Help with shaft options in my M3 Driver

I recently purchased the new Taylor Made M3 driver with 10.5 degrees of loft. I currently have a Black Tie M3 X-flex shaft in this driver and I am really ballooning and hitting this driver too high. I have 2 other shaft choices I can drop into this driver, but need some expert opinions on which one. I have a Fujikura Atmos Black 7X and a Graphite Design Tour AD TP 7X shaft I could use. (Only issue is I have to remove the Callaway adapters and install a Taylor Made adapter. Which one of these shafts will help me achieve the lowest launch? Or is my Black Tie M3 lower than the Graphite Design and or Atmos Black?

Thanks,

David

If you’re ballooning tee shots then you probably want to drop loft too. How do you have the weights set up?

I have them set up front and have the adapter set to 9 degree but the initial launch is sky high. My Callaway Rogue Sub Zero is 9 degree and I have to add 1 degree of loft on that driver to get a good height. (Speeder 757 Evolution in my Sub Zero). I thought if my Atmos Black or GD AD TP would lower my launch and ball flight, (over my Black Tie) then I would get the adapters changed and give it a shot. Thanks

FIRST thing you have to do is check face impact position. Use foot powder spray, impact tape, or something similar. Do NOT depend on 'feel' and assume you are getting good impact.

If the impact is the issue and you are not getting consistent center face contact, then playing length too long is the most likely culprit. Tee height and ball position are a few other things that can potentially influence the impact position. Just realize that any impact issues MUST be addressed and fixed first before you start looking at any other aspect of launch and spin.

If the impact is good, then the problem is really a swing problem - delivering too much loft into impact (club head too far ahead with respect to the hands at impact). Sometimes equipment changes can help a little but don't expect miracles. Less loft is the obvious solution and generally the most effective - but you generally only have a few degrees at most to work with so hard to say if it will be enough or not. Can't get much lower launching shaft then the x-stiff black tie so the shaft stiffness profile is not the problem (which means changing shaft profiles will not likely be a viable solution). Changing shaft weight or swing weight might help - but you'll never know what that will do to the swing until you try.

Thanks for the feedback. My ball strike location on the head is good. I did put tape on the head to see. Maybe I will tip shaft and see if that helps, I'm not that aggressive through the ball, I'm usually 115-117 driver clubbed speed. I don't load the shaft too excessive with my tempo. Thanks for the advice.

Sounds more like a loft issue. The loft on drivers can be +-1.5 degrees so the 10.5 on your driver might not be accurate. Might be worth finding someone that can measure it for you.

Maybe just experiment with tee height and/or tee position before trying different shafts. I've lowered my launch by bringing the tee an inch or two away from my front toe.
