I'm back with VIP this year. I haven't approached spending what annual dues would cost me at a course yet.

Ya I was thinking the same. Vip is already paid and I get variety. Been with vip for six years and haven't had a bad experience. Was looking at option but still seems the best one. Excited to see what new courses Rob will get.

Still got time to get a refund for a few more months I think. Variety is nice(I renewed VIPGolf as well), but having a place to go hit a bucket, play 5 holes and go home is looking quite appealing. Keep an eye on Kijiji, and you'll start seeing ads for people looking for someone to play off their membership.

I know last year, someone offered me their Elbow Springs membership if I paid the transfer fee, but I didn't know if I wanted to commit to Elbow or not. Depending of if my buddy and his dad remain at Elbow, I might look at playing there full time.

Best place to get fitted for irons in Edmonton?

Go see TJ at Deboer's, and ask them to reserve the FlightScope....it will at least give you a good baseline to then try their recommendation(s) outdoors and test on course.

I'll have to go see him when in town next, thanks.

Is Priddis having a special package this year? Good luck on sale.

They had a special on during September. I hadn't seen the property before going down for the Cdn Open, but it is really nice.

It's a buyer's market right now, so will make it tougher to sell for what it's worth, but I'm optimistic.

Cheers.

If you are in the north end of the city check out delacour. Great course, played on the restricted membership (mon-fri) the last 2 years for $1700. Not going back this yet though due to a schedule change at work. Will be playing the VIP this year. We will need to get a golfWRX members get together to play

Great greens out in Delacour. If the winds get up, that track can be quite punishing.

I ended up cancelling my VIP Golf membership this year, and got a discounted membership at Elbow(price was right, and it's close to home).

There are no 'new' courses in yyc it appears. Prices do not appear to have changed ether. They were aggressive in moving into BC. Still a lot of great courses at ok prices. YYC is stupid for what they think they can charge.

There will be adjustments in the coming years as to what the courses are going to be able to charge and how many members they can get. The oil boom is over and now that things may be getting on track, they still believe that people want to pay that amount... rant over

I agree, playing golf in the City is ridiculous when you can drive 20 min out of town and save at least $20 on a tee time.

I'm having a bit of a hard time justifying even buying the VIP membership, here's my thoughts...

To get your money's worth, you need to save at least $25 each time you play (assuming you are going to play once a week (approx 20 weeks))

This is on top of playing men's night every week, where VIP doesn't give you any discount.

Twilight tee times in and around the city are very affordable and VIP doesn't get you any advantage here either.

So to make it work, you need to play during prime hours, when golf is most expensive.

What am I missing? I just don't see the value here...

Value for me is access to a couple courses I wouldn't have access too.

You also get the twilight rates a bit earlier than the general public.

I have a group of 6 guys that all have membership and we usually take advantage of a couple of the deals on the holiday Mondays that work out to be a pretty good deal.

Haven't missed the end of year round at Banff Springs in a few years. That's always super fun.

Some of the courses have gotten a bit more expensive like D'Arcy Ranch, but some are still super cheap like Speargrass.

The small break you get on pricing makes it a little bit easier to stomach the rates charged in Calgary.

Hey all, recently moved to YYC, would love to meet some members and get a round in this summer.

when do golf ranges and courses usually open around here?

PS: what are the top courses around here? also anyone have insight on best club to join (maybe not this year, but starting next year for sure)?

thanks

Depends on the year. I played Heritage Pointe in late March last year.

The outdoor range at the Golf Canada center is open year round with heated stalls.

I don't expect much to be open before early April based on the winter we had. TPC Fox Hollow is always the first course to open.

Heritage Pointe isn't opening till April 22nd this year no matter what, I don't agree with that but that's all I'll say. I use Lyle at simply golf for most of my club work. As far as what club to join I think it depends on where you live and your budget obviously, driving is a big part of Calgary but there are some spots that aren't ideal from certain spots in the city.

Blue Devil opens earliest usually of the nicer courses, I find the holes somewhat repetitive but it isn't bad
