Did Jessica Korda Have Plastic Surgery?

Big Ben

Recommended Posts

I just googled it and found the answer, she had major jaw surgery due to headaches or something. She has screws in her face, that would answer my question!

I don't know, BB; all I'm sure of is that 3-wood she hit today to 2 feet on 18, leading to an eagle, was a thing of absolute beauty.

That was a sick shot! Both the Korda's have game

Just read about the surgery. Had to break her nose, upper jaw, and lower jaw. Yikes!

I had a similar surgery in 2000. Had to widen my upper palate and were later going to do my lower jaw too. After wearing braces for 3 years they did the upper jaw. Split the upper jaw from my skull and then split that part in half. It was all supported by a cross piece attached to the braces. One week after the surgery I turned a screw in the cross-piece and it ripped apart the already healing jaw to create the proper separation in my upper palate. They gave me a little allen wrench and told me to turn it 14 times. Didn't say it was going to hurt like I had stuck a screwdriver into my ear.

A year later they were going to cut my lower jaw apart and move that too. I bailed on that procedure when my orthodontist said I likely could do without it. I wasn't looking forward to eating food that came out of blender for 2 months and the risk that I could have permanent nerve damage since the lower jaw work was really close to major nerves.

Surprisingly, other than a few early days, it's not painful. The grossest part about it is the dissolving stitches. I had about 100 in my mouth and when they break down it is totally disgusting. That and the drooling. You lose a little nerve sensation and you occasionally drool if you don't pay attention.

I've got to give her credit for doing it all at once.

Crazy question here but man she looks WAY different to my eye...BB

I agree I watched her interview after the round and she does look way different to me. Her overbite is gone and her cheeks aren’t as puffy. Looks good.

I read that her mother had to make pureed food for her for quite a while. She still can't feel her face, which must be a strange sensation, but she's relieved to be free of the terrible headaches she used to have. The surgery did realign her face somehow.

While it’s weird now because a lot of small nerves were cut, it’s even weirder later when you aren’t expecting it and the nerves start working again.

It’s a massive difference. Changed the entire structure of her upper and lower jaw. Now she looks more like her younger sister.

Boy that sounds rough. Props to you for sticking it out and getting through it.

Same to Jessica. Her ordeal sounds really tough. It would be really cool if she got a major this year.

Married to Callaway Clubs but I cheat with Nike Clubs on occasion.

From what I read, her exaggerated overbite was causing all sorts of problems such as migraines, sleep apnea, and only using 20% of her teeth when eating. She wore braces for a long time in an effort to correct the issue with minimal results.

She underwent surgery which required breaking her nose, upper jaw and lower jaw. She now has something like 27 screws in her head/face.

Jess does look very different now. She and Nelly look much more alike, I think.

She seemed very happy and well adjusted in her post round interview and shot a course record that day. She stated in the interview that she still could not feel much of her face. I hope that is something that will improve over time.

Take some credit, yourself. That's sounds horrible. Hope you're feeling fine, now and the surgery corrected what it was supposed to correct.

No more TMJ and I've only had to do crowns on 2 molars and I've still got my own teeth. My TMJ was minor but they predicted I'd likely eventually break every molar (my older brother has had 5 crowns/root canals). Even asked if just getting dentures would be easier, but they said I would break every plate they could use. My oral surgeon was really good, but really pissed when I said I wasn't going to do the lower jaw. Turned out to be a good decision.

Jessica likely was off the charts in pain prior to the surgery so this is a huge improvement in quality of life for her. I was too much of a weeny to have my jaw wired shut for 2 months and eat everything via a blender. I'm surprised she didn't lose more weight. I lost 20 lbs and never was wired shut. I'm considered that option a few times in the last few years. ;)

Sooooo......it’s basically like she got her face smashed in with a sledgehammer and then rebuilt with 27 screws and plates.

That sounds perfectly hideous. She must have been suffering terribly to voluntarily to go through that hell.

Golfweek has a good article on the pain she was in.

She could have a breakout year. She's really good and now playing without pain. The Korda sisters could be the players the USA has been looking for to stem the Asian dominance.
