Ok I never in my life will defend Ferguson but on one hole Phil was going for the hero shot and his ball literally went completely through a freaking coniferous tree, that just never happens.

Is that the one where he went high to a window that the camera didn't show? I think what really happened is that he went underneath the closest tree and then over the one a few yards away, the camera just didn't have a good angle on it.

It was a wedge over the tree. pretty standard for him. the camera angle was deceiving. He brushed a leaf or 2. lets not forget the bad break on the par 5 hitting a tree with his hybrid and having it go 45 yards sideways. Like 10 players hit those trees on sunday and they all dropped straight down which led to easy up and downs. thats tournament golf you need some good breaks to go your way like you know holing a 140 yard shot on the last hole...

Ive never seen so much " he got lucky inuendo talk" since spieth dunked his bunker shot last year.

Not a closet fan, and I don’t hate Phil. My problem is the image Phil represents to the public. In my opinion Phil cares most about Phil’s image. His affection for the fans seems "manufactured.". I suppose with that much sponsorship money on the table it’s “necessary” for him to carry on with this “pageantry.”

Mr. Palmer seemed more real around fans. He was a genuine human being.

Excellent post. I tend to agree. Phil has a little Eddie Haskell in him. Did you see Phil notice the on him camera Sunday and then launch into his "I'll sign later in broken Spanish" spiel. Lol. That cracked me up. He's figjam. Enough said.

You get it!! Finally, someone gets it!!

Thank you.

Gracias.

Neither of you get it. Phil is a showman, its called having an image and a way with your crowds and doing your part as an entertainer.

For reference:

Cool Whip is a brand of imitation whipped cream referred to as a whipped topping by its manufacturer, Kraft. It is used in North America as a convenience food. It does not have the same flavor and texture as whipped cream, and it costs nearly 50% more.

true fact about Mr. Palmer; but many on this site were never around to witness his awesomeness

There are two sides to every story. Arnie's daughter recently came out in an interview saying how strained her relationship was with him. Basically saying his public image was not the one she saw at home...and she didn't appreciate it one bit, very bitter it seems. There are many rumors about other activities Mr. Palmer participated in that were not related to golf and that would have made Tiger proud. Is Phil an angel? Obviously not, but his daughter may think he is the greatest guy in the world, and I am sure that is more important to him than golf, or his public persona. I could be wrong.......but let's not think we really know these people...if we really don't know them.

Yeah its like nobody watched Seve play in his prime... What phony he was...

Was Tiger not a showman fist pumping every putt and riling up the crowd?

I used to think the same about Phil as Fergie but what changed my mind was reading a few books about Phil all the way from when he was a kid. He idolized Arnie and has made no bones about wanting to be like him since he was very young. Also his interaction with fans even during the final few holes of a tournament impresses the hell out of me. It doesn't matter if he's missing the cut or has to make birdie on the last hole to win, he still is fist bumping spectators going to the next hole between the ropes. Freddie Couples said today Phil is the only player he knows who will stay and sign for often times up to 2 hours after a tournament. Win or lose! If Freddie say it, I'm taking it to the bank. He also said when it comes to loving the fans Phil is a 10 and everybody else is an 8.

Yes, there are two sides – not only with Phil after winning this event on Sunday, but with everyone. In pro golf, we see only the “public persona.” Most don’t know or understand the personal lives of pro golfers, and why would we? The same thing exists with us, the non-celebrities of the world. Those of us in professional positions have a professional persona at work and a relaxed one at home.

The same thing goes for some people that post their unfounded claims of knowing certain professional golfers in order to (and I am guessing here) provide some sort of substance or foundation to their personal opinions, almost as if their opinions can’t stand alone simply as an opinion.

My opinion of Phil is simply that, an opinion.

Your opinion is the only one based on unfounded claims. I met Phil in the parking lot of Greyhawk in Scottsdale during the offseason, no camera's around, just me basically invading his personal time to ask for an autograph. He could have been what you constantly assume he is when he isn't in the spotlight and he would have had the right to be, but he wasn't. Not only did I get an autograph, I got a sincere conversation about my vacation, the course that day, and the upcoming tour season. Equally so, a member of my club played a Monday pro-am with him when no cameras were rolling. He could have been cold and distant like many pro's have been reported to be during Monday pro-am's, but once again he wasn't. He was as sincere and friendly as he presents himself to be when he's in the spotlight. Why don't you just admit you're wrong - because there is quite a cross section of evidence on this site and beyond that says your opinion is simply not true. Actually, why don't you do us one better. Don't admit you're wrong, just take your little "Don Rickles act" and peddle it in other threads.

If you recall technically it wasnt a walkoff. Norman had a chip to tie.Still though I get your point. I swear Norman must have pissed off a somebody in a past life.Tways bunker shot if it didnt hit the flag was going 6-7-8 feet past. Norman must have felt good walking up to the green seeing tway short sided like that. great times. the saturday slam!! insane golf.If a few things go his way he wins 5 straight majors. crazy
