Most similar shaft to Nippon Super Peening Blue

Hello wrx friends,

 

After going through 4-5 different shafts, testing on course and with trackman, I settled on Nippon SPB X Flex. Have been playing them for a year or so now. They perform beautifully for me.

 

However, I want to get a backup set, but I really don't want to go through the trouble of getting another SPB set. Can someone recoommend shafts that they think are most similar to the SPB X flex? One that comes to mind is the C-Taper S+. I've tried the C-Taper 130 X Flex, and while they perform well, they feel like doo-doo.

 

Any other suggestions?

I’m a huuuge Nippon SPB fan. For me the low launch, mid spin, and great feel is something I searched for for a long time.

 

That being said, they’re expensive and difficult to find a deal on. My advice would be:

 

Throw a “Want To Buy” post up and I bet you have a set within a day

 

Or

 

Get some Dynamic Gold X100’s. They’re the closest thing I’ve found out of KBS, Nippon, True Temper, etc.

 

In reality though i’d just post a WTB and find a set for about $200 for 4-PW

I was also fit into SPB X flex at one point. Closest truly is the Modus 125 X flex. Followed by X100s...the 125x is right in between the two...c tapers perform like the spb but dont feel the same.

Golf theory is legit. I've ordered from them a couple times. Shipping takes about a week.

No issues at all, real deal.

I don’t want to make a broad statement that there is not, but from my transaction for these there were no additional fees.

Nothing plays close to the SPB's , but if I had to really pick one , it would be DG tour x7 ,soft stepped 1

Rakuten is great, bought two sets of irons. No tariffs no BS. Shipping is cheap too, is a Japanese site so is trustworthy :)

i've tried to order SPB from golftheory on rakuten twice now, and both times were cancelled. anyone getting the same thing?

Just happened to me exactly twice as well. I even tried diff payment options. Called and they are out of stock and asking for more

Because they most likely have long since ran out of stock. Just get the Nippon Modus 125 - practically the same shaft...

Some of the Modus prototypes IMO were SPB-ish. C10, 2S14 and E11 in stiff flex are SPBish. In X-flex they are a little more stout even I think. ORAs are similar to Super Peening Orange which is just a touch softer shaft. I currently play ORA X.

Reading a review on the golfshaftreviews website, it sounds like the Modus 125 would be closest:

 

"As I measured these shafts I compared them to the Modus3 product line. I just published a review of the new Modus3 Tour 125. I quickly realized the **Modus3 Tour 125 is so similar to the Super Peening Blue**, it is hard to tell them apart. While they are both designated 125g shafts, the new metallurgy used in the Modus3 shafts resulted in the same shaft about 5 grams lighter. All else is virtually identical. If you played the Super Peening Blue in the past, you should be accustomed to the feel and performance of the new Modus3 Tour 125."
