Thought I might revive this thread, went down to Barnbougle for a weeknd at the beginning of August. Was in Brisbane for work and tacked this trip onto the tail end of it before heading home. I am not a spiritual person but my four rounds there were as close as ive come to a religious experience. Cannot beatthe price (at least compared to the states) for the quality of golf you get. Could not recommend it more

Totally agree, fantastic experience. We’re going back next year. I also love the Mornington Peninsula, you can’t drive 5 minutes without hitting an awesome golf course.

the short answer is depends, if you only enjoy playing in warm, shorts tshirt weather then yes. If you are ok with the potential for rain low 50s and some wind then you are good to go. Someone from Tasmania or an aussie correct me if im wrong but temps might dip towards or below freezing during the winter at night but during the day it would be pretty rare to see anything that cold as barnbougle is right on the coast. the most difficult thing to deal with is how much weather can change from forecasts and even throughout the day, if youre going to go you just have to accept that there is no way to have a real good idea of how the weather will be until youre there.

I will say if the cost/time to take the trip is feasible for you then 100% do it, a very cool unique experience

I have been 5 times and 3 of those were in winter. The staff and locals will tell you that it's a great time to visit. You can have the course to yourself. There is often less wind and clear days. Sure there are some really bad days but they say it isn't as windy as summer. We never had unplayable weather and it only rained for about 9 holes out of about 9 winter rounds. It is cold overnight but days between 10-15c (50-60f). It does help to see how the forecast is though.

i prefer the cold ... i walk here in alabama from oct to early june, and even if it's 40 or so outside, i wear shorts, golf shirt and vest ... that's it ... two gloves for a bit, but walking heats you up quite easily ... and i'd rather be cold than hot ... hot takes a toll (have never liked South's heat) ... the impression i've gotten is what you two have mentioned ... it's probably quite cold a time or two and can get that way at night, but being on the coast mitigates that and the weather can be quite enjoyable for a walk ... and as snakes generally enjoy warmer weather, i have a lower level of worry about being bitten by a monstrously poisonous viper, though being able to brag about that menace does have its merits ... the cost is very feasible, esp since it's the AD vs the USD, and i can stay whatever length i need to stay ... will look hard at a trip in 2020, with competition from ireland ... australia/nz has really gotten my interest in the past two months for some reason ...

oh buddy you woud love it then. im the same way and it was mid 50s when I went in august; to me perfect walking weather. you are right about the price (in terms of golf and staying there) it is absurd how cheap it is given the quality of golf and lodging compared to something here in the states. flights really aren't that bad either to be honest, granted my airfare was covered through having to travel for work but my flight was only around $1,100.

only other advice I would offer is to give yourself a day or two to explore Melbourne on your way in or out or Launceston in Tasmania. Wish I could have but didn't have the time. happy to answer any questions in a PM about Barnbougle especially traveling there from the states

i'd probably go over for 3 weeks ... i teach, so summers are off ... see what i can get in melbourne and sydney, far as top 100 go ... then tasmania and king's island ... then nz ... few days off here and there ... airbnb it if not at a resort ... might just make it a month ...
