Had a function at valley Ridge today and hit a bucket. Things are really greening up quickly in this nice weather, its starting to look really nice.

Just needs some leaves on the trees.

I played at Cottonwood yesterday, first time I've played there and it was awesome! The greens were in remarkable shape for this time of the year. Highly recommend if you get the opportunity.

I always enjoy Cwood, especially when the greens are good

Banff Springs is impossible to book with VIP. Or no slots are availa me at all.

Email VIP. They should be able to help.

Heading from Edmonton to Banff for a conference at the end of the week. Any suggestions aside from the Springs (not open til Friday)? Don't necessarily want to go top-dollar either, owing to early season conditions of both the courses and my game.

You could play: Sundre or Innisfail on the drive down, both are awesome. Or you could play in Canmore: Stewart Creek, Silvertip, or the Canmore course right in town. Sundre is one of my favorites, you could spin through there on your way down.

I second the suggestion for Sundre and especially Canmore Golf Club in town. Nearly half the price of the others in the area and all the same mountain views.

Now wouldn't it be wonderful if these new rule changes get approved!

Z-z

Golf Canada Proposed Changes to Golf Rules in 2017 for Senior Golfers Aged 60+;

Rule 1.a.5 – A ball sliced or hooked into the Rough shall be lifted and placed on the Fairway at a point equal to the distance it carried or rolled into the Rough with no penalty. The senior player should not be penalized for tall grass which ground keepers failed to mow.

Rule 2.d.6 (B) A ball hitting a tree shall be deemed NOT to have hit the tree. This is simply bad luck and luck has no place in a scientific game. The senior player must estimate the distance the ball would have traveled if it had not hit the tree, and play the ball from there.

Rule 3.B.3(G) – There shall be no such thing as a lost ball. The missing ball is on or near the course and will eventually be found and pocketed by someone else, thereby making it a stolen ball. The senior player is not to compound the felony by charging himself with a penalty.

Rule 4.c.7(h) – If a putt passes over a hole without dropping, it is deemed to have dropped. The Law of Gravity supersedes the Rules of Golf.

Rule 5. – Putts that stop close enough to the cup that they could be blown in, may be blown in. This does not apply to balls more than three inches from the Hole. No one wants to make a mockery of the game.

Rule 6.a.9(k) – There is no penalty for so-called “out of bounds.” If penny-pinching golf course owners bought sufficient land, this would not occur. The senior player deserves an apology, not a penalty.

Rule 7.G.15(z) – There is no penalty for a ball in a water hazard, as golf balls should float. Senior players should not be penalized for any shortcomings of the manufacturers.

Rule 8.k.9(S) – Advertisements claim that golf scores can be improved by purchasing new golf equipment. Since this is financially impractical for many senior players, one-half stroke per hole may be subtracted for using old equipment.

Please advise all your senior friends of these important rule changes and keep multiple copies in your golf bag. Those not following the rules need to be provided a copy. Golf is a game of integrity.

Played Delacour on Friday and Valley Ridge on Sunday.

Delcacour's greens are amazing right now, very smooth and decently fast. The mosquitoes were just starting to show their ugly mugs, but they weren't much of a distraction.

Valley Ridge was only ok. The fairways are thin and hard especially on the front. Bunkers have way too much sand in them and are poorly maintained. Greens smooth but very very slow. If it wasn't for the VIP rate, I doubt I'd ever play that place. Feel bad for the people that play full rack rate on the weekend. So many better options that offer much better value.

For the YEG folks around here, anyone have any conditions to report?

Only two I have are Sturgeon, which I played Saturday - it was in good shape overall but the greens were still a bit furry and slow, and they had 2 temp greens on 10 & 18 due to reno's. Played Riverside Monday and it was in great shape, greens were firm and true but again just slow, but I guess that's to be expected this time of year...hopefully this rain gets out quickly and we can get back to the nice weather ASAP!

These are the ones i played over last couple weeks, played a few others before but they all probably improved quite a bit since. Might go out to goose this weekend anyone know what the conditions are like there?

Coal Creeks is in great condition, greens excellent for early in the season and will be phenomenal in a couple weeks.

Leduc most the course was in pretty good shape, but the greens were pretty poor.

Stony plain greens are terrible

Legends was in decent shape, course is really good, greens were so so but definitely in line with normal early season greens.

Sandpiper was decent for early season.

Good point about VR, I get the same feeling about Lynx Ridge as well; I mean they're nice courses but not good value for the weekend warrior.

Didn't get my revenge... Made 3 birdies on the back for a 39 and left one right on the edge on 18.

We teed off at 10am and didn't finish until 2:45. Not sure why it takes so long to play that place on the weekends. We were all over the group in front.

With the talks in here about value for the weekend warrior, I'm curious.. Where do you guys see good value for us plebes who have to pay Rack Rate on weekends as our only available golfing time?

There's a few courses that have pretty reasonable twilight or afternoon times, but aside from that. Where does one play at 10AM on a Saturday and still get decent value?
