ANGC Course Changes ? Updated for 2021 Masters

Narrow fairways, allow 1st cut to creep in more throughout the course...

Continue to keep greens firm and fast...

Add 4 fairway bunkers on right side of 13, mirroring the bunkers behind the green (make it narrow as hell)...

Take #10 fairway bunker and place it in 15's fairway...

Keep all concession prices as are...

I think raggedy is not the right word

I want more contouring and not perfect running long lines 2 feet from the greens edge

I think some reaction to one of my posts was about ragged edges.

I want flowing lines like the bunker on ten, not Sand Hills bunkers.

I posted an old picture but only to show shape, not agronomy

They will never leave that course alone, ever. That’s what happens when you have enough money to be your own sovereign country. Just call it Golf’s Vatican. BB

Its the greatest venue $ wise for food. not one thing is over priced.you can eat and drink like a pig for 20$ per day. Probably the cheapest major sporting event in the world.Augusta treats its patrons great during the tourney foodwise, no gouging.getting in is another story!

Yea, when it's all said and done, nobody does it as well as the powers that be at Augusta. In every aspect. And's not really even close.

Well the food and drinks are cheap but most visitors drop boatloads in the Merch tents

Lengthen 5,12 ,13 , 15 and 16 and that will make the course as tough as you could want it .

12 needs nothing as it is - will always be a great hole. Shows that distance isn't everything

But with the greater distance that the ball and clubs go now . If you lengthen it 30 yards that would make it equal to the original test .

Lengthening 12 would make it easier for them. They would be hitting more club and be able to keep it below the tree line easier. Now hitting 8iron -wedge they have to gauge the wind more.

Irons the pros play aren’t going any further now than they did 30 years ago.

Walter: Tell me Bobby, why do you play this game?
Bobby: I play because I love it.
Walter: Well I play for the money. I have to win. That is why every time we face each other I will always beat you.

No, the skill to hit it to a small green is the same now as 30 years ago. It's the same test, just the number on the bottom of the club is different.

Are you sure though? Like someone said, 16 is a lot of times, an easy 2 or a hard 3. I think the speed of the greens have changed so much that it negates your concern, personally.

I'm not sure I would agree with changing either par 3 on the back. I can agree with 13(lengthen), 15(I'm liking the suggestion to make long a more treacherous proposition). I want them to bring the pond back into play on 11, as well. That is one hole that has been disappointing since renovations.

This makes a lot of sense. Lowering the ball flight would change the dynamics dramatically. My other question would be, how much faster are the greens compared to then? I know they used to be Bermuda I believe, and so you had to give a good rap to make it travel. Now a butterfly hovering over top can send it 20 feet.

One more vote for getting rid of the rough.

there is no rough at Augusta, just "second cut". you risk getting yourself stalin'ized by saying rough. but, i agree, widen the course, get rid of some trees, and take it back to its roots. it will do just fine.

I was the one who said lengthening 16 would be a mistake as well as making long on 15 more penalizing would be great but I forgot about 11. I totally agree that 11 used to be a swing hole but now it seems like nobody ever hits it in the water anymore. That could be a really simple change that could have huge implications. The guys who bail out right on their second used to have an impossible third shot but it just doesn't seem so bad anymore.

There are so many clutch situations that happen on 16 as it sits now so I'm not sure why you would want to change it. 12 is the same way. I can't think of a nine that has two better par 3's in the world so just leave them alone.

Y'all do realize that number 11 is year in and year out one of the three toughest holes every year at ANGC if not the toughest, just because a ball isn't going in the water isn't a sign it's easy or playing easier.

It's the hardest or second hardest usually but the guys at the top of their game don't nearly seem as scared of it as they once did. This year it looks like the last 4 groups played it 1 over with Reed being the only one to bogey it which didn't affect the outcome.

I hear you that it's a really hard hole but it just doesn't seem to be as big of a swing hole as it used to be. That could just be my perception too.

They should do like the Old Course at St Andrews and put up a hotel that you need to carry over on your tee shot. That's immediate character right there and a homage. Call it The Buttler's Inn.

The Old Course is a very special place. It is sacrilege to to suggest otherwise.

Unseen, in the background, Fate was quietly slipping the lead into the boxing-glove.  P.G. Wodehouse
