)

Also, the chassis forging absolutely makes irons softer. Go hit the Cally Apex or your 565 4-iron and you will feel that.

I agree, however, that one piece forgings are overall the softest.

I just looked it up. AP2 has a face insert. IMO, any club with a face insert is not forged. I will go along with it if the head is forged and they have co-forged tungsten weights in the toe and heel, as long as the head is a one-piece forging and that includes the face

Buf if there is a steel face inserted on to a forged chassis, that is not forged, that’s fake forged. Marketing does not make it forged and OEM’s don’t get to change the definition as they see fit.

The 718 MB is forged, the 716 CB (but not the 718CB) is forged. The AP2 is a steel face inserted on a forged body, and that is how they feel.

Let's face it, "forged" has lost its meaning.

Can the face be forged and the rest of it cast ?

Can the face be cast and the rest of it forged ?

And if they're different, is the club forged if any piece of it is forged ?

How about forged yet foam filled ? Tungsten inserted into the head ? :fie:

It used to mean it was a blade, one solid chunk of metal forged into a shape. Oh well, I used to hit it 350 in the air,,,,,,,,,,,, :cheesy:

Interesting. I did not know the ap2 face wasn't forged. I stand corrected.

No wonder. I've never thought the ap2 is that soft.

I'm shocked tbh.

I do still think a forged chassis softens up an iron, but the part contacting the ball makes the biggest difference.
