^I don't get this whole Patrick Reed bad guy thing.

Those things he did or supposedly did decades ago?

If that makes him a "bad guy" you're making golf look even more wussy than many people already consider it.

There are no bad boys/guys in golf.

The guy that doesn't fit the media's desire for a new grand slam champion? Yeah. But not a bad boy.

Probably the same ones saying a 6’ 200lb man is obese because they’re 5’7” 135”

Great masters! I hope the rest of the majors are as entertaining as this one. Nothing like a Sunday back 9 at Augusta though. Really happy for Patrick Reed. Great guy and a great champion. I am thrilled to see my man Rickie play so well down the stretch and that birdie on 18 was the stuff of legend. I have a feeling he will bust through at the open this year and finally get to wear the white dress.

The dude has a super complicated personal/family life and burned a lot of bridges in the past. That combined with being brash and a bit c0cky is the perfect recipe for a 'bad guy'.

If you were able to peal back the onion you'd find a "super complicated personal/family life" and difficulties in every single guy out there.

He may have done or said a few things more brash or cocky than the average PGA Tour player in the past. But that's only because the average Tour player is extremely tame.

He is married with kids, seems well liked by his peers, and appears to conduct himself generally like a gentleman.

Again, if this is golf's definition of a "bad guy" I guess we're in really good shape as a game as far as moral character goes.

You are right ^^^ That is why i don't understand why people get so judgmental about certain players.

As far as "bad guy". It's relative to golf and the narrative relating to him. He's obviously not a bad guy relative to real bad guys out in the world. This is a golf forum, so these things are discussed in relation to the golf world, mostly.

Yeah I get that, I just don't see how he's a bad guy even in the golf context. Why is Rickie waiting there to give him a hug if he's a bad guy? Who among his peers has actually said that he's a bad guy?

Someone like Rory Sabbatini would be more understandable, if he were relevant today. Since I think there were a number of guys who definitely didn't like him.

It's all media narrative, conjecture, rumor. I haven't heard one other person on tour say anything bad about him.

Congrats to Reed (although he will never read this, so I don't know why I bother congratulating him), shame Rory didn't play great and that none of my bets paid off!

all this GOAT talk got me thinking..

If # of majors won will be the criteria it's Jack..

if not it's Tiger..

PS..Tiger's 142 straight cuts made and 4 straight professional majors won--ie--Tiger Slam--will never be broken...or tied.

Yeah thats a fair point, especially regarding tameness. By the Matt Kuchar standard i'm pretty sure half the population would be a bad guy. :D

Also funny you should mention Sabattini given that he HAS actually contended and recently. Its interesting how even then he gets virtually no airtime. I think the networks must have focused grouped and found out how many people literally leave the room when his face shows up. :D

At the end of the day, the best player over four rounds won. I'm not a fan of Reed, but congrats to him as every mistake he made he rectified with a birdie not long after and he deserved to win. I was cheering Spieth on, but the mistakes on Friday cost him big time. Never been a fan of Rory, despite being British, but it was obvious after he missed the chance to go tied for the lead on 2 that he was thinking about it too much and trying to force it.

Going into the final round there was only really Rory in touching distance unless Reed collapsed and he didn't. Kudos to Reed for not crumbling under the pressure.

I was happy that Reed won. I would have been happier, if it had been Fowler or McIlroy, but Reed is alright for me.

As a European, I have always liked the way he conducted himself in the Ryder Cup, because it was always fun. In the last Cup, when he had this duel with Rory, he always silenced the morons in the crowd, when things got out of hand, and at Gleneagles his "Shshsh" was also just like the usual needling that goes on with my usual golfing buddies. It also seemed like Rory had really nice things to say to him on 18, so that shows what a relationship they really have.

I was the happiest yesterday, when Rickie holed his birdie putt on 18, because that meant that Spieth couldn't win. He really gets on my nerves, like when he was whining about the "stupid last branch" which his ball caught on the drive at 18. If it hadn't caught that branch, it would have gone deep into that jungle on the left.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

By the 15th hole, Rory McIlroy had missed 7 putts of inside 10 feet. Brutal.

I noticed that despite Rory's good putting form and Spieth's bad putting form, when the pressure came on, they reverted to type. Spieth did miss a makable one on the last, but made more than his fair share before that, including at 16.

When Rory starts missing putts on the high side, you know he is toast. That's always a sign that he is forcing things on the greens, and that is when he doesn't get it done.

I see a gap. There definitely is a gap.

Both missed when it mattered most.

Reed just played better than the rest and had the luck when he needed it along with some great pressure putting.

Rory's poor play all week eventually caught up with him but pretty decent finish considering how much he was actually struggling.

