I don't know the context, but I tried to look it up in her wiki page today. She said "They should lynch him in a dark alley". Hard to defend when not knowing said context. It was mentioned this is a common expression in the South and wasn't intended as it sounded(?). It's certainly not common in the circles I travel.

A common expression in the South?? I don't want to turn this thread into that direction, so I'll just post a link - take it how you will. She did get suspended by GC for a couple weeks.

Just repeating what I read. Certainly don't agree it is. Think I made that clear.

She was the face of the Golf Channel long before the fame hungry types we have now appeared. I liked her. Those of us who posted on the Golf channels forum back in the late 90's will wish her a fond farewell. And yeah that forum was a blast back then. Miss all the gang even those anti Tiger posters. Those were the years!

I am slightly distant from all of this in the UK but I genuinely had thought that she had left already. Sky has more and more coverage these days which is their own as opposed to using the US coverage so we see less and less from the booth these days and when we do she is never there.

I must say that I always had a bit of a soft spot for Kelly. When I was younger, and as a UK viewer, she just seemed glamorous when back then we had Peter Allis, Alex Hay and a host of other older gentleman presenting our golf coverage so she was a world away from what we were used to seeing.

It's Lara Cromwell time. And you may have noticed that Paige McKenzie has settled in, is now married, and looks like a serious broadcaster at the moment. Those are the two that come to mind. They need a lot more female broadcasters. The roster is by far outweighed by males and some just fail. I like the Champions tour and would watch a lot more if it weren't for Larry Watkins.

Paige McKenzie is an awful, emotional train wreck. Just no.

after 22 years, maybe she's just not enjoying it anymore. She made a good living, is worth over $5 million. Why not just do what interests her, or maybe just enjoy life?

From her farewell note, I would deduce that leaving was not her choice. Usually when it is they will talk about what they want to do/plan to do instead.

My guess is that NBC/Comcast wants a fresh new face. They are always chasing after the younger demographic for ad revenue reasons.

Agreed. The top brass steered this ship but there had to be a catalyst. The timing is strange - we got Tiger's comeback and lots to talk about.

Maybe she's got mono?

Seriously, they should have found a place for her.

Reporter or something?

Only flaw with your logic is that people that get kicked out of their job

1) rarely write a 'thank you' note/article to the company that kicked them out

2) rarely have a choice as to when they leave.

There are certainly some unanswered questions - but not enough info to allow any accurate deductions either way.

But then, what fun is a thread if we can't start or spread unfounded and baseless speculations and rumors on the subject? :dntknw: ;)

lol - you really think they fired her? I know it people find it hard to believe some people do leave jobs and move unto new and interesting things but ummm.... millions do this . 22 years in a media organisation is a life time. The biggest shock is that she stayed there that long.

I said basically the same thing yesterday. I'm not sure about the last line of your post though. If you meant "before they let her go", she was capable, and very well connected it seems, so no, not a shock. If you meant "before she left of her own accord," not many people walk away too quickly from jobs that pay around $400,000 per year. So who knows, and really when you think about it, why do we even care? She was about as middle of the road a talent as a broadcaster can be. Nothing about her work ever stood out except for her longevity.

Good description of her. But that's a skill, too. You can't have a room full of Brandels.

Her "skills" were not outstanding but she got it done.

She was let go. I am glad to see they did it in a diplomatic way.

Never liked her. Really didn't like her after the Tiger comment.

the lynching one?? c'mon that was harmless. Don't be so damn sensitive. Jeez, it would have been a complete non story except for the obvious. there was not hate or discrimination behind it. She was just turning a phrase and possible picked the wrong one. i have been indifferent to her, she was thorough and good but always came off really dry and lacked a bit of personality. it was nice though, to see a females that was at least more than long blonde hair and a nice rack actually talk and know something about golf. She was/is a decent player.

The entire "lynching" episode was blown way out of proportion....It was an attempt at humor - which is always sure to offend someone. One wrong word and if that word was replaced with "beat down" or "beat up" or something else then nobody would give it a second thought.

Word at the time was that Tiger was not offended by it.

When Tiger made his first mea culpa one-on-one interview after his unfortunate episode - It was with Kelly on TGC. He could have chosen anyone and she got the gig.

Maybe Fox will pick her up and she can anchor the US Open...

It was typical of our society today. No matter what someone says, someone else will find a way to take offense at it. No matter how it was intended.

I don't like her at all and I'm not fully sure as to why, so I use that as part of my reason. its easier to say that then I think at one point in her life she was a man.

so are you saying you didn't like her because she has a deeper voice and larger adams apple then you? haha, i could get that..

True - our society took it to a place where is was never intended to go.

I think her sense of humor might be dry in nature.

Completely agree. There's not a chance they fired her. Over 22 years some of the analysts had developed to the point where she took a back seat. They should have found her something. The problem with Kelly is this. Her niche was host, and now there's a lot of great hosts. If she had developed into instruction or a great field reporter she'd be there. Roger Maltby understands he's not a great host, but an ace field reporter. I always waited for Kelly to fight with Chamblee, never happened. When she tried to corner a golfer it failed, it was far too late in her career. She didn't speak her mind initially until 15 years in. The writing was on the wall. There are too many other great hosts. Gannon comes to mind.

Maybe they offered her a new slot and she said I already have one? My feeling is that she will end up in sports somewhere, after taking a respite to collect her thoughts and make some decisions.

It's ok.

Kelly was solid indeed but, the camera's at the Golf Channel are still pointed at Cara Banks!

....and the added British charm is such a plus.

I really don't want to pile on here, but I can't resist this one.Did you mistakenly choose the wrong Michael Douglas movie when choosing your name? Did you mean to pick Basic Instinct or Fatal Attraction? Sorry for that, it's all in fun, but I just had to go there...

There was something.............in everything about you
