Help me find a Putter

Alright,

I am in the market for a putter. Here is what I know. When I had my stroke measured my stroke falls somewhere between straight back straight through and slight arc. I have roughly 3* of arc. When I used a large mallet that’s face balanced I have a tendency to pull putts.

Right now I am using a center shafted patter with 45* of toe hang and things just don’t feel right. Any recommendations? My handicap fluctuates between 2-6 depending on the time of year.

Sound like you need a CIRCLE T putter

On a serious note, if my memory serves me right.... I think it was Dustin Johnson or Jason Day that has a similar stroke like yours? I would think a face balance would work very well bu I know you mention you have trouble with face balance putters.

Do you know for sure your "pulling" the putt, Ie: I know you mentioned having a video done. Reason I ask as I struggle with face balance putters honestly and years back had a video done and it was showing I close the toe down while putting (did not matter which type of putter either...just how I putt) So it was either work hard on the stroke with face balance or stick to the Studio Stainless..... still playing Cameron's today.

Have you tried looking at face balance putters with the weights.... know it seems rather odd but I know someone who bought one and changed the weight on the toe so the toe just hung a few degrees and helped a lot... like crazy how it helped him. If you still have the face balance putter pick up some lead tape and put it out on the toe and see what it does.

Another friend picked up an Evnroll putter, going to be honest thought it was gimmick....but he is putting lights out with it.

Ok.

Read and understand what I'm saying. More than any club in the bag, the way you put the face on the ball is so very very personal.

I.e. Rife have thick grooves, yes putters c grooves. Some have metal inserts, some flat elastic polymer ones. .the list is endless. Some will suit your action, some not..arguably more important than anything regarding the putter for you.

So, with that in mind you must MUST have a Sam lab or Quintic assessment/fitting.

I went for a 2 hour session with an open mind.

For me The Odyssey X grooves (with the metal) hated my putting action...every 3rd or 4th putt inexplicably rolled an additional 15%.

The Scotty Cameron showed very neutral spin virtually no top spin.

Evnroll....didn't!

For me, out of 8 or 9 putters tried one club performed wonderfully for me. The new Ping Sigma insert loved me. Identical stats on each and every putt.

We hit 13 or 14 drivers a round but twice that with a putter.

IF EVER IT WAS A GET FIT SCENARIO, THIS CLUB IS IT

I do intend on a fitting but was curious as to what would help a person like me. I am certain on the putt being pulled as I set up and do gated set up with an eyeline mirror. I wasn’t sure if I needed a putter with more toe hang to,assist in the face opening more on my backstroke or what would best assist me.

The original Scotty Cameron Futura mallet is a large, face balanced putter that sits open at address,

BUT from the Cameron Archives

The Futura has a unique weight distribution with 75% of the weight being in the stainless “horseshoe” and 25% being in the face and body. This combination of balance allows the Futura to perform like no other putter we had ever tested. The ball rolls immediately off the face of the putter without ever digging into the green. The sole was designed so the putter never closes when setting up to the ball and the top-line is shaped for a contoured look. In late 2003, two sightlines were added to the top flange of the body for better visuals and ease of alignment. Finally, two plugs have been milled into the back of the face and stainless weights have been applied to create even more stability and give the putter that solid sound and feel.

I used it for three years with a similar stroke - SBST intent and a slight arc result - and the putts didn't pull. Another advantage was that the most forward of the three cutouts on the body held the SBST line while the rest on the body turned on the shallow arc. Finally, the 25/75 weight distribution ratio also encourages a straight path.

On the other hand..it looks terrible, feels light (maybe 340g headweight at 34" length) though there are aftermarket weight kits that are easily installed and you must keep the horseshoe-like tail end off the ground. And I didn't like the sound of putts coming off aluminum.

I have been fitted at a few OEMs and they have all said I need more toe hang due to pulling my putts. Sounds like Spider Tour type, something with a slant neck. Ping Sigma Shea H or Tess maybe? #9 style putter or #2?

Is that total rotation or just backswing?
