WGC Mexico

Anybody get the feeling that during the closing holes that maybe Thomas iced himself? He was sitting in a luxury box or something just watching while Fowler explained PMI to him. It's one thing to take a breather but I expected him to go out and stay warm and keep his head in the game. Maybe he was thinking nobody else would get to -16?

So who was the guy they kept showing on the range and then putting up until Phil was done?

Phil smartly played the 18th tee as he should have keeping the ball in the fairway. That has been my complaint all along about him, when the pressure gets on he makes the bad decision. Today he made a fantastic decision and won the tournament. Maybe he has read some of my posts and the strategy within them.

I'm beginning to think that you don't even play golf.

One of the greatest shots in the history of the game? Come on now, Dan Hicks, golf's history extends back beyond 2018.

One of the greatest shots to win at WGC, if he wins - yes it is.

And even then, Craig Parry's walk off to win at Doral is probably tops.

Well - he won!

And Justin simply had a lucky shot.

I don't believe you can say it was a "lucky" shot. Seen here, https://www.pgatour.com/stats/stat.339.html Justin Thomas wedge distance has improved throughout his young career. It had to be more than luck. From that distance, he likely wanted 4 feet or less.

A great weekend of golf made even better without the JS knobslobbing. With Tiger back, Phil playing at a high level, and greats like DJ and JT at the peak of their powers we are in for a highly entertaining season. Just missing Rory. Hopefully watching all of this gives him a kick in the a**.

Missing Hideki, Stenson, and Fowler too. If we can get all these guys playing their best (and healthy) over the next month, the hype for Augusta will be insane.

I believe I already did! ;-)

And you claim he was wanting 4 feet or less, not trying to jar it - lucky!

Jonathan Byrd's hole in a playoff in Las Vegas a few years back is way up there as well. Parry's walk off at Doral wasn't a WGC event.

Oh yeah, I forgot Parry's was at the NEC Invitational and that hole out was to win the "Ford Championship at Doral."

if all the Spieth haters can call his walkoff holeout bunker shots "Lucky" then this one certainly was luckier...

I have a friend who has made about 5 aces on par 3's over the past twenty years. He says that hitting it close is skill, holing it is luck. I think I agree with that logic.

If winning was easy, losers would do it.

Phils drive is going right, across the path and into the trees

But never fret, cause this is phil, you never know the shots that he sees

He was born with wedge in hand, for him no situation is ever doomsday

He'll flip the wedge, then make the shot

And do it his way ; )

Just a thought here but now that Basic has put Phil and Frank side by side I think this opens the door for Ferguson to speak of Mickelson/Sinatra ties to organized crime and general nefarious activity.

First let me dab the tears from my eyes, folks. :)

What a great weekend of golf! Couldn't be happier for the great Phil Mickelson. And what a challenge from JT. He's a stud.

Chapultepec is a great tournament course. It's tight enough to present danger on nearly every hole, but plays short enough for many great scoring opportunities. That combination is sure to produce drama, and this event has been one of the top tournaments the last two years.

The return of Tiger and the reemergence of Phil has really ignited this TOUR season, and we're just getting warmed up, folks. :)

I wonder if Jack feels this course is obsolete because of the ball? ?
