Putter Swingweight (Rory's is D1)

I'm surprised Morikawa's isn't a higher swing weight. Those heads with 10-gram weights are 345 so with 15-gram weights it would be 355. Then you would think the long neck gets it up to at least 360. Maybe not though, maybe his is totally custom.

I've literally never put my putters on a swingweight scale. I do know that I prefer Anser style heads made of carbon steel,  350 grams, 69* lie angle, 35" finished length, pistol style grip. If it meets those specs I'll tend to know within a couple rounds if it's worth keeping. I've got 4 putters now, 1 Byron, 1 Slighter, 1 Giannini, 1 Exotics by David Glod. They all meet the aforementioned criteria with the exception of the Byron which is closer to 335-340 gram headweight. 2 are plumber's necks, 2 are flow necks. The only real difference between them is offset and feel. I can't imagine what actually knowing their swingweight would ever do for me.

In my long-term battle with loss feel from blood pressure medication, I may have stumbled on a good solution. 35 inches standard loft and lie and  a swingweight  around C8. 

 

This is a great topic to keep going. It focused my thinking back to the specs I'd won tournaments with in my forties.

Stumbled on this thread, interesting topic. I am very swingweight focused on all of the other club’s in the bag but a number to reflect the feel in my putters is not something I have  focused on.  I have tried to dial in all of my preferred aspects that would make up a swingweight though so I bet they are similar.  I am now interested in comparing my putters and see what I am playing.

I'd think it has something to do with fast greens no?  I have an old Ping anser putter and on slow greens I have to forcibly hit the putt instead of rolling.  I'd imagine on a green rolling 12+ I'd want something a little lighter to be able to control speed better and not smash everything off the other side.

Rory's putter is not D1, someones calculations based on speculation are incorrect.  I have someone who asked him while he was on the practice green about that, he laughed and said don't think so.

Rory actually plays the below specs and has for some time. Trottie from Taylormade just posted these last week.

70/2.5/E1/34.1/8 EOG ...think he likes heavier to smooth out the stroke

Thanks for the updates. This thread is 3 years old and several of the players discussed have changed putters.

reboot.  the last page of this thread is a few months old... but i have recently started building most of my wands around d7-d9.  e0 feels good on distance control but shorter puts are wavy.  less than d5 i get a bit circular with my backswing.  my few mann putters i have added some weight to get the head around 360ish, and some tour lock 10-15g grip weights to stick it at d8.  seems to feel good to me - but obviously this is very subjective.  good luck.
