LPGA WITB

I noticed that Inbee Park has a Lynx logo. Has she changed from XX10 clubs to Lynx???

Don't think she's changed from XXIO, but could be wrong.

Think she's just wearing Lynx apparel

Yeah, looks like she's still playing an XXIO X driver, irons, and Cleveland RTX 3 wedges.

I watch every single minute of LPGA coverage I can but I'll be the first to admit the LPGA is boring when it comes to equipment. It's almost like the LPGA reminds us to focus on the players more than the gear, which is good.

While the men switch shafts and clubs every single year and always play the sexiest stuff, there are tons of LPGA players with really ho-hum bags. Props to them honestly. Pretty sure Sei Young was using the SLDR driver right up until recently. Danielle is still out there rocking the 716 CBs.

I mean c'mon, you're telling me you want to check out bags that look like your average golf buddy, LOL?

Part of sneaking a peak into a pro's bag is seeing what new tech is out there.

The kind of guys who get on the internet to look at other players' bags are not the kind who are going to be attracted to a 24o hybrid with an Aldila NVS S-Flex shaft.

Well, when one has to pay for their own equipment, one pauses before buying the "latest and greatest". Only a handful of players are on staff.

I don't find it boring. They find what works and stick with it until something that's actually better comes along. Lydia got a ton of grief when she switched to PXG, but as you correctly note the male pros change clubs practically every season. Any male pro still playing a 2 year old driver? Even if it's the same manufacturer, it sure isn't the same club.

Danielle is now sponsored by Titleist, so she swapped her TM driver for a TSi3.

I feel like what you're saying is that LPGA players have a relationship with equipment that is more like ours. I'd agree. I think that's ultimately part of what makes the LPGA better.

The purpose of equipment is to help us play our best. But that doesn't mean people should visit WRX and discuss golf equipment every single day of every single week. That's just consumerism, right? To me, that's the kind of culture that's made golf worse over the last 15 years.

So, I like where the LPGA is at. While they may not make as much endorsement money, it results in a better and somehow more honest-feeling product. If some day the LPGA does become awash in money and all about big sponsorships, I think we'll look back longingly to these days when it felt like a smaller Tour.

Ah, the new tech that likely isn't really any better than the previous model. I'm super intrigued how a forged carbon steel Anser style putter head can possibly be better today than it was 20 years ago. Maybe Tiger can answer that.

But, if one really thought the latest driver was gonna get them an extra 10yds, and maybe 2 more fairways per round I can't help but to think they could cough up the cash for it. If it ain't broke why fix it.

Lexi was/is a great example with those vintage S2 forged irons she played for 9 years, not sure if she still is or not. I believe as of late last year she was playing older hybrids and 3 wood too. Very surprised Cobra never forced her to upgrade all those years.

LPGA pros are just that. Pros. Most need minimal forgiveness. As a result, I don’t know that new gear is that much better for them from the gear of a year or two ago.

I’m guessing they mostly use a quarter sized (or less) portion of the face whereas us amateurs use allot more of the face. Given that most aren’t getting paid to play their gear, why would they not just play with what they know works?

There are many PGA, LPGA and Champion Tour pros who play older model clubs....even one's with club endorsements.

It's an 80/20 rule...the golf equipment industry is really driven by the 20% who continually upgrade driving the 80% in sales.....I think these golfers are the ones who do their own research and demos/fittings on their own rather than looking much at WITB's of pros who swing completely different than them....if they do look at WITB's it's mainly out of curiosity.

I believe Lexi continues to play the S2 or S3 Forged....I think a couple of years ago....Cobra made some proto types for Lexi ( I think I saw a video about this at a PGA Merch Show)....I think she gamed them for a few rds and went back to the S2 or S3's.

I'm also surprised that Cobra never forced her to upgrade too...but I guess Cobra knows deep down inside....golfers never/rarely walk into a PGASS and say:

"Can anyone here please show me what irons Lexi is playing, please"

Exactly...the pros hit it near the sweet spot so often...they need not require the latest and greatest club tech.

In the drivers...most of the new tech is trying to make the sweet spot bigger across the face (more forgiveness) to assist the average golfer who hits the ball all over the face.

Slap the current model head cover on your woods, put product name on your bag / hat and the general masses think you are playing the latest greatest gear.

This was at the Diamond Resorts. Looks like S2 Forged given the black trim.

More recently. No idea. There doesn't appear to be a 'KING' logo on the back. The triangular pad on the back appears to be set towards the toe.

The second and third pics look a lot like Srixon ZU85. The black dot on the toe is visible in the third pic. What tournament are those from?
They’re definitely not new. You can see the wear on the shaft where it sits in the bag.

In addition to Jin Young playing an O-Works putter, it looks like Minjee is also putting with an O-Works (2-ball).

The O-Works line came out in 2017. Interesting that it's back in play.

Just checked my email, and I see one from GolfWRX, "The Latest". Let's see, they have a short article on Patrick Cantlay's WITB, and Collin Morikawa's WITB, even though he finished 2nd at the Memorial, but no Yuka Saso WITB.

'Guess a U.S. Women's Open winner doesn't merit a quick look in her bag. Pffttt.

@pga43 rarely flies to women events....mainly at PGA stops early in the week.

I met and chatted with him on Tues at the 2015 USO...nice guy and I asked him for a WRX poker chip.
