Course: Champion Course at PGA National Resort and Spa from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. Par 70, 7150 yards

72-Hole Record: 264 by Justin Leonard (2004)QUOTE

I find it interesting that one of the shortest hitters on the PGA tour holds the course record here. Just shows it's not all about distance.

TX wind ball helps I'm sure...Trevino said it all the time. Hit it close to the ground and go find it.

Smylie Kaufman with a solid 83. 41/42.

Let the thread begin..."Can a 4 HCDP beat Smylie Kaufman?"

Well, we had pages and pages of if a scratch could break 85at Augusta, and some were saying Augusta is basically rated close to 80. So I figured out four might have a chance at 82 there in Florida.

These announcers can't stop gushing over Adam Scott's swing. Am I the only one that isn't a fan of it? It's nothing special. Doesn't look too good to my eye. Boring swing.

It's the most fundamentally sound golf swing there is. Repeatable. Who said swings need to be exciting?

It's crazy to think that Smylie Kaufman has a win. He shoots more rounds in the 80's than anybody going right now.

Andrew Loupe begs to differ

is he playing today? IIRC someone said he had to shoot a bunch of 60s. Quickly. to retain his status.

He did a little work with the instructor George Gankas last week at Riv and he wasn't striking it as well as he tried to implement some posture changes. Not sure if he is still trying that this week?

Lol, I am. Not directed at you...more about the notion in general. He certainly has the tools but has fallen off lately. That girl...got him off his mental game I guess. You know what they say...undefeated.

It's like throwing away a perfect diamond. Last week they mentioned him wanting to rotate more...for some reason.

Sound and repeatable/effective...sure. But the announcers were talking about aesthetics. Aka the way it looks. Nothing about how it performs. I don't find Adam Scott's swing aesthetically pleasing.

Big improvement from Tiger today - the 7/14 fairways and 10/18 greens don't do his round justice, as several of these misses were only just off the fairway or on the fringe of the green. More good shots today than at Torrey or Riviera, but more importantly his misses were far less severe, one wide left and one wide right with the driver aside.

Other Pros - 2 iron swing off the tee is looking gorgeous, short game is tight (bunker game might need a bit of tightening up but not much), swing tempo looked much better today, especially on a few nicely knocked down wedges and short irons.

Cons - Par 5 scoring! I'm pretty sure TW has a mental block on par 5s these days, as he seemingly hasn't played them well at all for a few years now. I get that he's either been injured or playing badly since 2014, but even in comparison to par 3 and par 4 scoring this has become a big issue. It's not just a case of not making enough eagles and birdies, but he's frequently making 6s and the occasional 7 on these holes. I think that now he's not one of the absolute biggest hitters out there, he puts more pressure on himself to still take advantage of the par 5s, which seems to tighten him up and result in worse scoring. Even in his comeback at the 2016 Hero, which was a big success overall, that was his downfall that week.

There's an old saying in golf that for everyone sad about the 82 you shot there's someone who wishes it was an 83. IRT to Andrew Loupe I'm in the latter camp.

looks tough out there today, E par is T21 so far.

Haven't been able to keep up much at work. I thought I remember someone mentioning it was very windy. Is that right? Were the pins tucked away?

Also Ted Potter Jr. hasn't played well lately - MC in six of the ten tournaments he's played this season, is in danger of another (+7), and his only top 10 was his win at Pebble. What sort of game do we play that allows this?