Tiger is the GOAT!

• 79 PGA Tour wins, second all-time to Sam Snead

• 14 major championships, second all-time to Jack Nicklaus

• Only player ever to win four consecutive majors

• Lowest scoring average in PGA Tour history

• Scoring average of 67.79 in 2000 the lowest single-season average in Tour history

• PGA Tour Player of the Year a record 10 times

You do realize you just made my point with he first two bullet points right. Notice they both say second? Ask Tiger if he is ok with that. I think you know what the answer would be.

2 two different golfers... Tiger has more wins than jack and more majors than Snead.

So tiger having 6 more regular tour wins makes him better than Jack but Jack having 4 more majors than tiger doesn’t make him better than tiger? Interesting double standards. I’ll enjoy watching you twist yourself into a pretzel explaining that. You constantly posting” GOAT “doesn’t make it so unfortunately.

I know it was rough week for you after you predicted tiger would win by 8 but a little common sense would be nice. You missed a great tourney by the way.

Oh you put an exclamation mark after goat? Game set match I guess.

Golf is a marathon not a sprint.no shame in being #2 all time for tiger. Tiger did it for 10-11 years jack did it for 18-19 years. You can say tiger was slightly better in his 20s but Jack was way better in his 30s. Not close really. Don’t even get started on his 40s.

Not only does he have more majors but he has twice the amount of top 10s in majors than anyone else in history. Has more top 3s in majors than tiger has top 10s in majors. Think about that for a second. His majors record / results in the 70s were borderline video game #s that weren’t possible in real life.

For some perspective, jack from his 1970 open championship win on won 4 of the next 9 majors finished second in 3 others and 5th and 6th place in the other 2. Everything tiger did jack did just better and with more regularity in the majors. Can’t avoid that or overlook it. Tiger is what if, jack just is.

7 of 18 major wins were come from behind. Tiger, none of his 14 were. He’s close for sure but not there.

I'm kind of disappointed at that, was a bit of a whirlwind day, and I can't complain because Patrick Reed definitely deserved to win the Green Jacket.

But Rory's performance was a complete and utter letdown. It wasn't a massive collapse but Reed shot -1 and won. Fowler shot -5, Spieth shot -8, Rahm shot -3, Watson shot -2. The course was there for the taking. If he's even 2 under for the day, let's say, heading to 15, you never know. It was the manner of his loss that really stings.

Totally agree about Rory. The way he played was a massive let down and he looked a bit lost.

I think that Reed gets the jacket today and has a fairly easy time of it. Maybe it is the city of Augusta's air that is making the tenacious Reed step up this

week. Hope Justine his wife (ex caddie barely big enough to pick up a staff bag let alone carry it all week for her man) jumps for joy in the end. Those were long days for the couple when she was on the bag I would imagine. So cool though. Patrick took a page from the Stricker manual on how to get the Mrs. involved in your workday. Now it is her brother in that position I believe.

Patrick+Reed+Justine+Reed+Wyndham+Championship+pNKz0sTQP_xl.jpg

.....and at almost 24hrs later than my post of Sunday morning.

Not thinking that was a fairly easy win (lol), but Reed got it done in the end. Fantastic weekend of play by the man from San Antonio.

Reed has all the shots. Reed is a clutch putter. Reed is a tenacious competitor. Reed has the mental game down pat. Reed has a green jacket. This won't be his only major folks.

Fabulous Masters this year. Congrats Patrick Reed.

I'm a Euro and I like Reed. I have even bet on him to win The Masters in other years, but disappointingly I didn't have a bet at all this year. This time around he produced what I saw at the Ryder Cup and his self-believe when he proclaimed 'Top 5 Status'. ( I didn't see that as a Brag, just his version of the truth!).

He might, arguably, not be as physically talented as Rory, but Reed has got him mentally and psychologically all day long.

Just a few comments:

I guess the "Brad Faxon" lesson didn't stick.

The Fred Couples piece was good.

Finau's ankle was indeed hype.

Rickie is happy being Rickie.

Phil ????

Tiger - not quite ready for a major.

Stenson and DJ need to refine their games to win in Augusta

Rahm - some advice: settle down stallion

Verne Lundquist needs to go.

Reed stuck with his game plan and got it done.

This week, the PGA Tour is at TPC San Antonio on the Oaks Course for the Valero Texas Open. GolfWRX was on-site Tuesday to catch a glimpse into the bags of some of the world’s top golfers.

The field of 144 is getting ready to battle starting Thursday for the $7.7 million purse, with $1.386 million going to the winner. The tournament is also the last event where players can qualify for The Masters, just like Canadian Corey Conners did last year.
